Daughter Calls Her Mom “Fat”, And Mother’s Viral Response Sparks Heated Discussions

When Allison Kimmey told her kids it was time to go home from the pool, her daughter got so upset she told her brother ‘mama is fat’. Kimmey decided to teach them a lesson.

After coming back home, she asked her kids to come up for a talk. “The truth is, I am not fat,” she said. “No one IS fat. It’s not something you can BE. But I do HAVE fat. We ALL have fat. It protects our muscles and our bones and keeps our bodies going by providing us energy.” Kimmey went on teaching the kids that “fat is not a bad word in our house”. While Kimmey can’t control what goes on outside of her house and what kids hear at school, she is determined that in her household, they will not call people fat as an insult. “It is our job to continue to be the loudest, most accepting, positive and CONSISTENT voice they hear,” Kimmey said. Kimmey shared her story on Instagram and it has gone viral since, with over 32k likes.

OK let's be politically corect forever and denie the obvious truth because someone might get "offended".The lady is perhaps a great person,a good mother but her daughter was right. She's fat.Oh no,si has fat.A lot of fat.

Yes. But....she's still allowed to teach her children not to use it as an insult.

Like with most issues in this country, the truth is suppressed by shame, denial, and ignorance, all pulling the principle we settle on in many different directions. Truthfully, being overweight isn't healthy, and it isn't something that should just be treated incidental. On the other hand, labeling, judging, criticizing, and condemning people isn't right, and nobody should ever have to be accountable for how they look to anybody but themselves. This narrative of body shaming, though, and reactive tendency we have to glorify certain things in order to combat judgment isn't the best solution. I don't think any person should be inclined to view anything in a way that isn't natural to them...So long as they understand that others see things differently. In terms of obesity -- I don't see it as my place to judge at all. It isn't. And I don't. But I also don't pretend that it's inconsequential. In life, you should always look to better yourself and your health. Insecurities notwithstanding.

I agree. I don't think we should teach kids to judge and bully, but the opposite like this, pretending that everything and everyone is great and perfect, is also not okay. Kids shouldn't think of "fat" as an insult, or bully fat people for being fat, but they should be able to know that there are fat people and that obesity can be a huge health issue.... they might even be able to help someone who wants to lose weight at some point. It's not different, imo, from trying to convince everybody that everyone is beautiful and perfect and s**t... no, ugly people ARE a thing. And 1. they don't want compliments that they know are empty, they just want to not be treated badly for being ugly and 2. no amount of convincing yourself will make you see an ugly person as beautiful, it'll only make yourself feel bad because you know you still actually think they're ugly and you "shouldn't". We should teach kids to not treat others badly for having flaws, not that acknowledging said flaws is a sin.

The sad thing is, this little girl is growing pudgy as well. A child at that age should be leaner, if fed right and given enough movement. So maybe there's a general lack of awareness about food choices, and it's affecting the daughter as well.

I think she has a point. I agree that being overweight is unhealthy and dangerous but the word "fat" shouldn't be used to bully people. I've suffered from obesity during my teenage years and I was totally aware of my condition and trying to fight against it. The most difficult part was the constant bullying from my classmates. Being bullied for the only reason of being fat DOESN'T HELP people to lose weight, instead I was getting more and more depressed and I would eat more and more as a direct consequencence. So please, is not that if you say to your child to don't use the word "fat" as an offense, he/she will become automatically obese. BODY SHAMING DOESN'T HELP. (Sorry for crappy english)

The steroid meds I have to take for COPD have caused me to put on 15 lbs.Quitting smoking helped me with 5 of it. I don't gorge myself on food...I eat less than my 82 year old Mom who weighs 108 lbs. I have a treadmill I use faithfully. I've tried to walk distances but I have osteoporosis in my back which makes me stop every few minutes. I went on a healthy food diet, cut out sugars, no junk food, no desserts and was only consuming 1200 calories a day for 3 months and lost 4 pounds lol. So some of us aren't chubby by choice. Be kind. You don't know everyone's story.

1200 calories, while being midnful of proper nutrient intake, is a perfectly acceptable amount of calories to eat per day, in order to lose weight. Of you had done it for a year instead of giving up after 3 months, you would've lost nearly all the weight you said you had gained. Plus, you would've had markedly healthier Labs, like blood sugars & lipids, etc.

she's super-right, fat is not an insult. if you have a lot of fat, you will be called fat. and that's... a fa(c)t. some other thing this lady should be explaining her children is the definition of "unhealthy". i'm not suggesting she is leading an unhealthy life here, but all of the effort in explaining how "fat" is not an insult could be shared in showing how "having too much fat" can affect your life and health in a negative way.

