I Take My Wolfdog On Epic Adventures Because I Hate To See Dogs Locked Away
I’m often surprised by how much joy animals can bring into our lives. Even more, the joy that comes from healthy relationships with them is really amazing. It seems hard to describe so I typically don’t try.
Loki’s Instagram is really the product of that hard-to-describe emotion. Additionally, I believe dogs aren’t meant to live out their lives in a backyard or inside a house. I hate to see that. I hope we are inspiring people to get out, explore our world, and make memories with their pups.

I wish you would change the title of this. That's not a wolfdog and nobody should ever be encouraged to own a wolfdog. It's bad for the actual wolf population and they are typically extremely hard to raise because part of them is wild. That is a beautiful dog though
The sad part of this article would be all the negative comments. He's nt encouraging people to get wolf dogs, he's encouraging people to take their dogs out. Don't keep them locked up.. It just so happens that he has a wolf dog.. There's always going to be people who have bs to say. Loki seems happy, keep up the great work!
Load More Replies...This is an Alaskan Malamute. Also, real wolf hybrids are NOT domestic dogs and will not act like such. They shouldn't be owned as a pet and I seriously hope more people understand this.
I agree 100%. People should not be mislead in thinking wolf dogs are safe pets.
Load More Replies...This is amazing!! I feel the same way, and take my husky and malamute on SO many adventures. Adventures I probably wouldn't have gone on, if it wasn't for them. Dogs rock!!
Absolutely wonderful, but also important to remember the needs of breeds - not all dogs would love these sorts of activities! I've got two whippets who enjoy a mad half hour in a field chasing bunnies, but after that they want to go home and sleep on the sofa.
Agreed. My dog hates extreme temperatures. He dislikes snow. He dislikes heat. After a half hour at the dog park he's asking to go home. He'd rather go to his friend Lucy's house where they can be crazy together in the basement. He loves couches and pillows and blankets and will steal them. If I took him out to do stuff like this he would cry and refuse. (There have literally been times where I've wanted to take him out to play in the snow and he laid down and cried until I took him in.) He's a (standard) schnauzer mutt.
Load More Replies...He is one happy pup in all that snow!! Beautiful!!! I totally agree with you about not keeping them cooped up in a backyard or house. And that is why I don't have a dog at this time.....one day!
Loki is not a wolfdog, and I think it's important for people to understand that. Calling a dog like him a "wolfdog" gives people the wrong impression about how REAL wolfdogs look and act. Folks look at an article such as this and think "Oh, well if that's what a wolfdog is, then I want one, too!" and so they do one of two things: They either get another misrepresented husky/malamute mix and continue the cycle of misinformation - or, they end up with a real wolfdog, and, expecting that animal to act just like a domestic dog, find themselves sorely unprepared to provide said animal with the proper care, containment, and +R training that it actually requires. Wolfdogs, even low-content ones, are a far cry from any domestic dog. They are not given the same legal protections, are much harder to socialize, and often exhibit escape artist tendencies and separation anxiety. For more information on this topic, please look up "wolfdog misrepresentation" and "wolfdog phenotyping".
I mostly agree, but if you really know any hybrids and phenotyping, then you have to admit that you can't tell a wolf hybrid by pics alone
Load More Replies...Not a wolf-dog. Just a malamute. Still gorgeous. Misrepresenting an animal as having wolf in it is dangerous to actual wolves/wolf-dogs and the humans who think they make good pets. I work with them. They do not.
Who cares if it's a chihuahua or a wolf... Really the title of the video has absolutely nothing on how amazing this video is. Devo you really captured the bond that you share with this sweet pup. Anyone who sees this video knows that you and your pup have a bond that is magic.
Load More Replies...That's a malamute, just went to the wolf sanctuary in Colorado and calling dogs wolf dogs encourages people to actually go out and get them then they call the sanctuary desperate to get rid of this crazy wild animal who is tearing up their s**t. The sanctuary is FULL!!!!!! Stop encouraging "wolf dogs" as pets. That's just a dog, a malamute, they are usually very large. He's adorable, go to your local shelter and adopt a big fun dog of your own.
