BREAKING: Dog Meat Market Responsible For 33% Supply In South Korea Is Being Shut Down

Animal lovers around the world have a reason to celebrate as one of the biggest dog meat markets in South Korea is about to shut down . “Starting off with the removal of slaughtering facilities and cages in the market, we will ultimately stop the dog meat trade in Moran Market,” Seongnam city official Kang Won-gu told The Korea Herald. The market has seen 80,000 dogs sold either dead or alive each year and has been responsible for supplying one-third of the dog meat consumed in South Korea.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung said, “Seongnam City will take the initiative to transform South Korea’s image since ‘the greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.’”

Jang In-young, a spokesperson of the The Korean Animal Welfare Association, commented: “Seongnam city took a big step toward changing the dog meat industry here… But we will have to constantly monitor dog meat shops in the market (to see) if they really stop slaughtering dogs and change their business.”

Moran Market was infamous around the world among animal right activists for their brutal dog killing methods, such as electrocution, hanging, or beating canines until dead.

Why is it okay to kill thousands of pigs, chickens and cows for food, but not dogs? You're only an animal lover when you love all animals.

I agree, and I'd support the end to all meat markets. But in this instance it's being shut down due to the cruel form of execution.

They torture the dogs because they're sick f***s that get off on it. The b******t about making the meat tender is an excuse to conceal their loathsome sadism.

There's a downside to this: Those who normally eat dog meat will now begin to consume more beef, which will drive up the cost of beef all over the world.

Slaughtering dogs is disgusting and sick. The only meat I occasionally eat is free-range.

you all stand up for animal cruelty yet you all go to KFC, Burger King, Mc Donalds etc...You can love animals and feel sorry for their conditions, but we are omnivores so accept that and get over with it. Meat market can not come to an end. And please understand that people prefer eating different kinds of meat. Do not try to change the mother nature.

This is not problem of meat eating but how this meat was treated when it was still alive creature. And as you said we are omnivores and majority of the people will eat meat but that does not allows us to kill ANY animals in cruel and barbaric way.

I don't think this should even be a concern to any of us in America. They sometimes eat dog. Who cares. Should India try to shut down the cattle industry?
