The thing, everyone claims to be "triggered" by something today. It's lost it's meaning. Like "woke"

I mean, harsh, but not wrong. If you know of someone's triggers, be considerate and respectful at all costs... But everyone you meet can't have pre-existing knowledge of your personal traumas and triggers.

so: first of all, so many people these days are pretending they are 'triggered' by something, when they really are not. it's annoying, and can sometimes harm the people who are actually triggered by things. if you are triggered by something TRULY, it's NOT their responsibility to handle. people can't control what they can and can't hear, so it's best to simply warn the people around them so they don't trigger them. if someone isn't careful enough and does trigger things, it can usually end up pretty bad, as a lot of triggers are because of extremely traumatic things. BUT: I will say this: if this is in a hospital, they shouldn't be hiring people with bad, traumatic triggers, because it would be pretty easy to trigger them with all the hospital patients. this does not mean, however, that they should be hanging this sign up here, it's pretty rude.

As someone that can GENUINELY be triggered (as in have a panic attack so bad I need medical treatment - I have C-PTSD) I am hugely pissed off by the way this word gets thrown around. I do take responsibility for my mental health condition, and can choose to manage symptoms or avoid situations that are potentially harmful to me. Worst case scenario being triggered could result in me needing to be sedated. THAT is being triggered. Getting a bit upset and having a go at people because you can't manage that situation like an adult doesn't compare even slightly. It's ok to be upset about things. It's normal to disagree. It's fine to say "this situation makes me very uncomfortable and I don't like it" but that is NOT the same as dealing with a medical condition in which you can be triggered.

Depends on the trigger, and whether anything that could bring on a panic attack or PTSD flashback doesn’t need to happen or be said in the workplace. If it’s reasonably avoidable, depending on the condition that could be triggered, I don’t see why the employer couldn’t assume some responsibility for their employees’ health and well-being in regards to this issue.

As a lover of stand up comedy, THIS! I'm disgusted at audience members who'll sit thru 3/5th of a show, laughing and clapping, then suddenly freaking out because their trigger is mentioned. How 'bout all the "triggering" jokes you were enjoying earlier in the set?

I actually full heartedly agree with this one. If your offended your offended its your fault no one else's. YOU chose to be offended. I am so tired of people now a day being so offended by literally anything. I have witnessed people in their 20's crying and having break down over s**t like someone MOVED a box in the living room so they cold vacuum the floor.

Today's Affirmation: Your bosses' triggers mean nothing. You eat sh*t every day, but when the boss stubs a toe or has to wait 30 seconds for you to do what they want, they get triggered. F*ck the boss. Do your job, make your team and clients/customers happy, and that is the only obligation you need to meet. Your boss should tiptoe around you, work harder than you, and know your job better than you. Now go home and sleep. Love yourself- because your job will never love you.

While I agree some people overreact, I feel this isn't as recurrent as the Internet and anti-woke wish people to believe. Moreso, people seems to confuse rudeness and insults with criticism and jokes a lot, then are surprised you didn't take it well.

Depends on the context. What are they doing that’s triggering? It could be super offensive, inappropriate stuff. Like when people ask others to keep their racist or sexist comments to themselves and are then called snowflakes. It seems like an ongoing problem if they found it necessary to put up a sign.

I mean, fair. One of the things that have triggered my trauma response is “character stabbed by a person they trust while in a vulnerable position” and as if someone’s gonna know not to talk about the plot of The Godfather? Also, if I’m screaming in the floor trapped in a past memory, I didn’t remember what caused it. It’s the governments job to improve pensions for the disabled, but by hell I can’t expect everyone around me to know everything except what’s common to most, ie r*p* and other violent acts.

Meh. This one I can sorta understand. If you can't be around blood or watch an operation then you shouldn't really be working in an OR and it isn't up to your coworkers or hospital staff to accommodate you; you should find another field to work in.

There's some truth in this, if little tact or empathy. Your feelings and thoughts are things you do and you're responsible for them - they're not something other people do to you. If you ever have therapy, this is what your therapist is trying to get you to understand.
