30 Times Bosses Wrote Such Delusional Notes, These Employees Just Had To Shame Them Online
Any boss can make their employees’ lives heaven or hell, depending on what they’re like as a person and how they manage their people. Unfortunately, the world’s full of truly awful bosses. They think that the word ‘leadership’ doesn’t apply to them. Instead of inspiring and motivating their workers, they patronize, insult, and micromanage them. And any and all respect goes flying out the window.
One way that managers reveal their true feelings, and their deep disdain for their employees is through the notes and signs that they put up, whether inside or outside. Bored Panda has traveled all over the net to bring you the most egregious, the most loathsome examples of these condescending, demeaning notes left.
It’s to show you just how low some bosses can go. In their eyes, everyone’s lazy but them. Everyone’s wrong but them. And then they act surprised when people leave the company because of them. Imagine the surprise on their face when they learn that their actions have [cue dramatic gasp and thunder] consequences.
As you’re scrolling down, have a think about your current and previous workplaces, Pandas. Have you ever come across insulting signs that management put up? What’s the most toxic thing your superiors have ever done? You can unload all of your frustration in the comment section. Go on, you know you need it.

Is this a thing? Genuinely curious as I’ve never heard of thank you notes being part of the job process here in the UK.
They aren't, and at the recruiting job I had (I'm in the UK too), sending one was an automatic reject as it was considered as trying to influence the outcome.
Load More Replies...Send a thank you note after an interview to places here and find yourself on the reject pile. When I did recruiting sending such was classed as automatic reject for trying to manipulate the interview outcome. It is often said by employers that they will contact you and not contact them; and here this is considered badgering them, demonstrating that you can't follow instructions, or trying to influence the interviewer. Thank them for the interview in person as you leave the interview, and when they tell you the result.
I’ve been working since 1979. Never had to send a thank you note after an interview before. It was always the companies who either called you if you got the job, or at least sent you a “thank you, but” letter—-which still urged you to apply again if another job opened up—-if you didn’t.
One could also flip it back on the (potential) employer because I remember after applying for a job and you were not hired, you got a thank you note in a way: a postcard saying thank you for your interest we've chosen someone else ...at least you know they got the application, today you don't even know if they got or looked at your application.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I went through this after being laid off 10+ years ago. You think you fit a job really well but then never even hear back. Especially when pretty much all applications are digital. How hard is it to at least have a form email set up that says they went with someone else.
Load More Replies...You select someone for an interview because you like what you see on their resume i.e. you need someone to fill a certain position. Please stop treating job applicants like beggars. You're not the only place hiring. Have some effing sympathy.
My company took 2 months to get back to me in 1999 when I joined, but they kept me informed it was taking a while and I was happy to wait, and I absolutely did not send them a thank-you follow up, are you crazy?
I'm surprised by this. I'm in the US, and in the companies my wife and I work for thank you notes are a big positive. It's seen as a common courtesy, like sending a thank you note for a gift. While not expected from everyone, my best hires all did this to reinforce their interest and even echo things I said during the interview. I personally have sent these myself, as has my wife. Interesting to see the other views on this as I have just taken it for granted. These are salaried corporate positions for reference.
This comment sums up the generational problem (no "issues" here.) In my early twenties I applied for a lowly Production Operator's job with a major local employer and fortunately failed to secure the job. I was treated courteously and fairly and wrote to the Personnel Officer thanking him for the interview. Several years later, my career had progressed and a senior position came up that I fancied. Landed the job and established a sound career path. Once in post, I talked to the Personnel Officer and he recalled they had checked my previous application and found my "thank you" letter on file, that swung the job...
Sam Dogen, the author of 'Buy This, Not That: How to Spend Your Way to Wealth and Freedom' and the founder of 'Financial Samurai,' shared his thoughts with us about how employees can earn their bosses' respect, what bosses can do to inspire them, the importance of patience, and some of the differences in work ethic between the younger and older generations. "In general, every older generation thinks the younger generation is lazier and has things easier. However, each generation only knows what it knows. So it's unfair to discredit one generation because they now have more creature comforts and so forth," he told Bored Panda.
"As someone who used to manage a small team in finance, the one thing I appreciated the most from employees was effort. If employees were trying their best to get things done and showed that they cared, I knew they were going places," Sam said. "Showing you give a damn about your fellow colleagues and your work is more than half the battle." You can read on for the financial expert's other great insights, Pandas.
Came Into Work This Morning To Find This Taped To The Wall. Boss Went On Tirade Against Me And Co-Worker Yesterday For Talking To Each Other With No Customers In The Store
What is really ridiculous about this tactic is that time and time again, studies have shown that happy and engaged employees are more productive and more likely to stay in a position. Even for entry level positions, the training time involved adds up to a not insignificant cost... give me cheerful and happy every time, especially in a retail environment. Nasty boss is shooting themself in the foot in the long game.
What really worries me is that he is asking the employees to spy on each other, and report their workmates if they see them talking. This bastard would have been a very happy and eager member of the Stasi!
When I worked at Coles (a supermarket chain) we were not allowed to speak to the person on the next register. So we could stand there for up to 4 hours (or more), less than 2 feet away from each other, but not talk except for work related stuff. It was ridiculous standing there ignoring the person beside you while waiting for customers.
I am just sat here shaking my head. That is seriously wrong management
Load More Replies...Seriously. Minions go out of their way to make their work fun.
Load More Replies...Time to talk with your coworker (when the boss can hear you) about finding a better job.
It’s not like the store was packed with customers and the employees were pointedly ignoring them to continue talking to each other. That would be cause for concern. But no, there wasn’t a soul in the store except the two of them. WTF does the boss expect them to do? Stand at attention and never even acknowledge each other? Of course, whenever the boss is around, by way of malicious adherence to the new rule, they should do their work and not let the boss try to engage them in conversation. Turnabout is fair play, after all.
It would be nice to not block the company's name. That would help others decide if they wanna apply there or not.
Wow. That's a fantastic method of getting employees to utilize the benefits of teamwork. A way to boost morale and encourage workers to exchange ideas about job improvements, or suggest solutions to challenges. I guess camaraderie is outdated.