There is nothing inevitable about someone being called fat. What if people learned to mind their own bodies and describe people according to the hundreds of other features that all people have? People can learn to be less prejudiced if they are not intellectually lazy.

Nope. If she were truly "comfortable in her own skin", she wouldn't be feeding her children lies about fat protecting their muscles, and pretending that adjectives versus nouns don't exist. While it's good to teach against cruel insults, the reality is that she denied to her children the truth -- that she is very overweight.

Oh brother!! I think it's so funny how everyone turns into a doctor/dietitian in comment sections of articles like these. "OH HANG ON! Let me tell you why just based on your appearance, i KNOW you are going to die from diabetes! But first, let me finish my bottle of wine and cigarette!" I am thankful to have been blessed with good genes that make it very easy for me to stay thin, so looking at me people think i'm healthy and active. GUESS WHAT? I'm actually pretty lazy, and although I don't eat meat, I DO eat tons of junk food, and also very much like wine. One of my best friends is a bigger person, but she runs about 4-5 times a weak and home cooks most of her meals, and has definitely made comments about how much butter/salt/cheese i put in my food! If we both went in for a check-up, i bet she would be in better overall health than me! Please stop the judging.

One thing is body shaming, and nobody should ever be bullied because of her/his body. Another is being aware of what obesity and malnutrition can cause in terms of health impact. So yes, if obesity is caused by wrong food choices like standard American diet, you should rethink your choices.

I do not believe in fat shaming anyone, & , I think some people can be quite cruel . Yet, we are a nation of overweight people, many of them not due to diabetes or other physical reasons, but, due to poor lifestyle choices. As a RN , I worked pediatrics for 3 years , &, our doctors would have had us graph & chart Kimmey as overweight. Will she lose this tummy as she gets older ? Maybe, but the odds aren't in her favor. Positive body images are important , but , so are the other healthy choices , that can improve you as a person.

Bonnie Gembey

Kimmey doesn't have to go on a diet to please you. Her daughter is too young to diet. This type of thinking is asinine. And never assume that because you are a health care professional, you don't have prejudice against larger people. Plenty do, based more on the myth that. Ring slim cures everything when it is only one potential indicator of health amongst many.

What does it matter? Those of us who have excess fat, know it. We all know the risks to our health. This is a beautiful woman, a beautiful mother. No one knows how long we will live, so just live your best life, be your best self. Work out and eat kale if that makes you feel good. But don't shame others for not taking the same path. We all do what we can do. Our destinies are not all determined by protein shakes. and going to the gym. Do you see what her priority is? Being outside with her children.

For all the posters hating on overweight Mum or the "that's not healthy" fat shamers.... Back stories of some of the people I know who have become overweight, Fem18 Hodgkins Lymphoma // Male19&27 Anti psychotic meds // Fem46 Depression after son killed // Fem37 Bipolar meds // Male36 back injury // Fem26 pregnancy diabetes // Fem23 thyroid // Fem34 raped>depression // The list goes on & on. Point is they were all "normal" & gained weight from a disease, treatment or trauma. They know overweight isn't ideal or healthy but have/had bigger problems that caused weight gain, many lost the weight gain after counselling, time, treatment, some probably never will because their ailment is life long (bipolar & schizophrenia) & the best treatment for their ailment literally causes weight gain as a side effect. WHO THE HELL are we to judge. Stop being such jerks!

As someone who was above average weight my entire life I never called myself fat or use the word fat when talking about a person's weight. Overweight yes, fat, no. I also taught my 3 children not everyone has an family life like they do, where access to good food every meal was a given,.that some families cannot afford fresh veg and fruit, meats. It is not always as clear as some people make it out to be. I believe most do better when they know better yet there will always be some who are happy to be as they are no matter what anyone else thinks.

I've been both slim and fat. I can tell you this: when I was thin, I was a hot mess, always dieting and never satisfied with my size. I was a size 7, weighed 130 pounds and was 5'6" tall. I gained weight with my daughter and never got back to a size 7. I was a size 10 for the next decade, then size 12-14 after that. I'm now a size 20. I no longer am a curvy woman since my waist is gone. I miss that hour glass figure that I once had, but you know what? At 68, I'm about 240 pounds and happy. I'm not saying that everyone would be, but my neurosis about weight is gone. I'm no longer competing for any beauty contest, chasing men or worried about winning a marathon. I'm a retired granny who has had many serious medical problems that added to my weight and fitness issues. But, I'm still standing. I'm still able to be me, with no excuses and I fully understand what this mom is trying to convey to her children. We all come in many shapes and colors as to all living things. And that's fine.

