My name is Monica Carvalho and every day I challenge myself to find similarities between the human body and nature. My passion - and mission - is to create stunning pictures that will make you look twice!
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.”
This quote by Edgar Degas has been the guideline for my artistic practice since my obsession with optical illusions, photo manipulations, and surrealism started ten years ago.
The 'bodyscapes' below illustrate my fascination for the connection between human anatomy and natural elements. I perceive body parts as a landscape.
Noticing resemblances - color, shape, texture - between body and nature is the first step towards creating unique artwork. I use interesting photos from my travels and of my body (or sometimes of my friends). Once I have taken the photos I need, I merge them on Adobe Photoshop. I choose this software as the canvas to express myself artistically because of the endless photo editing possibilities it offers.
I hope that, in a sense, my digital art will reconnect you to the natural world. After all, we are all children of Mother Nature...

Imagine just walking along the beach and suddenly you find yourself at falling into a giant navel.
For a minute, as I was scrolling, I was like ARE THESE GOING TO BE CONNECTED TO BOOBIES?!
my mind is a dark tunnel too... unfortunately there's not a clear path to the light. my mind is an ever-changing labyrinth of darkness and chaos that is constantly under the pressure of manipulation. i'm not assertive, and it really takes a lot out of me to protect myself from people who want to use me. i have so many problems and my mind is constantly in this fragile emotional state but nobody ever believes me because i'm positive and childish and always try to see the light in everything, whether it's people or a bad situation. nobody takes me seriously and it's taking a toll on my sanity. this picture spoke to me in a way that i hope it spoke to others, and i hope that someday I can find the path to the light.
it conceals the pain with the relaxation and simplicity of ocean waves...
I would aggressively jump on the sand to see if the large man would react, or try to dig a hole through the sand lol
You are a master of photoshop! One day, I hope to be able to blend my photos as good as you can. What app(s) do you use?
Oh never thought about that! What movies would you see them in? :)