And bring your maga hat... and weapons... we'll be storming the capital later.
MAGA hats that are made in Viet Nam, Florida is soon to be an open carry state for guns, and the fact that it is illegal to discriminate for any reason when hiring, like asking your political views is asking for a very nasty lawsuit. Not sure where this is, but I would be the first in line to apply both for the job, and a lawsuit.

Please let this be a joke. I'm trying to find the background info. about this. EDIT: I can't find anything other than the person who originally posted the picture, commented and put it on Reddit. It has been copied to many other sites, but not one actually mentions the name of the store, location.etc. Maybe someone has better search skills than me? I am still hoping this was made up to get people's blood pressure up, to which it succeeded with at least one person :(
I've seen similar in certain businesses in rural areas near me (northern New England, USA) the one that comes to mind first and foremost is one outside an ammo shop 2 towns over that says "Demoncrats not welcome- Lets Go Brandon"

This is the purity test, though. They say the OPPOSITE of the truth and you have to lap it up and not question it. Otherwise you're not "in". No one on earth could look at the current Republican party and decide they were more rational than the current Democratic party, but that's kind of the point. You have to deny the evidence of what you see, and toe the party line. Always and forever. Such is the modern-day right-wing.

Financial expert and author Sam explained to Bored Panda that when it comes to work, it's a never-ending activity with to end goal in sight. And ain't that true! "There is always something new to create or something more to sell. Therefore, having an employee with a great attitude is the best," he noted that a person's attitude is incredibly important in the workplace.
"Bosses can inspire their employees by giving a damn as well! If the boss is always coming in on time, taking their subordinates out for lunch to see how they are doing, and works hard, employees will be inspired. And when employees are inspired, they will care more and do better work. It is a virtuous cycle," he said that employees value their superiors spending their time with them and giving them attention. "Great bosses lead by example. They are not micromanagers either. Instead, they are honest about difficult situations, believe in their employees, support their employees, and engender trust."
Bored Panda was interested to get Sam's take on how different generations view work from a different angle. The 'Financial Samurai' founder told us that he's a member of Gen X, turning 45 this summer, and this is the only generation that he knows very well. However, he did see oversee some younger employees at work.
"We grew up without the internet and now have the internet," he said about Gen X. "I did manage a couple of employees who were 10 years younger than me, hence the millennial generation. One got in trouble because he felt entitled to a much larger bonus than $20,000 after his first year out of college! After he got his bonus, he refused to come to work for a week. That was an interesting situation," he shared an unusual case of entitlement.
"It seems like more employees want to reach the corner office sooner, without putting in their dues. This may be perhaps due to the internet, social media, and how quickly information is disseminated. When you see someone on social media get super-rich quickly, you start feeling the same way too."
Just Saw This In A Mcdonald’s
That’s a sign everyone should be talking about their pay. Ironically, it’s likely *more* people started talking pay after this, than might’ve otherwise. I’m sure Barbara Streisand would be proud 😂
This sign is also not legal. By federal law, you are allowed to discuss your wage. Any employer trying to block this could be in massive trouble.
Load More Replies...I like how they put the word "pay" in quotation marks. That makes it look like they absolutely know that they're paying not nearly enough.
Not even quotation marks (") but apostrophes (') so showing themselves up as even bigger idiots.
Load More Replies...This is illegal in the US. You are allowed by law to discuss pay with your co workers. They can hash signs all they want but if they really tried to suspend someone for doing that, the Labor Board could be called in.
The labor board can and should be notified. Even putting that piece of paper out to be seen is illegal.
Load More Replies...In the US, that’s illegal. You have the right to discuss your pay with other employees. Thing is, companies get away with this s**t because people have been brainwashed by corporate b******t, and aren’t aware they actually DO have that right.
Only places that are paying people waaaaay too little make these kinds of rules.
Not in my country. It applies to everyone, but it's never upheld by courts or Fair Work. I think Government are actually talking about making it illegal, though.
Load More Replies...Proud Of Gen Z
That’s…illegal 😂. Gotta love when an employer *advertises* their discrimination…
I think everyone is missing why they really quit; look at the date 😁
Load More Replies...Nope. Ageism is ageism... whether against the young or the old. Not all Gen Z-ers would do this, not all boomers are reliable.
It's almost as if people are Individuals, isn't it??? 😲
Load More Replies...The ONLY valid point was the boyfriends hanging out. Let's face it.... that's not only creepy, it's also controlling behavior.
Right? I can't really get why the bf would be standing by the door rhe whole shift, un less is for protection against someone (a rude regular costumer and managemebt isn't doing s**t about that)
Load More Replies...The note is hideous, but I kinda understand his annoyance of having the bfs there the entire shift. I visit sometimes my bf, but never stay for more than half an hour: he is at work after all
