Images of Dia de Los Muertos―the Day of the Dead―are a touchstone of Tucson culture. A shared history with the state of Sonora, Mexico, and a flair for the dramatic mean plenty of room for calaveras (sugar skulls) and La Catarina all year.

Each year, the celebration culminates in the All Souls Procession in which well over 10,000 people walk through the El Rio district of Tucson to memorialize loved ones who are no longer with us in this life but who may be able to visit us each year on this day.

These photos were taken at the 31st Annual All Souls Procession in November 2019.