This is definitely an Alaskan Malamute. Also, real wolf hybrids are not great pets, I hope more people understand this. They are NOT dogs, they're part wild animal and will act like such.
You cannot "definitely" tell whether a dog is a wolf hybrid by looks alone. I had a malamute/Siberian/Timberwolf and he was AMAZING.

He's saying you should bring your dog places and go exploring. Hiking, outdoors, events, etc. To give your pet stimulation. I have two Pomeranian and they go many places - Florida, Pittsburgh, Camping, Hiking, Pet Events etc. Many people when they have a yard don't even bother to walk their dog, so encouraging some more stimulation within your dog's comfort level is a positive thing that he is promoting.
Load More Replies...Listen! All you people who think you've owned or known "low percentage" wolfdogs are GUARANTEED misinformed. GENES DON'T WORK THAT WAY. Real professionals determine wolf content through phenotyping! Phenotyping means looking at the physical traits the animal has and determining from there the contents of their genes. I have heard from a variety of professionals, and I can see for myself, that Loki here has NO WOLF TRAITS WHATSOEVER. He's got husky face markings, heterochromia (NEVER seen in wolves or wolfdogs with any significant content), compact kitty paws, pointy ears, a deep chest, and round doggy eyes and lips. There's no mistaking that he's a beautiful animal, but facts are facts. Saying that wolfdogs are inappropriate pets is not "demonizing" or "hating" them, it's just plain common sense. MISREPRESENTATION KILLS!!!

Amazing photos, greetings and five from my boy Ojo . ;) 20150411_0...dd90e2.jpg
Beautiful pics and beautiful animal, but where's the "wolfdog" to which you refer? There is certainly no wolfdog in any of these photos. Calling dogs wolfdogs leads people to purchase wolfdogs believing they will behave like Loki does. They don't. Calling your dog a wolfdog is also risking your dog's life, as there are no approved rabies vaccinations for wolfdogs. Wanna get your beautiful, loving, husky, Malamute or otherwise "wolfy-looking" dog taken away form you and very possibly killed? Tell people it's a wolfdog. I am NOT being "negative," I'm trying to save animal lives.
This is such an encouragement to teach our wolfdog (still in the puppy years) to not run when off leash...so we can go places with him, too...Thanks for sharing these photos...AND my absolute favorite? The 1st photo in the line-up showing Loki in a hammock...he looks so pleased with himself and with life, and that's as it should be.
Um, guys. If any of you took the time to just click to his instagram or Facebook, you would see he writes that Loki does have wolf ancestry. And having worked at a shelter in CO where we have had them come in, you CAN'T tell for sure just looking at them either. End of argument please.
Thank you really love your dog and your attitude and the photo's are inspiring
I had a Siberian Husky...wolf gray, whom looked an awful lot Nike Loki, not nearly as large, mind you, but I always affectionately referred to her as my, 'wolfie'....Could it be that it's the case with Loki? Cripes, people. Beautiful creature....amazing bond!
Ninety percent of these comments gave me, and every remaining wolf dog, cancer. The Internet is a sad place filled with people missing the point entirely, desperately trying to correct perceived wrongs that have nothing to do with anything and grammar Nazis. I am going to remove myself from this cesspool of vapid commentary and go play with my dog, who may or may not, also be a wolf. Good day.
I love that video.. Pure freedom and exhilaration. Loki is awesome!!!
YES!!!!!!!We totally agree!! We love camping with our 3 small dogs! We take them every time now!!!
Kelli, I love you to bits because of how much you love your Loki! The love bond with a dog is the strongest bond imaginable - hard to understand until you have a dog in your heart, and you are in his/her heart. Our two athletic dogs are older now (12 & 11) so we have changed our Colorado "lifestyle" to accommodate shorter adventures. We'll be by their side to the end though, no mater how far (or not) they can still walk.
Incredible. Such beuatiful pictures and that video. The joy of Loki makes me smile. Bu the way. Is he that big or does it just looks .ike he is so big. Or is it because he is a wolf dog. Does that mean hybrid?
Wonderful pictures! Even more so in Loki's instagram! Just forget about these so-called internet "experts" that claim whatever breed he may be just by looking at pictures. Sad really, some people just have to keep hateful comments to themselves. Amazing photos and scenery! Loki looks like he is having loads of fun with his pack!
