Artist Puts People From Classical Paintings Into The Modern World, And The Result Is Surprisingly Fitting (42 New Pics)
Imagine if subjects from classical paintings spilled out into the real world to live among us, butt-naked and all that. Wouldn't it be strange to see these characters in real life? For this Ukrainian artist, this doesn't sound so unreasonable.
Ukrainian artist Alexey Kondakov's project 'The Daily Life of Gods' mixes dramatic Renaissance classical artworks with the often idyllic environments of the modern world, and the photo manipulations are impressive.
The digital art project began in 2015 when Kondakov used photographs that he took in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and used them as a background for a digital collage made with Photoshop. In these four years, many images have been created, generating three posts previously here on Bored Panda. You can check each of them here, here, and here.
"This project is kind of a 'surrealistic documentary photography' of day-to-day stories, situations, and places all around the world (at least places I've been), inspired by the simple love to stare at everything that surrounds me. A new life of the old paintings, re-thinking the situations by changing the background of the characters into a modern environment," the artist said.
"The latest photo editing artworks are about nightlife, my new experience of attending raves. I am working on this at the moment."

I love this one. One a literal level it seems to tell the story of a country girl in the city. On the more metaphorical level one could probably write dozens of essays inspired by this photo; on the tensions between being and belonging, on gazing into a bigger world but seeing only your own desires reflected back, ect.

This makes me think of the poor locations such as Alexandria outside of Johannesburg, where the unwanted working class is banished after a day of working for those in power who remain in their towers.

This one has me completely confused. She is descending a staircase in bare feet, but carrying a shoe horn. Judging from her attire and jewelry, she can afford an entire closet full of shoes. I can’t tell exactly what she is holding in her left hand that is consuming all of her attention, but it isn’t a shoe.

What's offensive about a boob to a little kid? This is art, not pornography. The kids aren't stupid, they know what's under there. They can go to literally any museum and see this, so there's no point about this except teaching girls there's something shameful about their breasts/nipples when it's just a normal part of their anatomy

I've never been on any site before that censors art. The only art censoring I've seen has come from certain Muslim countries, but they would censor the whole naked torso and not just the nipples. Censoring the nipples of a piece of art is the most ridiculous thing ever

Can't be for the kids' sake, kids would see these paintings in school art history classes, in museums, if they did a f*****g Google search because paintings like these are not pornography. If nipples are fine for schools, public museums and easy to find on Google with the safe search on, then why not BP? There's nothing shameful about breasts and nipples and there's no need to censor them in these paintings because they're just a normal part of women's anatomy

I think most of the paintings are from William-Adolphe Bouguereau. A couple of google image searches and you will see all those nipples, areola and all the whistles and bells.