I think he means Gen X, not Boomers. A lot of the Boomers are getting up there in age now and probably wouldn't want to stand up 8 hours straight.
Exactly. He skipped over two other generations entirely.
Load More Replies...I am a Xennial. When I was 18-22 I worked in a local restaurant training the new hires. We had the SAME ISSUE. It's not "gen z" its just a teenager thing.
I sort of agree that employees shouldn't really have their friends hanging around all day
While I can understand that the distraction of having boyfriends loitering around the store while the employees are trying to work can be cause for concern, the boss can talk to them—-calmly and without the attitude displayed on this sign—-and maybe limit them to short visits. There are ways to talk to people that don’t involve insults and anger. Obviously, this boss is someone who should never be in a position of authority, as they don’t know how to be an effective leader. I’m 61 now. I went back to college as a freshman at 51 (college wasn’t possible for me at 18), and sat in class with people as young as 18. Because I was always straight with them, wasn’t condescending or dismissive, didn’t play “us vs them” with our respective generations, and considered myself as nothing more than one of their fellow students, I got along really great with them. If older people would just lose the stereotypical “these damn kids these days” attitude, and the younger people would lose their own “OK Boomer” attitude, we’d get along better, and accomplish more together than we’ve ever been able to apart.
You are correct - I'm 70 years old, and I've personally never had a problem with much younger co-workers because I treated them with respect as individuals. However in this case, the manager may have tried the respectful route many times, and finally lost his temper. None of us here witnessed the interaction at the store, so we truly cannot judge what actually went down. And having boyfriends (or girlfriends) loitering can also be a huge liability issue for the company.

Load More Replies...In Sam's opinion, it seems like more and more employees are unwilling to "put in their dues" before reaching the corner office. They want massive progress without the grind. "This may be perhaps due to the internet, social media, and how quickly information is disseminated. When you see someone on social media get super-rich quickly, you start feeling the same way too," the expert stressed.
"However, I believe for most people, the secret to their success is unwavering commitment. If you can do something well consistently for 10+ years, you will likely be set for life! However, patience is required. Just know that if the direction is correct, sooner or later you will get there."
The job industry is very different when you compare things to the last few decades. The spread of new technologies like the internet have completely changed how people work and the information they have access to. That’s not to say that fast-food restaurants or retail shops are going to become obsolete, but generally speaking, workers are now more aware of what work conditions others have, how the rich are living, and when they’re being exploited. There’s a world of workplace advice at your fingertips.
The Audacity To Have This Up In A Workplace
The math is so wrong! Two sick days are taking away 2 of this "so called day", instead of taking away 16 work hours. This is ridiculously stupid. (And, terrible)
Let's start with the first assault on math: the difference between days (24 hours) and work days (8 hours)
Load More Replies...This is a very old joke. I first read it in a book written in the 1950s. In that version, which was based on British workers, they actually rigged the maths so they got 366 days a year off. That was why the boss loved leap years because he broke even.
Tell me why I read the entire thing somehow captivated 😐
Wow, thanks! For that day I pick ........six weeks from next Tuesday...no 8 weeks from next Monday.... then I'll see you next year!
Eat And Get Laid Off. Snitches Get $20
Heh... it also sounds like a legal concern. Bring it on "boss". Stop me from eating. I dare you. Guaranteed this has been posted in a place that serves food, and expects their employees to be on their feet for at least 8 hours without a break.
Load More Replies...I can think of a dozen scenarios where this would be a valid request ( for example assembly line in a dust free environment like chip manufacture, food prep or food factory etc), so it's hard to be critical without background.
The rule may be reasonable, but the disrespectful tone and the $20 for snitches aren't.
Load More Replies...So no lunch break? In an 8 hour shift, you’re supposed to have—-at minimum—-two 15 minute breaks (one mid-morning and one mid-afternoon), plus a lunch break of at least 30 minutes, during all of which you are allowed to eat, at least in the e ployee break room if not at your desk. This employer is breaking the law. All of these signs, along with any other written correspondence, should be put together in a file, and dropped on the desk of a local labor lawyer.
Depends on what state you are in. My state doesn't have a law for this.
Load More Replies...So.. Everybody take turns 'getting caught' twice and each collect $40 bonus pay?
It's hard to say about this one (well, paying snitches is reprehensible) without more information. It could be that employees are serving food or required to talk all the time, and not eating would be a reasonable request. If employees are working 8 hour shifts, and this is in the US, not allowing employees to eat during that time would be illegal in most places, as breaks are mandated by most employers. I don't think the author is a native English speaker based on the writing and structure... 'laid off' usually means you are no longer working because of a change in the business, not the employee's fault. Being caught eating would mean you were terminated for cause.
There are very few mandated breaks in the US. I'm my state only those under18 have state mandated breaks. Breaks are customary only because of unions.

