Some dogs like to chase or bark at the mailman, but for the dogs on this mail carrier’s route a new delivery meant a special treat. Recently a Twitter user shared that her dad would always carry special gifts for the four-legged customers on his route. He was not only appreciated by his canine friends but by their owners too. One day during his route, however, he received a heart-wrenching note from one of his regulars with some sad news, their dog had passed away. While normally this would be cause for tears, the former dog owners decided to pay it forward in honor of their pet and the story is truly wholesome.

The note read: “Gretchen passed away yesterday. She asked me to ask you if you would share her treats that she never got to finish with the other dogs on your route. She always enjoyed seeing you come to the door and was always happy to get a snack from you. Thank you, The Cimino Family.”

I had a cat who loved the mailman. Not really food-motivated, but anything for scritches!

I was a mail man for a year and a half. Worst one ever. But I took care of the dogs. One Husky chained to a porch never, ever had water. I filled his bowl every day. And I cleaned his nasty ears with my fingers. And wiped 'em off on the mail. (I said I was the worst.) Every dog that didn't charge at me got petted. The ones that did charge me never were harmed. Not once. I put the bag between us, finger on the (worthless, I've heard) spray and locked eyes and talked as I backed away safely. Honestly did not give a tinker's damn about the job, though.

Why is it that some people get dogs only to neglect and mistreat them? I’ve never understood that. Well done you for looking out for these poor pups.
