In the heart of Santa Monica, a white dog named Buckley found himself tied to a pole, waiting for someone to save him amidst bustling streets. The dog’s story sparked a chain of events that led him from loneliness to hope. Through the dedication of Love Leo Rescue, Buckley’s journey turned out to be a positive experience, however, that is not always the case for most abandoned animals on the streets.

Amidst the challenges of finding him a forever home and tackling broader issues of animal welfare, Buckley’s tale serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of empathy and responsible pet ownership when it comes to having pets.

Bored Panda spoke to Love Leo Rescue about Buckley’s initial plight. They shared, “When we first laid eyes on Buckley tied to that post, it was a heartbreaking sight. He seemed so alone, yet there was this glimmer of hope in his eyes. Our friend who works closely with rescues saw Buckley while passing by. She immediately reached out to us, concerned about his well-being.”

Concerned about Buckley’s welfare, a local rescue friend reached out to Love Leo Rescue, seeking help. “Could we find a spot for him? We said absolutely yes,” they recalled

Living among the homeless, Buckley endured harsh conditions. “He was living with homeless people… tied up for long periods of time on the street,” shared the rescuers

They also described the grim conditions Buckley faced. “Living among the homeless, Buckley faced harsh conditions. He didn’t have proper food or water, and he was tied up in a way that restricted his movements.”

Despite his hardships, Buckley remained remarkably gentle. “He was a sweetheart from day one… He didn’t know how to live indoors,” they noted

When Bored Panda asked Love Leo Rescue about Buckley’s demeanor during the rescue. They shared, “Despite everything he’d been through, Buckley remained remarkably gentle. He wagged his tail timidly when we approached, as if he was relieved to see us.”

The rescuers described Buckley’s transformation from a dirty, neglected state to one of cleanliness and comfort. “He was very dirty and needed two baths to get the dirt off him”

*In our conversation with Love Leo Rescue, they also discussed Buckley’s transformation with us. “After two baths, it was like watching a whole new dog emerge. He went from being dirty and unkempt to sparkling clean, and you could see the relief in his eyes.”

With love and care, Buckley eventually found a new family. “Today he lives happily with a new family… He would love to be with an active family and another dog he can play with”

We also inquired about the process of finding Buckley a forever home to which Love Leo Rescue kindly explained to us, “We were very selective in finding Buckley’s forever home. We wanted to ensure he went to a family that understood his needs and could provide him with the love and care he deserves.”

Love Leo Rescue, founded in 2015, focuses on providing aid to animals in need. “We focus on dogs that need some extra help”

We were also curious to epxlore the inspiration behind starting Love Leo Rescue. They shared, “We saw a gap in the rescue community for animals with special needs. We wanted to give these animals a chance at life, no matter what challenges they faced.”

Fosters play a crucial role in Love Leo Rescue’s mission. “Fosters are truly the bridge between homeless and forever home,” the rescuers emphasized

Continuing on the interview with the organization, they emphasized the importance of fostering in their efforts. “Fostering gives animals like Buckley a chance to thrive in a home environment while they wait for their forever families. It’s a crucial part of our mission.”

Reflecting on the broader issue of animal abandonment, the rescuers said, “This has been a crisis for many decades now… so many others do not see pets as part of the family

Bored Panda also delved into the issue of animal abandonment with Love Leo Rescue. They told us, “It’s a combination of factors, but ultimately, it comes down to education and awareness. We need to teach people about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering.”

The rescuers also stressed the importance of spaying and neutering. “Until the city and county provide free spay neuter services AND enforce the Spay Neuter laws, this will never end

“Enforcing spay and neuter laws is essential to controlling the stray animal population. It’s a proactive approach that can prevent countless animals from ending up on the streets.”

Hey there, Pandas! My name is Diana (though some prefer to refer to me as Diane, Deanna, and even Liana sometimes), and I am a Community Post Moderator Lead for Bored Panda. As my position title states, I am one of the people (employed Pandas for bamboo) over here who work with the community side of things on this website to ensure all is well, and while at that, I also help various creators and artists get recognition for the incredible work they do by connecting them to a large worldwide audience. Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).

Animal cruelty is always a step to human cruelty. Poor doggo, happy that he found a new home.

I'm confused - he was abandoned, or he was owned by someone who was homeless and this "rescue" stole him from his homeless owner?

Well it says he was tied there for several days. No matter if he was "owned" by somebody or not, he was rescued.