I mean, harsh, but not wrong. If you know of someone's triggers, be considerate and respectful at all costs... But everyone you meet can't have pre-existing knowledge of your personal traumas and triggers.
Actual triggers aren't what people mean when they say it these days. Real triggers are things that activate a strong past trauma response like a soldier's PTSD from hearing a sudden loud noise.
THIS!!! So many people have co-opted 'triggers', similar to how they've misconstrued OCD & ADHD. It really makes me hate humans.
Load More Replies...This one isn’t wrong , I should put this on my door before family members enter the house too
Yes and, I didn't know there could be more than one "today"
Load More Replies...so: first of all, so many people these days are pretending they are 'triggered' by something, when they really are not. it's annoying, and can sometimes harm the people who are actually triggered by things. if you are triggered by something TRULY, it's NOT their responsibility to handle. people can't control what they can and can't hear, so it's best to simply warn the people around them so they don't trigger them. if someone isn't careful enough and does trigger things, it can usually end up pretty bad, as a lot of triggers are because of extremely traumatic things. BUT: I will say this: if this is in a hospital, they shouldn't be hiring people with bad, traumatic triggers, because it would be pretty easy to trigger them with all the hospital patients. this does not mean, however, that they should be hanging this sign up here, it's pretty rude.
Bored Panda recently spoke about communication at work, quitting, and how to handle difficult bosses with workplace expert and author Lynn Taylor. She stressed that employees should try to be as diplomatic as they can, while at the same time drawing a line in the sand when it comes to bullying and outright disrespect.
“The best way to quit is to think about how you want to be remembered. Every industry in a given city has a relatively small network of good people. We have all heard 'it’s a small world' and the '6 degrees of separation.' As satisfying as it feels to 'put a bad boss in their place' upon departure, leave those fantasies in your mind,” Lynn explained to us during a recent exclusive interview that restraint is a very powerful tool in a worker’s arsenal.
“You never want to burn your bridges or get a reputation for being a troublemaker. It will get around and hurt your career," the workplace expert pointed out that an employee’s reputation follows them for years to come. Especially if it’s a niche industry.
"Your best bet is to thank your boss for the opportunity at the company and limit the number of negative comments you offer. It is unlikely to change behavior in a significant way. Be glad that you’ve decided to take the difficult step of moving on," the expert said that a bit of gratitude might be better than brutal honesty. In some cases. However, this doesn’t mean that you should bend over and grovel at your boss’ feet every time they walk by.

Don't Let These Businesses Gaslight You. They've Taken More "Handouts" Than Any One Of Us Will Ever Receive

$1,200 in April 2020. $600 in December 2020/January 2021. $1,400 in March 2021. Yeah, that must have been enough for workers to never need a job again...
Sorry, it's been long enough that the handouts aren't the reason. A lot of people just now see they have better options than they did in the past. The swing in favor of workers was just a little more drastically quick than it would have been under normal circumstances.
It's funny how bosses thought we could live off handouts for the rest of our lives so we would quit jobs.
This is not unique to this bar or business. These have popped up in a lot of places.
"Very few people want to engage in lawsuits against a bully boss, for example, unless they feel they it will most certainly be a win. When in doubt, of course, you should always consult an employment attorney. And while the idea can be tempting, you may want to place more of your energy in your next, better job—or career pursuit,” Lynn stressed that employees ought to consider where their time, energy, and nerves are best spent.