Well, when I'm thin, I'm pretty happy, in general. And when I'm fat, I'm a "hot mess". And most people prefer being leaner. Glad if you're happy, but it sounds like you're trying to enable other people's less healhful lifestyle choices.

Dear people who are talking about being politically correct, diabetes and heart attack, maybe she was a super thin person and pregnancy took a toll on her body, maybe she knows how she looks and she's trying to shed the extra pounds to be healthier, maybe she's got a hormone issue like thyroid which is a stumbling block in her journey. We don't know her full story, nonetheless she's put this little piece out for maybe not you but people like myself who need such a story to deal with problems like body dysmorphia! I'm fat. I have struggled all my life with ignorant Gits who try to shame me because I have extra weight. I have gone to drastic measures to lose weight. My thyroid is all shot to hell which makes losing weight Damn near impossible. I take several meds that cause weight gain. And I'm stressed out. I exercise, I watch how much I eat and guess what.... I'm still fat. Just when I start to feel good about myself image I hear some well meaning idiot say that I am an awful person who doesn't care about myself because I have extra tonnage. Well yay for you hypocritical Bitches. Many of the "skinny" people smoke and drink. But let a heavy person actually enjoy a meal? Can't have that. And we wonder why anorexia and bulimia run rampant. I have ruined my health trying to fit into what society thinks I should be.

The principle is correct, but trying to make herself look better by saying all of her fat is protective is not correct. She is implying being overweight is not a health concern so the kids grow up thinking being fat is normal, or worse, healthy. The others are right, another shameless 'look how wonderfully I parented, please tell me I'm a good mummy'. Simple fact for you that you can't seem to face - you are very overweight, possibly even life-threateningly. Your best response to your girl is to say 'yes, I am but it is a mean thing to say to someone and hurts their feelings, which is wrong. It is never polite to say something personal about another person to make them feel bad. I am going to work on my weight by changing my lifestyle and show you that you are right that I am unhealthy; I am going to show you how I become healthy again and get back to a good, healthy weight. I hope you follow the good example that I will set you and learn something important'.

Muscles do NOT need protection by fat. That is pure ignorance. Fascia cover muscle. Skin is our largest organ and skin protects us from external exposure. Our BRAINS need the most calories, and clearly the surplus adipose is not giving this mother a mental advantage. It's great to teach your child not to shame another person, but this isn't the way to teach them not to shame. Acceptance is about seeing differences in one another and realizing they're okay. What the mother did was say that there are no differences because we all have fat, whereas there is a difference between a healthy amount of fat and an unhealthy amount of fat.

you CAN be fat, like you can be gay. it's not the only part of your life. being fat isn't bad, it isn't always unhealthy, and this mom was correct to tell her kids that it's ok to be fat. we are giving eight year olds eating disorders. it's time to get rid of beauty standards. if you don't like the way someone looks, then don't look at them. if they're happy with their appearance, be happy for them. you don't have to bring people down because you don't agree with them. and that's the real problem with our country: we're so busy tearing each other down that we can't work towards a better future where we aren't debating whether someone is allowed to be fat around kids

Look, the fact is that people that are overweight are limited in what they can do physically beyond a certain point. I think the real point was missed. She called the mom fat to be mean after she wasn't getting what she wanted. That's not cool. Recognizing people are fat isn't bullying but using that against them to get what you want is just cruel.

Then, the mom should've said that, only. Just: don't be cruel, don't bully. But she didn't. Instead, the mom ALSO told her children selfish LIES about anatomy and physical health.

I understand the idea of teaching children not to insult people for their health condition. But c'mon, stop excusing yourself and denying that you ARE FAT. It's not obesity, it's fat. And the daughter is also fat. Please please please stop making things like being fat (just fat, not medically conditioned like thyroid problem, hormone theraphy etc) a good, common thing...

And in excusing I mean stop naming being fat something else than it is - I have fat vs. I'm fat... That's pushing your problem to a voidzone where it doesn't concern you directly... I don't know how to put it - stop renaming things to make them less hurting for the sake of making yourself feel better.