1st of all, you can clearly see that that is not a wolf dog. 2nd of all, misrepresentation is bad... People get wolfdogs that they can not handle because a misrepresented dog made them interested... 3rd of all the comments are not all hateful just because they are saying that the dog is not a wolf dog.
Load More Replies...We had a wolf hybrid and we loved him we were all part of his pack
I owned a wolf hybrid his name was Wubbie they take a lot of work and its a lifelong commitment not recommended for everyone. Loki is unusual name I once supported a Wolf Refuge called Loki Clan Wolf Refuge in Conway NH but they disbanded and its called something else now. Thank you for sharing your story perhaps you should write a book?
What an absolutely beautiful dog... & he's a big boy too isn't he...?! <3
This is love! Dog's love adventures too! The pictures are breathtaking!!!!
I had a huskey/wolf mix and she was a phenominal dog. I wish I could have another, but I live in Florida. It is just too hot here. Mielle was over 100 lbs. ad she never barked. She would howl at sirens and could awaken the dead with it, but she was a perfect pet in everyway. Loki looks so much like Mielle, I am amazed. Have many happy trails!
Beautiful photography and adorable wolfdog! Loved the video, too ;) (And for all those arguing about wolfdogs, they are as diverse as any other dogs within their breed. I had a German Shepherd/Wolf/Husky mix and she was shy as a pup, brave & adventurous as a teen and friendly & outgoing as an adult into her senior years. Throughout all her years she was loving & gentle towards people she liked and ignored those she mistrusted. She also was very gentle & curious when it came to other species, such as cats & even chickens! Wouldn't have trusted her around rabbits or squirrels, tho! Nor would I with many breeds, such as terriers or beagles! Until you actually own & live with a wolfdog, please keep your opinions to yourself & just enjoy the pics. Thanks!)
I think he's beautiful and very trusting. I think I would be afraid that out in the open some crazy person/hunter would mistake him for a wolf and shoot him. I would never, ever want to see that happen. I'm not sure where you live, but it's beautiful and pristine and I just don't trust hunters. Protect your gorgeous friend at all costs.
Your dog is beautiful, and your adventures are amazing! Is that not enough? Why pretend that your dog is a wolf dog?
yeah i wish more dog owners would take their pet on an excursion to the fcking grand tetons, i mean everybody has the resources to do that at the drop of a hat right? its not like there are different levels of socioeconomic stability or systemic issues that could possibly force pet owners to keep their dogs inside or, god forbid, in a backyard, they're just mean hearted curmudgeons who totally deserve for a privileged chode with no concept of a realistic worldview to pass judgement on them
I don't get why people are getting angry about this. Yes, he is going into the mountains (I live about an hour from Denver and you don't have to go to the Grand Tetons for that scenery, it's only 30 minutes to an hour away, which is why many people live in the area) with his dog, but you don't have to do that, going for long walks close to you are great too. The thing is, unfortunately, lots of people don't--I see people all the time on their smartphones, dragging their dog down the street when he/she wants to stop to sniff something, just trying to get their 20 minute quota in and go on to other things. Lots of people DON'T take their dogs out to do fun things on their days off b/c they are busy, let alone on work days. Lots of people leave their dogs home alone all day with nothing to do, or don't take them for walks because they have a yard they can just let them out in instead. If you do keep your dog active, then that's great, but he's trying to inspire people who don't.
Load More Replies...The best thing about having a dog is the opportunity to be outdoor frequently. I never get bored looking at my "tamed wolf" nosing around, running like mad through thicket or digging furiously. Great photos!
Yhe next time you make a video like this, please add where the photos were taken!
What a beautiful dog. He sure loves going to all these places with you. I can see the joy on his face. He had a great time running through that snow. So powerful and fast too!!
Прекрасные люди, замечательные собаки и великолепное видео! Мы тоже любим своих питомцев, по этому путешествуем с ними . Это так весело!