Load More Replies...So basically, the company expects employees to sign away their rights to a fair AND SAFE workplace, so they can cover their asses for their shitty treatment of their employees and their blatant violations of safety laws (#5 on their hit parade). No 6? Will you be paying me for the extra time by showing up early and staying late, that will undoubtedly add up to at least 2hrs by the end of the week, so an 8hrs a month, or 96hrs a year, or 12 days based on an 8hr work day a year??
The fact that they think those things make you a better employee is laughable. Someone can work all the hours in the world, suck up to the boss all day, and still not have their work done by the end of the day. Meanwhile, the person getting it all done, and done right, between 8.30 and 5 goes unnoticed. I hope this woman turned the job down and never signed this.

This is awful, but when I still went into the office every day, we had a guy who would go stand in the hall and talk on his phone for half an hour, then go on break, then go into the bathroom for an hour or so, and work about half an hour until lunch. Maybe this place has someone like him. Still, I wouldn't work at a place that timed my bathroom breaks.
They may be aiming at a person like him and will discreetly ignore other occasional bathroom breaks of longer than 5 minutes.
Load More Replies...You cannot control someone’s need of a bathroom break. It takes as long as it takes. Now, if someone comes out of the bathroom acting weird, like they just shot up in there, then you have cause for concern. Otherwise, stay the f**k out of my bodily functions, a*****e.
I recognize many job seekers are unemployed and therefore very anxious to start work as soon as they can, so please infer zero judgment when you read this, but when applying for a job, please note your surroundings. You don't have to work for assholes.
When communicating with management, it’s good to lay the groundwork and do a bit of preparation. "Know your objective. If you’re acting defensively, that won’t move the needle on enhancing your relationship. Think about how you would react as the recipient," the expert advised.
She gave Bored Panda an example of how employees could broach certain concerns with their boss using the ‘positive bookends’ approach.
About A Year Ago I Got Let Go Of My Job And Decided To Hussle Making Music, This Is The Second Time My Ex-Boss Tries To Have Me Mention Him In A 'Media Opportunity'
I don't even know what to say about this...it's probably the most delusional thing I've ever read!
I know what to say. “F**k you, ex-boss. You blew your opportunity for any good will from me.” That’s what to say about this.

"You also get paid on how many streams you get.", clearly doesn't know the rate for this.

Alex Had Enough
One person and they shut the whole thing down? I wish I had that kind of power.
So basically, Alex was the only employees in the store, and got fed up with having to do the job of two or three people,, so walked out? Totally 100% justified in doing so. Since you decided to treat Alex in such a shitty manner, as well as not pay him what he’s worth, you will now make ZERO money until you can hire and train a replacement—-unless YOU, as the boss, step in and run things until that happens. Which we all know is not ever going to happen. A*****e.
If one employee leaving shuts a business down that is entirely management's fault.
Alex must have been one heck of an asset if his abrupt departure forced the place to close. Kudos, Alex.
Seeing it seems he was their ONLY worker...id say yes

If the shorts are dress code approved, why are they trying to extort money from employees?
They're copying the "jeans day" trend in schools. Pay $5 and wear jeans on Friday. Money goes to a charity.

Load More Replies...Nope! I thought we settled this with casual Friday donations. 9th Circuit upheld that you can take donations for wearing clothes outside of standard or uniform, but you cannot charge or fine for doing so.
If wearing them isn't a problem - and clearly it isn't, if you can buy the privilege - then you shouldn't have to pay for it. Period. Either it's okay or it's not.
One way to communicate work issues to your manager or boss might be to use so-called ‘positive bookends’ (aka the criticism sandwich approach). You could try something like this: "'I really enjoy my job, but there’s something that set me back a bit recently.' Enter: your beef. Wrap with: 'Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to me… I very much appreciate your efforts in trying to work better together.'"
The best things that employees can do when they’re speaking to management is to communicate as clearly as they can, anticipate any problems that might come up, use a bit of humor if applicable, and present themselves as problem solvers, not problem causers.
In Case You Would Like To Know What It’s Like Working At Starbucks
Do not get to know me, just make me a coffee thank you. Having said that my local cafe baristas DO know me, but that's just because i'm in there a lot and we like to talk s**t.
I do not need to develop a relationship with every one I meet. For a cafe to be warm and welcoming, I'd like a smile, a greeting, and my order to be made quickly. The tables should be cleared and clean, and any music should be low. I most definitely don't need to get to know everyone working in a cafe. If I'm visiting the cafe on a regular basis, I will get to know the people working there. It's organic, and can't be forced without feeling terribly intrusive and manipulative.

