Meet Bali Pip, the playful pup rescued from the streets of Bali suffering from mange; blind but loyal Shazza; Raul, who takes his partial paralysis in his stride; and many more cute dogs in a new book by award-winning animal photographer Alex Cearns. Based on an original photo series launched on Bored Panda, these beautiful photos of perfectly imperfect dogs will uplift and inspire, finding a special place in your heart with their ability to overcome physical adversity. Cearns artfully captures their intrinsic beauty and spirit in his pet portraits; their sweetness, resilience, and strength.
"One of my most passionate aims as an animal photographer is to capture the adorable subtleties that make all creatures precious and unique. I love every adorable animal I have the privilege of photographing, but those perceived as different hold a special place in my heart. These are the adorable dogs who have lost a leg, been born without eyes, or are still showing the scars of former abuse," says Cearns. "Most animals with ‘afflictions’ don’t dwell on them. They adapt to their bodies without complaint and they survive with determination. They push on, always, wanting to be included and involved in everything as much as they can, and as much as an able-bodied pet does."
"The tenacity of animals to overcome adversity never ceases to amaze me. They make the most out of life and from them I have learned so much about always seeing the positive in every situation and never giving up.”
'Perfect Imperfection - Dog portraits of Resilience' and love are available from 19th March 2018 and is a dog photography book for everyone who loves them; fans of the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, or of seeing the beauty in imperfection; and anyone who needs a hit of inspiration. Part of the proceeds from every sale will be donated to the Australian Animal Cancer Foundation to help them work towards finding a cure for canine cancer.

Lady Bug Who Is Blind

Raul And His Wheels
They all look like nice dogs and I sincerely hope they all have good loving homes. Too bad there are no cat pictures. Oskar the Blind Cat was quite well known for helping to cheer up blind children. Sadly, he passed away a couple months ago.
Wait--Oskar passed away? I loved him! He was so awesome!
Load More Replies...When one of my cats went blind due to a tumor it was an amazing thing to watch, it didn't even take her three days to start moving around the apartment exactly as she used to before. One of my cats now had a brain injury as a kitten which resulted in muscle tremors and very little coordination, no one wanted her because it's not curable. She doesn't even need treatment, so it wasn't about the money. Most people just don't want "imperfect" things around them. But it's their loss. Watching my cats handle their disabilities and find ways to achieve things they set their mind on is so amazing and inspiring. I will always adopt a pet with special needs, if possible. They are as perfect as the others and deserve a chance in life!
my cat doesn't have one eye, he was sick when he was small and they had to remove it. no one wanted him, he spent 2 years in a foster home until me and my family adopted him along with one more cat from that shelter. I stil don't get why people refuse to adopt animals just because they are not perfect. this photoshoot is perfect (:
Absolutely beautiful! Wish I could post a picture of my Bug here. Teacup Aussie born without a left eye. Sweetest fur-ball in the world!
They're all so cute and if I could, I'd take every single one of them home with me. Special needs just means they're extra special pets. 😃
I would like to take all these dogs and give them a big hug and never let them go. They are adorable.
All these guys have attitude which is what counts! Kudos to these winners!
Amazing talent, can’t wait for the book launch to get myself a copy! And for such a wonderful cause.x
Thanks Marciel, for sharing Alex's work so generously while we wait for our copies ... the excitement grows :-)
All of these dogs are wonderful. It's fantastic some people see beyond the perfect furry friend. They all have amazing handsomeness and beauty, inside and out. :) :)
This is a beautiful idea. Truth be told, I wish people could as accepting about deformities in humans as they are when it comes to deformities in animals.
Sorry, WHAT? I think you mixed up something there.