Hei from Levi, Finland! Good goes around the world: thanks for sharing the amazing pictures and the video :) Happy runs for you and your doggie! Sanna and Susi the siberian husky doggie :)
I pretty much want these pics in calendar form .. I love them so much
Happiest dog I have ever seen. Wonderful photos :) Living life to the fullest!
The sad thing about this article are the negative comments. He is not encouraging wolf dogs, he's encouraging people not to keep their dogs locked up.. It justso happens he has a wolf dog. I think what you are doing with Loki is great. There will always be bitter people that have somehig to say. Keep up the great work, Loki seems extremely happy.
I just love these shots---you caught the spirit of the "dog", whatever breed you want to call him, completely. Makes me miss my husky and pledge to take my current babies out more. I love nature, and I am sure they will love it more, if I let them be them. Never stop inspiring----you got it!
A beautiful dog that has such a great human to love honor and protect him. And take him to wonderful places. ... Always took our dogs (have had 12 almost all rescues over the years) everywhere. They especially loved the beach where they could run free and chase the wind and the gulls ! Also my great belief is to be able to train them so they can be off leash. Worked for all except for one crazy JRT that someone didn't want.
I have no clue why you people are sitting here arguing about the breed of this dog.. the fact is you have no idea what breed it is and there is no way to definitively find out.. Anyways, this dog is gorgeous and I am absolutely in love with the photography. Thank you so much for sharing and giving this dog the life it deserves! ♡
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS ....FALLEN INLOVE.WITH HIM...THE DOG THAT IS.....BEAUTIFUL PHOTOES FANTASTIC SCENERY....GOOD WORK !!!!!!!!!
On every pictures, the dog look at the cam and seems to say : thanks for this awesome adventure human! haha :D
you are literally the best human being on the planet. someday I will have a dog to do this with <3
You have such a worthy perspective to be sharing about the freedom, exploration, and excitement dogs deserve. Loki is so handsome.
This is Amazing. The most inspirational images that I've seen this days, maybe this year. I'm going to get my dog now to joy me in a great adventure. See u later, guys!!!
Awesome! What a lucky dog to have such a caring and committed human! I wish more people would look at life and 4 legged companions as you do.
Amazing to me that even the most beautiful photography, accompanying am amazing and inspiring story, at the heart of which describes the best in man/ man's best friend symbiosis, could possibly be met with negativity, pomposity and criticism. Let it go, people. Your energies are far-better served, and negativity spewed, with stories of real issue...the story of a certain majestic beast being killed by a certain cowardly, masculine-challenged dentist, comes to mind. Leave this story as it is intended. A wish to get people more involved in enjoying the outdoors with their companion-animals.
Just seeing this reminds me of the adventures I had with my wolf-hybrid best friend Jhargis (mistakened his name in reference to 'Jarvis').. awesome family and moments!
Wolfdogs are real breeds, and they can be some of the nicest dogs ever, my moms co worker had a German shepherd wolf mix and they said it was probably the nicest dog ever, it just looked intimidating
I simply love the howling dog, I think someone is in the background kinda egging him on to howl, but that's okay, he is so beautiful, you are very lucky to have such a gorgeous dog!! What's his/her name??
May I say, you all look to be truly enjoying your wilderness hiking and taking along the most beautiful dog I have ever seen, Loki is simply marvelous, very handsome. He is the one who appears to be having the time of his life and I totally agree a dog isn't something that ought to be shut away or kept on a chain outside. Dogs enjoy the outdoors and all the cool stuff you give your beloved Loki, but, in reality most folks don't have the means to take their dogs for adventures like this. Lovely of you to share your beautiful pictures, I really did enjoy every moment!!!
This looks like an adventure I wanted to have when I was a child. Very very badly and never had occasion to this was cathartic.
Gosh what is that kind of dog? It's just the perfect dog EVER I want one!
So......! I am sorry in the first! This is all, not just the picturest are.....my frinde...the things the life the secret pint what all the people search and want. So i don 't wanna need posts or smart bla bla-s. if you have time. Please answer me........ All the best for all of you and all... :)
cool doggie, living a great life, like the one where he has his own sleeping bag
Inspiring for sure! Our friends need lots of love and exploring possibilities as well!
Stunning dog. Just makes me want one just like him. Wonderful hiking area too.