Yikes! CorpSpeak alert! This is an HR tour de force... and why are "partners" required to find their own coverage? Normally that is a management responsibility, but maybe that's why they call them "partners" instead of employees.
Ugh, it's so creepy when workplaces do this. Cults do that crap. Using coded language just masks the truth of what's going on and being said and it creates a false sense of superiority among those who know the lingo vs those who don't.

Load More Replies...I am so damned sick and tired of reading how American bosses treat their employees with regard to sick and personal days. Americans work longer hours, more hours per week, for less pay and practically no paid time off or vacation days compared to their European counterparts. The "job creators" continue to receive all the handouts and legal protections to treat their employees like s**t and then want to b***h and complain when employees finally realize the value of their labor (and of themselves, as humans) and walk the hell off the job. In 1965, CEO pay ratio was 20 to 1. Today, it is 350 to 1, while wages for the rest of us have stagnated for decades. When will this unsustainable system finally break?!

Reedsmith A Corporate Law Firm For Activision Posted This As A Note Which They Keep Around The Offices. A Local Game Union Printed It On Mousepads And Now Gives Them Out As A Reminder Of How They See Union Employees
It's a lawfirm that works for Activision. This kind of crap does not surprise me in the slightest given Activision's reputation.
Oh that's going to make everyone feel valued and motivate them. 🙄
Unions can be exploitative, just like anything else, but they're a necessity unless you want people meat in your hotdogs and slaves making your vehicles.
You would think lawyers would understand that employee intimidation is workplace harassment that creates a hostile environment. Just sayin 🤦
...exploit them for what? How would that serve the union to see a business to the ground? They wouldn't get paid either. Even unions think business properity is a must, just not at the cost of abusing employees for board's profit.
Lynn noted that employees who consistently face overtime can appeal to their boss’ reason in such a way: “For example, if your supervisor says you need to do A, B, and C by tomorrow, diplomatically explain that it will hurt all projects to get them done the next day because (then explain very briefly what’s involved or the potential negative outcomes). Then explain the positives of an alternative approach, such as, 'If I focus on 'project A' today, we will likely land the Smith account.'"

According to workplace expert Lynn, bad bosses can be compared to toddlers. As such, you can use positive and negative reinforcement to manage your managers.
"It makes you realize that badly behaving bosses are very much like angry toddlers, especially when are either stressed or frustrated. All mortal beings can act out when we are pushed to the limit. When you know where the boss is coming from, such as the stock plummeting 5% that day, your approach will be more effective," Lynn said.
At Work - Where Water Isn’t Free Yo
This looks ridiculous, but without more info it's hard to tell... is it purchased by a group of employees for their own use, or is this the employer charging employees? If it's the latter, that's pretty cheesy... it should be part of the cost of doing business.
It’s the latter. I would recommend NOT buying into it. You have no way of knowing if that dispenser was ever thoroughly—-hell, even half-assed—-cleaned. There could be any kind of slimy muck festering in those hoses and spigots. Yuck. Bring your own water to work. It’s cheaper (you can buy a case of water for less than $5, and Walmart sells gallon jugs for 64 cents) and way less hazardous to your health.
Load More Replies...When this happens, it usually employees pooling their own contributions to have water delivered, without anything to do with the employer. Of course you should not steal from your colleagues. The free water is from the water fountain or kitchen.
Well, if your service is Poland Spring, which belongs to Nestle's, you should already be accustomed to water provided through theft.
If this is in the US, and there is no other source of free water, it's illegal.

Of course, employees shouldn’t ever be patronizing, as this could harm their careers. "Just know that human nature is, at its core, no different at five or 55," the expert told Bored Panda. "Looking at a difficult boss through the lens of a parent can be useful in another way. Humor is a good way to view tough situations more objectively: 'Johnny is having a bad day. And it’s 11:30 AM, so I should not go in there, as he is hungry.' This assumes that the bad behavior is episodic and not a pattern. Nobody should ever tolerate toxic behavior,” she stressed that there have to be clear boundaries.
"Most bad bosses can be charmers a lot of the time, but then act out unexpectedly, occasionally and seemingly for no reason."

