How some people react to the fact that women menstruate can sometimes make you think that we’re living in the Dark Ages. And one dad took the cake when it came to making the internet lose it with how backward his thinking is.

A dad asked the ‘AITA’ community over on Reddit if he was in the wrong for making his daughter do extra chores because he has to “spend extra” on her each month because of her periods. Let me repeat that: this dad makes his teenage daughter do chores as a way to ‘pay him back’ because he spends additional money each month on her because of her biology.

You’ll find the dad’s full post below, dear Pandas. Spoiler warning: it’s so unfair, you might just spend a minute or two staring blankly at the screen, wondering how people like this can exist.

RELATED:

A dad infuriated the internet when he shared how he makes his daughter do chores around the house in exchange for menstrual products

What adds an extra layer of unfairness to the whole circus of a situation is that this dad doesn’t make his son do any chores. Even though he spends a ton of extra money on his son’s extracurricular activities.

The dad has an overly pragmatic, utilitarian, and you could say even robotic view of his family members: he looks at his relationship with them in purely economic terms. He believes that his son has a better chance of getting a college scholarship, so he invests more money into him and doesn’t want him to ‘waste’ his time doing chores.

Meanwhile, he thinks that his daughter’s extracurricular activities are “just a hobby” and he doesn’t think that they’ll go anywhere.

What’s more, when his daughter rebelled and said that she won’t be doing any chores anymore because it isn’t fair, her dad called her a brat, causing her to run away and live with her aunt. The dad was furious that his siblings were “coddling her” and supporting her.

Reddit was furious with the entire situation. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking your kids to pitch in around the house, but to make it conditional and withholding menstruation products is just downright wrong. One redditor hit the nail on the head when they said that the father was “pink taxing” his daughter’s entire existence and turned her into an indentured servant.

Period-shaming, unfortunately, is far more common than you’d think the modern world would allow for. For instance, one study found that a whopping 42 percent of American women have experienced period-shaming while 58 percent said that they felt embarrassed for even being on their period at all. It’s a natural part of life, but how some parts of society react to it is devastating.

Here’s how people reacted to the story. Like you probably expected, people were dumbstruck by the unfairness of it all

Yeah no... The fact that he says that his sons curriculum can get him into college and hers is just a hobby already tells me that he's the type of guy who calls an engineer Hotline and if he hears a woman says "Can I speak to a man please?"

That scenario reminds me of a friend of mine, she runs a local Tires & Auto Repair and one time a dude came in to get his car fixed and my friend greets him and stuff until he says "Can I get a guy to fix my car, it's not that I'm sexist or anything, I just think they might have some more experience." (My friend ran the place as mentioned earlier and was the MOST experienced, which she explains) but he insists on a guy. My friend got fed up and explained that either SHE was gonna fix his car or HE was gonna find another place. AND HE LEFT. He f*****g left rather than let a girl fix his car.

    1. If you have children, it is your responsibility to give them all the supplies they need (including pads for girls). 3. Your kids don't owe you for raising them. 2. Teenagers of both sexes need to learn how to run a household, so both should do chores equally. 4. Sports are not more important than music.

"Your kids don't owe you for raising them" this exactly. If its HIM that got her into this world in the first place, its on HIM to provide her with what she needs.

Wow. Sounds like my ex-husband. It was my fault for being a woman. As well as being pregnant, that was my fault apparently. AND with TWINS! That was my fault too, and my fault for being sick for months, so he couldn't help me apparently. Now he has four teenage daughters and he pays... absolutely f*** all for anything for them. Thankfully they're all with me, 14,000 km from him, and they all think he's a f***assheadhole.

Actually, they can call CPS on you because what you are doing is called psychological and emotional abuse. You are basically punishing your daughter for being a girl. I say that seriously can mess a person up. You are definitely the AH. Sad part about it for you is I think your son realizes it too. I can't see him supporting you on this.

YTA - a big one too. The world already punishes your daughter enough for being a woman - she will earn less (at least 18%!) than her male counterparts, the world is simply more dangerous for her, she will more than likely be sexually harassed (81% of women) if not assaulted (1 in 5 women), she will have to pay more for her personal hygiene products for no reason whatsoever except pink packaging and cursive writing, not to mention women also spend more in health insurance and healthcare, she is underrepresented in government, and I could go on... all of these are FACT CHECKED btw. So, how about you teach your daughter she deserves equality by splitting chores between her and her brother? But you're probably too far gone so I can just hope your daughter stays with your sister for good.