Who gives AF. Not all fat folks are diabetic or have heart disease. There are also plenty of "fit" people that die of massive coronaries. Regardless of all of this, on a long enough timeline everyones survival rate is ZERO. Anyone one on any given day could meet their maker from a million different causes. Our society gets more and more judgemental and superficial by the second. What is the point?

I think we've all missed the point, on this, she was amazing to turn it into a teachable moment. You are who YOU are, not by how you dress, what size you are, what you do for a living, or what you want to do when you grow up. You can BE racist, BE unforgiving, hateful, and even JUDGEMENTAL, or you could BE kind, BE honest, BE patient, BE understanding, BE love. At the end of the day that's who you are. My mother also, taught me that to sit there and judge someone because they are different, is wrong! So for me to sit there and read about how fat someone thinks she is, or how she is very wrong, for teaching her children this, they are sadly missing the point, we are doing the very thing she is trying to teach her children not to do. Instead of yelling at her children, punishing them she teaches them to see people as who they are, or could be, not what they have.

Not all overweight people can help being overweight some may have health issues and some may be on medication I eat healthily o have fruit and veg and I'm on way 2 much medication and I'm overweight did I ask to be no have i tried losing it yes for those who aren't overweight they should stop and think instead of shaming those that are overweight maybe stop and think you don't know what's going on with that person's life or their health and I won't go to a gym as an ex I had was taking the p**s out of an overweight lady who was on an exercise bike and he wanted me to go to the gym and I actually snapped at him and told him that's why most women like me won't go to a gym coz of men like him shaming women like me didn't last long after that

How about taking the insult out of the word by acknowledging it as fact? "Right. I'm fat. I know you said that to get back at me because you are mad but it's not going to work. Now get your hiney out of the pool and let's go." Then the lesson is we don't call people names to get our way or just because we are mad at them. Maybe even toss in a little consequence for name calling. Something like extra trash duty for talking trashy.

The kid is not stupid, she sees the obvious. When I was a little kid, I also thought my mom was fat, needs to lose weight and I told her. She replied, that she is fat because she gave birth to me and my sister. Then I checked photos - she was never fit, not even when she was a teenager. I was not stupid, I saw that she never exercises and smokes a lot. What an example is this to a child? You might not notice, but children are actually very much influenced by their parents look if you give them a good example, exersize, eat healthy and dress decently, it will make them happier and healthier when they grow up.

If labeling someone as "fat" is part of your internal dialogue, you need to reassess. #1. It's none of your business #2. You're embarrassing the woman who raised you #3. You're intellectually limited if that's what your brain does on it's free time

It is not ok to insult and criticize people because it wont change anything. Just shame them. But to teach kids that having too much fat is ok is false. It is dangerous to life to one's heart among other body parts. The mother needs to set a healthy example with her own body otherwise the kids will follow her into morbid obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

This is a terrible lesson. Better to teach kids that people come in lots of sizes for lots of reasons and we should respect everyone of every size, rather than trying to engage in word play. If her daughter called her brunette would she insist that she's not brunette, she just has brown hair? The perceived need to talk around the word reinforces the oppression and the idea that fat should be the voldemort of adjectives. https://danceswithfat.wordpress.com/2016/11/14/that-fat-and-fingernails-thing/

When does defensively affirming your own body confidence chill proactive communication and undermine your child's intellectual confidence? The daughter is just a kid and called it like she sees it. She was exercising her critical thinking skills - noting the differences between people. We can be pretty sure her observation wasn't something she picked up at home - where the majority of discrimination and hatred are learned. Mom should have just said, "You are right. I have a lot more fat than a healthy person does." All lessons taught.

That is how the English language is spoken as opposed to Latin languages (Spanish, French, Italian, etc...). In English we are our things, such as our feeling, mood or descriptive adjectives, such as tall, hungry, sad, pretty, mad, skinny or yes fat. In English we ARE those things, in other languages, people possess them. You would not say 'I am hungry', you would say literally, 'I have hunger', nor would you say 'I am fat', but more like you are in a state of fatness. Yes, she was making a point but she needs to pick a dictionary first and understand how our language is spoken.

The reason people are making a negative comment is because she chose to LIE to her children about a physical condition – being overweight. And that that protects muscles which is completely false. So, she publicly posted her own self-serving teachings at the expense of their children's health education, while telling her own child not to be selfish. Quite hypocritical.