Wait... I paid for it and still can't take it home? What am I supposed to do with leftover break food? How is throwing good food away helping the bottom line?
I think they can write it off as a loss. But why not just write it off and decide to close your eyes—-and mouth—-about it’s disposal? It’s called “plausible deniability” if you’re ever questioned. I Work For A Multibillion Dollar Corporation. Which Of Us Is Actually Stealing Time?
I am pretty sure this is Walmart... there is a book titled 'Nickeled and Dimed" that discusses minimum wage jobs; time theft at wally world was a whole chapter.
Well boss, time theft works both ways. If I’m supposed to clock in early enough to do all that stuff BEFORE my shift begins, yet you expect me to work all the way to the end of my scheduled time, you f*****g well better pay me for every second extra I had to work to do that. Same goes for anything you ask me to do off the clock. And that’s time and a half, btw, not regular time. Deal? If not, then I’ll find a good labor lawyer and you’ll end up being the reason the company has to retroactively compensate every employees for overtime they didn’t get paid for when they should’ve been, plus extra for the resulting hardships it caused. Don’t forget, if the company is big and the problem is company-wide, then the lawsuit becomes a class action. Class action lawsuits are really expensive for the companies they’re filed against, even if they settle out of court. And it would be all YOUR fault. Think your bosses would be happy with you for being the catalyst for it? Think again.
I do all those things, get out on the sales floor, and think of nothing else all day except going home. Is that a whole day of time clock fraud?
I’ve always been of the opinion you should be getting paid the minute you leave the house for work.

I actually don't see the issue with this one, as long as you aren't expected to work off the clock.
Then f*****g pay me the entire 25 minutes of overtime I earn every week by clocking in five minutes early every day. If you don’t, that’s what’s known as time theft by an employer—-yeah, it works both ways, boss. Plus, I will clock out at the precise time my shift is supposed to end, regardless of where I am with my duties. If you want me to stay and finish, then f*****g pay me overtime for that too. Deal?
Being required to clock-in does imply that the worker would be paid. It's usually "off the clock" work that doesn't get paid. It's much easier and more common for time theft to happen at jobs that don't have a time clock. The time clock acts as a record and makes it easier for the employee to check their hours and make sure they were paid correctly.

My Project Management And Human Resources Slides... Yeah Thas What We Are Searching For...
Oh dear. Yes, we're all desperately seeking connection to the company's mission, values and culture instead of actual money.
To be fair, it is commonly assumed that millennials are more likely than previous generations to quit their job - or not apply in the first place - based on a company's morals. I don't have numbers to back it up, but anecdotally it appears to be true. This slide isn't *necessarily* saying that the company can/should pay less, so much as that if the company wants to attract & retain young workers (as opposed to hiring only boomers) then they need to have a solid value system.
Load More Replies...I’m 61, and have always asked my employers to do everything on this supposed Millennials’ list—-which is just a list of reasonable expectations of fair and equitable behavior out of an employer, in exchange for an employee’s time and efforts to produce quality work. It’s merely the way it should’ve been all along! Shouldn’t be a surprise, and shouldn’t be that damned difficult to understand and implement, company-wide, ffs. The majority didn’t, so I left them for better jobs—-and usually tried to arrange it to leave them in the lurch for something important, to show them what they lost by chasing me away.
I read this in an article a couple of months ago. I'm Gen Z and my boss is a Boomer. He wants to hire younger people and so we're doing a lot of work on what makes them stick around in an organisation. I think my boss is great, because he's really committed to cultural change in our company so that we can have a diverse workforce that actually WANTS to work with us. But this Millennial and Gen Z workforce has got us stumped! The ones that we've hired have either all been fired before their probationary period has elapsed, or they've just left because (usually) the work is too hard. We are predominantly a 9 to 5 company, so the majority of people are not overloaded with work; only the ones that get paid the big bucks are supposed to do overtime as a matter of course. The younger people we've hired just don't seem to want to do any work at all - they even say that! You ask them to do something and they'll either say "that's not in my job description" or "no, I don't want to do that". Then a couple of hours later, they'll ask you for a meeting and come prepared with every argument in the world as to why their title should be changed to include the word "Manager", but they won't actually agree to take on management tasks to align with that title. I've been told "no, sorry, I'm too tired" more times than I can count and am expected to just ignore this and let them laze around in our comfy staff meeting area (sofas, tv, awesome coffee machine etc.) Neither my boss nor I have any idea where to go from here!
How dear they look for things like meaningful work and have values and want a good company culture!? It's almost like people are getting tired of being used as workhorses while the rich get richer and everyone else is robbing Peter to pay Paul. What terrible people.
Well, maybe make 40yrs of loyal service worth more than our job postings being posted 6months before we actually retire (if we get to) & maybe a cake in the lunchroom...

So much yes! I had a job where my boss never thanked me for anything. It was demoralizing.

