My husband and I have a tradition of creating an unconventional Christmas tree every year. Do you remember our DIY Christmas tree from last year on Bored Panda? This year we used mirrors and reclaimed wood to create a futuristic-looking tree. As this decade comes to an end you can say we’ve done a lot of “reflecting”!

With the lights on in the room it’s very plain and reflective, but with the lights off and tree lights on the look changes entirely. The result is very abstract but perfect for entering the year 2020!

With a black light and string lights, it goes from elegant to otherworldly

Lights off and tree lights on

I used a black curtain for some shots to cover the mirrors on the wall

First, we removed the mirrors from their frames

We then built boxes to glue the mirrors to

I found cheap full-length mirrors for the wall behind

Broken up mirrors for the mosaic garland. Good thing we aren’t superstitious!

Mosaic garland was added before decorating

Finished! Which effect do you like best?

Cool! But not something I'd make for myself (one of the reasons is my cat ... and I'd probably cut myself on one of the mirrors too)

lol yes, luckily we don't have cats or children yet, but I did get quite a few minor scrapes and cuts! I plan to turn the mirrors into mosaic art after Christmas so it was great practice.

This is a really creative idea and I think it works beautifully. It gives me great modern art vibes!

This is a brilliant idea and very beautiful. When the curtain is up, there's a very definite kind of Peanuts' Charlie Brown esqe tree image going on. I love the eclectic and futuristic vibe. Congrats on your awesome tree!

I made a Christmas tree out of empty Evan Williams(rot gut whiskey) bottles. It took two months of hard drinking to make a floor to ceiling tree

Cool mirror shelf (trees are tree shaped this is shelf shaped) but pretty anyway. I guess blood red which is Christmas coloured I assume bleeding was part of foolishly playing with broken glass without lather gloves. Silly idea that kinda looks pretty to someone (not me) stick to broken glass branches and make a tree shaped tree nobody would assume tree unless told this is why it's a shelf at best
