My friend really wanted a Harry Potter monopoly board – but sadly they do not exist. So I made one!
I spent 80+ hours on the board layout, the cards, and all the extra details. I’m so happy with the final product though!
Starting with the final product: board and all the pieces
Mirror image print – creating the board layout was difficult, but also fun to create my own properties
Lay out a layer of polycrylic, lay down the paper, allow to dry, and rub away the paper. It leaves the ink behind
Finished the rubbing with some woodburned edges
Adding the center image and burning the card spaces
An (incomplete) photo of the properties – front and back
Railroads turned to Transportation Methods of the Wizard Community and I turned utilities to newspapers
Charms=Chance, Potions=Community Chess
I used Disney Monopoly pieces and a little spray paint for the houses/hotels
Instead of paper money, I used the Wizard coins of knuts, sickles, and galleons; but with my own variation. I changed the values to simply 10, 50, and 100 values instead
I bought a poker case to hold the money and the cards, tokens, and pieces
I printed out Monopoly Rules (slight HP Variation of course) for the top. Gold spray paint on some wood dividers completed it. (She’s a Gryffindor, hence the color scheme).
Final layout
With another image of the Gringotts logo on the case and I’m all done

"Copyright law does not protect simple product lettering or coloring, OR the mere listing of PRODUCT ingredients or contents." The name Monopoly and the PRODUCT ingredients or contents in the game is not protected unless it is used for PROFIT. Fan art done for personal pleasure to make a profit will expose the fan to the risk of suits. There is NO Harry Potter Monopoly. AND there is no profit being gained with this Monopoly. it is for personal use. You have to be careful because of your business. I believe that gains PROFIT. :)
Load More Replies...I'm guessing this was made for personal use only. If the author was to try and market it, or put it on Kickstarter, there's a very good chance they could be sued for copyright infringement. Now that that's out of the way, I gotta say, this was incredible! Nicely done!
You are a very very good friend with monster talent! I've looked at this section several times in awe of your creativity! Too bad you can't work a deal with Ms. Rowlings and the Monopoly folks to produce these on a bigger scale!! Great idea, people would buy these for sure!!

This Monopoly game is an idea that has not been created before and has not been sold for Profit. NO rights have been infringed on. If he tries to gain profit from it, he would need Parker Brothers and W.B permission.
50 points to you Jenna Shaw. Dont know which house you belong to but hey!
I want one, and I sure as hell would pay buckets for it. Let me know if you’d ever be interested.
The legal complications of just posting the pics are mind baffling. I really love what has been done but it really is a legal minefield crossing lots of different companies (Disney, WB, Waddingtons to name a few) Good luck
Do you want to be my friend? I've a spot available. I always have a spot for a person like you.
It's beautiful, hope you get credit if they go into production. You are the creator after all. :)
This is Absolutely amazing and you are a truly fantastic talented person!!
I don't know why there's not a reply option under Ty Duffy :) "Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. No one is charged for a pledge towards a PROJECT unless it reaches its funding goal. A creator is the person or team behind the project IDEA, working to bring it to LIFE. Backers are folks who pledge money to join creators in bringing PROJECTS to life." They do not sell products. he would not get paid for it. He could put this on Kickstarter then they take it off immediately OR He could get a backer to help a team prefect the game & the backer tries to convince WB & JK to create a H.P monopoly. You cant be sued for an idea."WHAT IS NOT PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT.. Copyright law protects the expression of facts and ideas, not the ideas and facts themselves. BTW Kickstarter would get permission before backers helped him bring the game to life.
Load More Replies...Hey i would love to get the rules for this game... like how many coins you give out to each player?
May we ask you to share the files of your design? So we could make it ourselves!
This is ingenious. Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet that the monopoly game makers are not going to be ok with it being marketed.
would be great if you could share the templates you used. or even sell them. i'd be willing to pay for them. im rubbish on computers, and would never be able to make them myself!
Will you make the plans, cards available for download for others to do this as well?
Do you have the files available for download? Like the cards, plans etc?
Hi! Have you thought of making a business out of this? I am quite interested in ordering a board like this :)
That's fantastic. Please start mass producing them, I need one urgently ;-)
THIS IS AMAZING *throws money on laptop* WHY ISN'T THIS A THING?!
It is absolutely brilliantly done BUT the Harry Potter stuff is trademarked, both by JK Rowling and Warner Brothers and as such you aren't allowed to use it in your work. You have to be very careful when using images and concepts which aren't original.
He is not selling this and this item was made for his personal use... it is like someone telling me I can't paint anything that's trademarked and hang it on my wall etc etc. I hope you can understand what my point is. On the other hand if he started a mass business selling those monopoly using the name "Harry Potter" or anything else that is already trademarked by the HP series, then yeah he would certainly get into some serious trouble.
