Here Are 19 Pics Of Our Unconventional-Looking Christmas Tree Made From 2 Gallons Of Glue, 15 Pounds Of Corn Starch, And Yarn

My husband and I continued our tradition of making an Unconventional Christmas tree for the 6th year in a row. This year, we used 2 gallons of glue, 15 pounds of corn starch, and a lot of green yarn to create a giant version of the popular smaller yarn cone craft.

After creating a giant cone mold, we were able to soak the yarn in a one-part glue, one-part corn starch mixture, and wrap it all around. After a week, it dried and we were able to remove the mold to decorate it. It was a mess fitting for the year 2020, but as always, it was fun! Enjoy!

You can find our previous DIY Christmas tree posts by following these links:  Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5.

The finished result

We even made the ornaments from yarn and glue too

Supplies we used

First we made a giant cone mold from chicken wire covered in paper

Then we wrapped the cone with plastic wrap to keep the glue soaked and yarn from sticking

You can tell, it was a mess

For ornaments we took 100 water balloons and wrapped them in different colored yarn

After one week we took the tree out of the mold. It is completely hollow inside!

putting the ornaments on the string of lights

Adding the ornaments, some fairy lights, and some other details made it pop!

All finished!

Watch the whole process in this video!

Other than that, outside of work, you can find me brewing a nice cup of coffee, making a pizza from scratch, or baking brownies. I also love traveling, concerts, and cats (heavy on that, because I am a cat mom).

It looks like a fun project. Does it get recycled / given away or is it being dumped after single use?

Most of them are actually repurposed into our year round home decor afterwards! Other parts I keep and reuse for other projects/crafts

I wish I had the time, energy, money and most importantly, the patience lol. But very good. Maybe I can hire you to do some centerpieces for my Christmas wedding next year? lol. You're amazing.

I love them all. Do you keep them or eventually sell them?

So far most of them I've repurposed into year round decor lol. For example the paint chips I took apart and framed for our wall and the mirror tree is now a tv stand/table!

The lights were an amazing idea. Gonna have to try that myself when I change up my fairy lights that I have up all year round in my office.

They were actually pretty easy! I think I'll be using the lantern lights somewhere in our house all year also

The upside-down tree is really clever. How do you get it to stay up? Is the top shoved into the big box?

Yep! Actually we tied a longer pvc pipe to the trunk and then stuck that through a hole in the center of the box....then we found out later you can actually buy upside down trees!

What did I miss? I tried to detail everything in the post and video but 99% of it was all yarn, glue, and cornstarch
