30 Celebrities Recreated As If They Were In Classical Paintings, By Kyès (New Pics)
Art from the past comes back into our lives once again. The internet fell in love with classical paintings that were turned into memes, therefore, we are sure you will be interested to see what this artist did.
Kyès is an expert in using the style of French 17th-18th century paintings to reimagine what today's celebrities would look like if they lived back in the day.
His first works portrayed French rappers, but later on, he included other celebrities. These paintings are made digitally using computer programs, but the results seem to look just like real paintings from the past.
If you would like to see more of this artist's works, see part1.

Kyès' first shared digital painting was of Charles Baudelaire, a French poet, portrayed as a joker. The artist seems to give attention to French artists and celebrities first, but over time has incorporated other well-known people such as Rihanna, Beyonce, Kanye West, and others as well.

Kyès uses Photoshop to recreate old classical paintings into ones with celebrities that are famous today. Such an approach makes us look up original paintings that let us revive our memories of old art. We noticed that Kyès usually uses paintings from the 16th to 18th century as a base. The art style varies from the High Renaissance to Rococo and Neoclassicism.

Most Renaissance artwork is thought to be made between 1300 and 1600. After that, all the art is classified as High Renaissance. The difference between these two is that while earlier Renaissance artists would emphasize a work's perspective or technical aspects, High Renaissance artists were willing to forego technical principles to create a more beautiful, harmonious whole.

If you are interested in exploring more posts about the Renaissance art style that is used in today's art, you would probably be interested in checking out this post about Accidental Renaissance pics. But not only photos and portraits have been reused or compared to the Renaissance era, but also sculptures. In the post “Accidental Renaissance If Renaissance Sculptures 'Behaved' In A Modern Way” you will see some more mash-ups of today's world represented in an old art form.

I guess I'm getting old, because I don't know who most of these people are
I was thinking the same thing. I have no clue who most of them are.
Load More Replies...OK, I am ready to be downvoted for this opinion, but I need to ask - why did the artist paint black celebrities wearing Middle Ages/Classic Age European outfits? Why not some regally 17th/18th century African fashion - google what Ethiopian or Nigerian nobility used to wear at those times - that was some absolutely splendid fashion. And before you tell me it`s because the artist can do what they want, how would you feel if they painted a white celebrity wearing traditional African or Carribean fashion? In my opinion this was a missed opportunity to show respect to the traditional culture of ancestors of these people.
Because the artist is an expert is 17th/18th century FRENCH art, which is a distinctive style.
Load More Replies...These all came out so good. It's amazing that he did all of these (and many more apparently) in real paint. That is some damn fine honed talent.
Sucks to be an old person. NO idea who most of these people are.
I can safely say that some younger people don't either (I'm one of them).
Load More Replies...I knew like 4 people in that list. And Kanye West only belongs on the insane people of America list.. he isn't right in his head.
How about this… why not do some 17th/18th century portraits of Joe the local butcher, or Celeste the high school lunch lady, or Tim the fireman? Why do we constantly glamorize the glamorous more so than necessary… none of these people are truly heroes, and half of them have questionable “talent”… if that’s not acceptable then the artist should have at least painted these by hand and used some good old fashioned sweat, blood and tears instead of a computer program mixed with some photoshop…
Well, I know 25 of them, and I loved it all. The artist is incredibly talented. I hope they get the recognition they deserve. And as for the arts, my favorites are Scarlett Johansson's, Michael K. Williams', Vanessa Paradis', and Vicent Lacoste's!
I'm the of man out I guess I knew all but 7 of these (though for some I only recognized the name and for some I only recognized the face). I Googled the first unknown, Vanessa Paradis, and it seems like she's mostly famous for having once been married to Johnny Depp. She must be a much bigger deal in France for the artist to choose her, I guess.
Another Boredpanda moving tribute to the awesome power of celebrity worship.
Lighten up Francis, it just some paintings
Load More Replies...Aww, Poor Colin cant stand to see people who don't look exactly like him all the time. For someone who's probably called others 'snowflake', you're sure melting because of an art article. Guess you really are too fragile for words.
