My daughter's 12 yo cat is facing possible amputation. I assume those are expensive?

I have no idea about the cost of a prosthetic, but I had a cat years ago that got run over at 6 months old and had to have one of his legs amputated. The vet was very blasé telling us that he cut the legs off of big cats all the time and "they got along fine and really didn't need all four." Maybe he was just trying to calm down two hysterical pet parents, but he was right. Our cat lived another 17 years and didn't seem to be negatively impacted by the loss of the leg at all, even when he was an old man. He got around just fine, inside and out. We tried to make him an indoor cat, but he learned to jump up on the doorknob, hook his paws and swing back and forth until the lock snapped open, he'd put a paw in the door and be gone in a flash. So, even if your daughter can't afford the device, her cat will most likely heal quickly and adjust to the new reality. Pets are resilient.

She ALWAYS sleeps or sits in weird positions. I've never seen a kitten/cat that does the stuff she does. Lol. For example right now she is currently under her "mattress" in her bed after she piled all her toys on it. I love her, but she is a nut! 🤪

Yes, 3 cats ! I'm sorry for the allergy problem ... It's also good to know that whole male cats produce more FelD 1 than neutered females and males. Having a cat when you are allergic also means accepting having to vacuum very often, as well as giving your cat regular baths to eliminate the protein where it is secreted. However, there are 8 breeds of cats with low allergies: The Siberian, the Cornish Rex, the Balinese, the Korat, the Savannah, the Sphynx, the Russian Blue, the Bengal.

**please know she has plenty of room to run, and even though she has the collar, she learned very quickly to stay away from the geofence, so it doesn’t bother her. We made sure she can still get to her favorite places where it’s safe. She will bust the wooden fence and run in the fields around our little country neighborhood. Which wouldn’t be so bad if coyotes and other dogs/animals weren’t running around, too. Her chihuahua-mix brother ended up nearly dying after an attack when they got out. He made a full recovery, but to keep them safe she wears the collar just in case. She’s a larger dog, too and we don’t want someone feeling threatened by her running around after breaking the fence**

How old is she ? I've read that older cats have been known to stare blankly for an hour or more, at,for example, walls, a chair, washing machine or stare intently at .... thin air...... suggestive of onset of feline dementia, or perhaps, Alzhiemers
