Dog Spends A WEEK Guarding Her Trapped Best Friend Until Help Arrives

Tillie the golden retriever and Phoebe the basset hound didn’t return from a walk on Vashon Island, Washington, in early September. Their owner contacted Vashon Island Pet Protectors who, after five days, posted a lost dog notice to their Facebook. A stranger soon reported that Tillie had been seen on their property seemingly trying to draw human attention, so the VIPP volunteers set out to investigate.

“When I got there and looked down, Tillie saw me but didn’t come running up,” a volunteer told The Dodo. “She just stayed near the edge of this cistern, pressed with her head as close as she could get. Had she run up, we might have never realized that Phoebe was down there. She just stayed put, making it so clear that I had to come to her so I would see her friend.”

The dogs were both in good health, and had avoided dehydration by drinking rainwater.

“We had been out looking for about a week when we heard from a farmer here who noticed a reddish dog on his property”

They posted a missing-dog notice online

There is a beast with heart of cold stone that dashes like lightning, shreds flesh from bone. // Bewitched by this beast, I fell to my knees. My mouth babbled madness and mumbled soft pleas. // I stared down the ravenous, gnashing dark maw of a cute cuddly kitten with yarn in its paw

The likely reason the photos don't match is that the owners did not have any current photos of the dogs to use in the missing dogs notice and so they used photos of similar-looking dogs that they found online. I'm a lost pet consultant and this is what we advise pet owners to do when they don't have any good photos of their pets.

The dogs on the 'missing dogs notice' are different compared to other photos??

DOES ANYBODY BOTHER TO READ??? Thank you, Ashley, for taking the time to explain the reason why the photos don't "match". This is a happy ending to what was probably a very trying week for the owners. Isn't that what's really important here?!

Like the other people said, they most likely had other dogs stand in for the pictures in the news story. That's common.

Of course they would use generic pics if they didn't have any of their own dogs. The whole world is not out to scam you, Catherine and everyone else that couldn't figure this one out. Man, the Negative Nellies are out in full force today aren't they?

This was on the evening news with Lester Holt so it isn't staged.

The dogs on the notice are different, because the owner didn't have good, recent photos of the dogs, so they used photos that are similar. The pet finder service I use for my pets maintains a library of photos, so if you don't have a great picture, you can use one that looks similar to your pet. Not everyone takes pictures of their pets on a regular basis.

So, the farmer saw a dog on its property and recognized that it tried to draw human attention but didn't go near it to check what was up with it until he saw the advertisement about the lost dogs (and saw a good opportunity to play pseudo hero) ? Egoistic a*****e.

90´s : if a dog is calling you just go with them, if they call it is for some reason... or people really think that now dogs are also terrorists? and 5 days? only 5 days later they were missing they put a notice of missing dogs?

It looks to me like the owners didn't have any good recent photos; the differences all seem to be the canine version of "going gray". Maybe this will make some non-shutterbug pet owners realize photos can be important.

I take it back: it's not just age: the basset lacks the missing-poster's blaze, and the retriever has one. They didn't have *any* photos? That's sad.

The hound also would have certainly hurt herself had she fallen in there. Though I'm hard pressed to see that's possible for a basset hound to get up and over in the first place. Hmmmm .... I don't like being a pessimist, but this just doesn't add up ... They're both beautiful animals however.

Ok, maybe she could have jumped over that, it looks higher on end but maybe not so.

They may not have had photo's, so used online photos they found, cuz the first photo is certainly a professional quality photo. Ok, that's realistic. But, my question is then, why were the dogs walking themselves??? That doesn't make any sense.

Dogs do not match photos. This is staged. Lets just throw a boy named timmy down a well now, might as well. Creeps.