They're all beautiful shots, 'Peanut Butter Moustache' is my favorite!
Your photos are stunning of your beautiful dog! How lucky you both are to have each other!
Amazing, I love the photos where Loki lays in the hammock, he looks so happy! Very inspiring, more people should take their dogs out. Keep it up! (Y)
How did you train a malamute/husky to be off leash?? I have a husky that I love but the breed is known to run when off leash. I would love to be able to do more of this.
The photos are magnificent. The family relationships are to be envied, and who cares if this is a 100% wolf or any other combination: it's obvious there is a deep and loving bond here, which I know first hand CAN be developed with a "real" wolf. Extremely lucky canine, and it would be wonderful if all the dogs in the world could have the loving kind of life they prefer regardless of indoor or outdoor living.
Almost makes me want to get a dog. Gorgeous photos here, thank you!
You are a great man to take ur dogs on with u and not locked in houses
We’re hosting a fundraising campaign for our friend against breast cancer. Hope you can contribute a little to her or just share this “Story inside Toilet Paper Rolls” on your social network. Thank you. https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/312fbb/ab/d599D4
The great one. I love it and want to have the good experience like that.
Amazing history I like too much dog Happy to see them enjoying #dog_lover_for_ever
Do you know what they say about dogs with two different colored eyes? That they have been to heaven and back, but looking at your photos is arargue that he is still in heaven. You are a great dog owner, and a phenomenal photographer. Good job!

Wonderful - love the video ... you are so lucky to have such a beautiful hound he is one happy dog...
This is so awesome and made me so happy! This is what u life for, and so do animals. They where not created to stand in a grassland doing nothing but eating or sitting at home waiting for their boss to kom home. Especially your kind off dog (wolf-dog) is made for running in the snow and a lot of activity. It is so lovely to see that soms people get that and actually do this with their dog! U really made my day! Your dog must be lucky to be yours ❤️
Every single man should see the happiness in this dog's eyes. Those pictuers show amazing story, beautiful dog and kind-hearted group of people <3
Beautiful dog, beautiful nature, beautiful photos, beautiful video, beautiful everything!!! :-)
What a lucky guy and lucky pup, both :) They live an epic life!! Lovely to see positive things :)
He is one happy and content looking dog.... No doubt with a person like you, he seems so happy. God bless.
Ive seen this on instagram, and its some of the most beautiful photos I have seen :0
Just amazing beautiful dog beautiful places what a wonderful life Loki exudes pure joy in the snow
D'aww! So cute! I hope I don't sound stupid but what type of dog is this? ^^
Beautiful, beautiful baby!!! Makes me miss my wolf dog, Tipperary. He lived to be 22 years old and was the most loyal friend I've ever had.
HEY DID YOU GUYS KNOW THAT ISNT A WOLF DOG. EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW THAT.
These photos are so lovely; they give me some hope which I too much need these days.. But you definitely shouldn't come to Turkey! Some parts of my public like to shoot kids (including ages 2,3..) these days, they might want to test their ability on Loki as well. Well, honestly, you might even face to choose betwen being shooted or being raped. Just wanted to share about what kinds of things are happening here around..
Those photos are so great and giving hope, which I very much need these days.. But you definitely shouldn't come to Turkey.. Some part of my public are quite happy to be shooting and torturing kids, they will probably try to test their ability on Loki as well
He's beautiful, he reminds me of my "wolf" dog. She was 1/4 wolf, shepard, Husky and lab. But big and really furry like that. I'd say you have about 1/4 wold and the rest husky in this one.
I hate when people say they have a wolfdog. People love to brag about things and saying you own a wolfdog is "trendy" and conveys the wrong idea.

It's just the perfect dog EVER I want one!

cool doggie, living a great life, like the one where he has his own sleeping bag
Every single sharing click makes a difference. That would help her overcome difficulty and encourage other women with positive attitude against breast cancer diagnosis. Thank you. https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/312fbb/ab/d599D4

You know what the two different eye colors mean? That he's been to heaven and back, but from your photos, I'd argue that he is still in heaven. You are a great owner, and an awesome photographer. Great job!