Why it is so hard to remember A womAn = one single womAn, womEn = more than one womAn = many womEn. Same goes for the word man: a mAn = one single mAn, mEn = more than one mAn = many mEn. At least it's not A WOMENS, but maybe soon will become, people has no idea what the ''a'' in front of words stands for.

Side note: this actually happened to me - one of my daughter's friend started her period while sitting on our couch. She was upset/embarrassed, we were supportive/kind, but we definitely had to do some deep cleaning.

what a piece of work the Dad is! Firstly he chose to have kids with his wife therefore he has to provide for them til they are grown. Having a period is something any sane person knows can’t be helped & using it as a punishment on his daughter is borderline abuse. So she’s to bleed for about a week because she didn’t sweep the floor. Both Dad & son are just as able bodied & live there too so yeah pitch in. Reminds me of my office, they made the junior who was always a young girl make the teas & coffees but the other junior was a male & never asked because “he was a guy.”

It saddens and sickens me that people like this exist. Because now he is breeding and teaching his kid's to be this way. Which will only carry on to the next generation and so forth and so on. It's just sad that people teach their kid's to be this way and they instinctively behave the same way. It's a vicious cycle that never stops.

yes, definitely the a-hole. but, i have some questions: she cleans shared living spaces; why doesn't everyone clean after themselves? re monthly supplies, does the son not use deodorant, toilet paper, soap as those are 'monthly supplies' as well? since it seems dad provides for all of son's needs, are condoms included? if so, that is also a 'personal' supply. and, it is good to know that the son also thinks his dad is being an a-hole, not that it would change his behavior. as for being abusive-not really. but, most definitely sexist. if i were the kids i would conspire w/each other to take care of their own things and let dad deal with his own stuff. sounds like dad just wants to be taken care of as he was before his wife passed and the daughter is just convenient.

Considering it's female children who take care of aging parents -- she will remember this and not be around. Son will marry — he will not help you. Karma has pay back for good and bad behavior. When you are alone staring out a window in a hospital or old folks home, they will not hate you — they won’t even think about you. You don't deserve children, especially females.

Um even if the daughter's extracurricular activities were "just a hobby" (they're not) his son's going to college is not as important as her getting monthly supplies she needs. YTA all the way.

YTA, congratulations. I not sure why everyone is mad and yelling at you! Good for you for teaching your daughter hard work ethics, sense of her worth, and responsibilities. You also are teaching her a valuable lesson about trust and accountability. She will grow up knowing that because of you she will be strong, independent. I appreciate the message you instilled on her that she will NEVER DATE A man like like you. She will have compassion, and be blessed because she probably been dealing with your emotional abuse for years. Thank you for allowing her to have the strength to leave and will probably never come back. I am elated that you given her a voice to testify in the CPS case that is/was/will be filed on you. I call that extreme parenting. You have shown her what not to want and she will better without you! Thanks daddy!

If you go on AITA and end your post with "I'm not doing anything wrong," then you really just want validation, and you are in the wrong place. (Is it wrong in the context of needing a call to CPS? Probably not given just the facts above, but that doesn't mean he's a good dad, just that there are far too many out there who are SO MUCH worse.) Does his son use deodorant? Also a personal care product, and he might use more of it than his sister because of sports. Why is only she asked to work for some of her basic needs? Also, just... The man needs a brain adjustment. Starting by giving him one, I think his skull is currently filled with rotten cabbage.

But you're probably too far gone so I can just hope your daughter stays with your sister for good.

what a piece of work the Dad is!

It's just sad that people teach their kid's to be this way and they instinctively behave the same way. It's a vicious cycle that never stops.

This is an old story. I'm surprised it's circulating again. He's never gonna see her again when she turns 18

Thank God the girl has an uncle and aunt to live with. Also: Cleaning and cooking four times a week? Just how much does her dad think a few stupid packs of pads cost???

Is it completely lost on this guy that HIS SPERM is responsible for the child being a female, thus needing pads in the first place? So basically it's his fault she needs them.

This should not be real. If it is, this p.o.s. should be jailed. This isn't just bad parenting, it's illegal. In addition to the illegality, it is gruesome and abusive.