My workplace forced everyone to work a mandatory 56 hour work week. The money was nice, but then everyone began having health problems, and finally, after years of begging from employees, they hired people to just work on weekends and give the rest of us a break.
Better f*****g be paid at time and a half, and not regular time. Hell, time and a half up to X number of additional hours, and double time after that (like regular time up to 40, time and a half from 40 to 50, and double time over 50). You want the extra hours from everybody, then you f*****g well better pay them for it! Otherwise, the suits will have to roll up the sleeves of their designer suits and work the line to fill in for the mass of employees who quit.
I’ve heard of mandatory overtime in certain sectors, but have never been mandated myself. Seems sketch, but maybe it’s not illegal?
I guess if you get paid for it, it's legal. But I don't agree with it being mandatory. Lots of people really want to do overtime for the extra money, but there are those who don't want to and they shouldn't be forced.
Load More Replies...No, this is not legal, unless you were hired with these terms already as part of your expected work. 12 hours is usually the maximum shift because you legally must have 12 hours off between shifts. Seriously why don't they hire for the extra shift, I would have loved this in uni only work nights on weekends.
In Ontario, this is not legal. Contact employment standards Ontario, labour board only deals with appeals, so don't waste your time trying to reach them and get an answer, some complaints are time sensitive, you'll run out of time if you try to get through the labour board on this.
Sounds more like conservatives/right wing business is more important than people.

No Time Off For Anything Family Or Holiday Related
Lots of places do this. My job made us request all our time off months ahead of time, and holiday time off was a lottery sort of deal. There was no reason at all we couldn't have closed for the week between Christmas and New Year... we never had anything to do anyway.
My company closes for around 2 weeks at Christmas and New Year and we have to take the non-public holidays out of our annual leave balance. I resent that a bit, because I'd rather go on hols in a non-school holidays time of year. Instead, I can lose up to five days annual leave. Probably the only thing I hate about where I work though, so I shouldn't complain!!
Load More Replies...i thought that said no days off from the 12th of december to the 1st of august... why do americans (idk if other countries do it) put the dates that way?
Why do you not? And it indicates January, so basically no one can have days off for the holidays.

These Were Put Up In The Women's Employee Restroom In A Print Shop. Thoughts?
I had to wipe partially dried blood off a toilet seat at a library this past week before I used the toilet. If people would clean up after themselves, nobody would feel the need to write these wordy cutesy notes. If a note is necessary, how about, "Clean up after yourself, please."
Having worked in food for years and having to clean many bathrooms, I can say, women are WAY more disgusting than men.
Load More Replies...Hate to say it, but I’ve worked at more than one company where the office had what I called a “Mad Mystery Pooper” who apparently refused to flush. That is f*****g disgusting behavior, so my guess is that the note has appeared because all the other efforts to curb that kind of unsanitary and disrespectful habit have failed, and they’re at the end of their rope—-and their patience.
We do have a bathroom sign at work telling people to not flush the brown paper towels in the toilet. Did you know when those things get wet they stick together and solidify into a cement like substance? Our facilities manager had to basically chip it out of the pipe. He was not happy and I cannot blame him.
Very American posts, sadly. As a European (Swede), these signs are very hard to understand.
I’m not sure if this is limited to the US but as a fellow swede, I couldn’t agree more to the last part. This kind of horrific shìt hasn’t been allowed for the last two hundred years. I feel horrible for people who has to live this utter crāp. We lucked out when it comes to this, big, big time.
Load More Replies...I urge you all to take an hour or so and look up federal/country and state/local wage, labor, and employment laws. You may be entitled to more than you are being given, and your employers may be violating labor laws. And check to see if there is legislation protecting whistleblowers so you can report violations without being retaliated against.
Yes!...EVERYONE! DO! THIS! A-hole employers will get away with anything if you let them, illegal or not. And document everything. If it isn't in writing, it never happened. Break and downtime laws are usually made at the state level, so check those too.

Unhappy people got rid off these. Go find a better place to work if possible. Nobody deserves a bad job, nobody ows anything to a company beside doing the job being hired and paid. Worker rights are a good way to have better work environments.
As a (small department) manager in Europe this is dystopic. I as every member of my team: - 30 days flexible holiday. - half a day of on your birthday, Christmas, new years eve - so you don't need a whole day of your holidays. -3 days if for personal development, 500€ budget and a catalogue of great courses for free -spend holidays or working days in our capital hotel or on our farm for free, including meals, if you like with your family. - as many sick days as you need. And:two bonuses per year for everyone. The posts above reads like modern slavery.
Before the pandemic, I wanted to move to the USA. However, when I read about how employees are treated, what is happening on the real estate market, as well as in politics, I prefer to stick to the pathologies of my country that are known to me.
It depends on what work you're going to do after immigrating. The US is a good place for those with money.
Load More Replies...And people are still working in those places? I worked in small companies, big ones and international corporation, but never ever accepted any kind of shity things, not even close to these. Don't accept any s**t. You have one life. Live it, don't waste it for others!
Wow. I am a retired teacher from a great district. I get why so many people are leaving their jobs. Some companies are toxic.
