Deer Walks Into Store To Check Their Goods, Comes Back Later With Her Kids

It’s a busy time of year for many shops with Christmas just around the corner. This small gift shop in Fort Collins, Colorado got some rather unexpected customers however.

Lori Jones was working her usual shift at the shop, part of the Horsetooth Inn and RV Park, when a young doe casually walked in as if on a mission to pick out some gifts for her family. “It was hilarious,” Lori told The Dodo. “She was looking at the sunglasses and the chips. I was laughing so hard.”

Having perused the goods on offer, the doe was lured out of the store by Lori using something tasty. But that wasn’t to be the end of it. “About 30 minutes later, here comes the deer again with her whole family.”

Well raised as they are, the children waited outside patiently. “They were just looking in the doorway like, ‘Can we come in too?’ I said, No! It was so funny.”

Eventually Lori managed to lure the curious family away from her store, but not before snapping some incredible close up pics with her phone. While there is plenty of wildlife around this beautiful area at the foot of the Rockies with mountain lions, bighorn sheep, deer and raccoons amongst others, this was an unusually close encounter!

I live right by there and sadly the people in that area (not the store) feed the deer so they are too tame. Animal control keeps issuing warnings but to no avail. It is dangerous for the deer, can cause the spread of diseases between the deer and is against the law in Colorado. The deer are naturally curious but this happened because the deer have become too tame from being fed. Cute but that is the rest of the story.

If only humans didn't multiply like cockroaches the deers and all the rest of forest animals could live in peace.

Why am I always so negative and worry about them now? I hope they don't think all humans are this nice, for their own sake. This is lovely and I would have fainted with excitement had this happened to me. They are so cute and cheeky. Sigh.

So cute! It reminds me of the way koalas sometimes wander into shops/down the street/into emergency rooms in Australia.

I love the pictures. I live in Maine in "the sticks" and the other morning I was having a coffee and watching the news when I heard a thump outside. I spit my coffee all over the table when I looked and two feet away was a deer looking in my window.

I live on Fort Carson - also in Colorado - and as I was driving to a meeting last Sunday morning, a three young does walked casually across a neighborhood road right in front of me. Just as if they were walking home from church! I love the intimacy with nature we enjoy here. <3

I would have started cutting up apples to give to them. Surely they would have come back for more since they are used to being fed.

I live in a place with lots of deer. Yep, they carry disease in the form of ticks which may carry one of the rickettsial illnesses (and Dopethrone, you don't have to hunt them to pick up a tick), but I still think them one of the prettiest and most graceful of animals.

Humans are more dangerous than any wild animal still living on this blue planet. Animals don't make chemical weapons, don't dump the garbage where it pleases them, don't destroy everyday hundreds of football fields of rainforests to plant palm trees for their horrible food oil, don't make H bombs, and any they are the first to wiped out by the supreme stupid egocentered naked humans.
