Just been having an in depth discussion about this with my husband (a POC). Can’t you explain why people shouldn’t be called “exotic”?

Ok, and that's YOU. You don't speak for all of us. A definition of that word is literally "from another land/place." Besides, that article radiates snowflake.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind being called exotic. I think it's your choice how you take it.

It’s another way of saying “does not belong”. Exotic = other. If you don’t mind being called separate from the accepted definition of the culture, it’s cool. Wanting to be different is a choice in that way. But if you are trying to show everyone belongs, not just “non-exotics”, it’s problematic.

Think of it like this: what do you think of when you think “exotic”? Now, what have you never ever heard called “exotic”? Exotic is basically a nicer way to say “does not belong”.

Because people who are black or white get jealous. And then try to fake defend us by saying it’s offensive. It isn’t. They’re just bothered that they can’t be called exotic too. Even the linked article is from a black and white girl.

There something in this. For me "exotic" sounds positive.