Why do fat people want to justify their fatness by being in denial about its harmful side effects? it would help them and everybody else around them if they accepted the truth and did something about it. The first step to bringing a positive change is to accept that something is wrong. Being fat is not only unattractive it's unhealthy too and fat people should accept it and try not to delude themselves into thinking that it's okay to be fat.

You don't get an award for teaching your kid something. It's literally your job. Get over yourself. And she is fat. She's not ugly. She's very beautiful but she's fat. Fat is something you can be. She is teaching her children a dangerous lesson. Just because she's so small minded that she let a child hurt her feelings. She looks great and she may be healthy but she shouldn't encourage overeating (which is how you get fat) in her kids. And again. Stop posting on Facebook that you patented your own kid. It's your job.

Oh please. No child is going to be able to make that differentiation between the idea of 'being fat' and 'having fat.' It's simply a cop-out. Look, your child shouldn't say such things to their parents, especially out of malice. That being said, you are overweight enough that it should be a significant concern for you, health-wise.

I can't agree with this woman....no shaming here believe that 'cuz I am overweight myself since I had my son at an older age I've had a hard time losing the "baby fat"but I try to teach my young son that it is unhealthy to be overweight , it puts so much strain on our hearts & other organs as well as our joints. No matter how she wants to explain this away. There is nothing sexy about seeing someone with everything hanging out all over the place. yes, she should not feel less then or not beautiful 'cuz she is beautiful & doing her best but i don't think those teeny weeny bikinis are the best choice. Political correctness aside, define "fat" objectively in a way that doesn't include that woman. Her BMI appears to be well over 40, and that's the line for "morbidly obese". If a morbidly obese doesn't count as fat, then you're doing a Ministry of Truth trick and attempting to remove a word from the lexicon just to shape the minds of the proles. Also, remember that almost all of the mannerisms of a child that age came from the mother. So if the child is already calling names, that's likely because the mother does. Sounds like a bit of "Do as I say, not as I do" *shrug*

why do people assume skinny people are healthier than heavier ones??? and why do we assume larger ppl are lazy and eat like pigs and skinny ppl eat salads and work out,, all a crock of poo, everyone is diff, some large ppl work their butts off just to be the size they are, and their counterparts eat like hogs and dont gain an ounce... mom gave her kids a diff perspective to their attitude...

What are these people on about? Such hatred! She looks wonderful! And she's not teaching bad eating habits, she's teaching her child not to use the word as an insult which is amazing. So many small children bully kids chubbier than them because they've been taught that being fat is 'disgusting' or 'unhealthy' she looks pretty healthy to me, some people are just bigger than others.

It would have been more honest to say "yes I am fat but it's not okay to think less of me or treat me badly as a person." Teaching a child that there's nothing wrong with obesity sets a dangerous precedent for the child's choices about her own health and eating habits. Yes all people have fat, but after a certain point it is no longer healthy. Just like being too thin is unhealthy. She should make her child aware of the potential health risks while still teaching her not to be cruel or body shame based on someone's outward appearance. She tried, but she missed the mark.

I respect this Mom teaching her kids appropriate behavior and instilling respect and values. Nobody should be fat shamed, we have moments in life when we struggle with stress and lose control of our weight. But she needs to be objective and explain the downsides and risks of being overweight. Nobody likes to be told they are fat, it is not obviously something we enjoy, and Mom might be hypersensitive when it comes about her body image, but the girl should be guided towards a healthier style of life. I can see she is already plumpy, and strictly from a medical perspective, weight control needs to be addressed responsibly, especially when you see your daughter has a tendency for becoming overweight. Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, blood cloths are all serious risks for overweight people, and I am sure this Mom will not want her baby to ever be confronted with such challenges.

So are we telling the truth, or are we creating some parallel universe inhabited by unicorns and fairies and totally disconnected from the reality? The woman is overweight, and that's the truth, no matter how you put it. It's not "body shaming|", it's the TRUTH. Why lying? Why deceiving? I also have a few extra pounds - so big deal. I'm not going to make a drama out of it. But I also - and most definitely - will not pretend it's not true. What I am saying there is no need to warp the reality. It is what it is. As simple as that. It doesn't define what kind of person she is. It just reflects the current condition of her body (which I believe to be her own choice and problem, not ours, and if she is happy the way she is - great!). But yes, she is fat (the child is overweight, too). And yes, the most outcry and "support" will come from other fat people with serious insecurities on the subject, looking for both public justification and an ego-boost.

If you're fat, you're fat. It is generally a sign of unhealthiness in women, and it can be fixed through diet and exercise, something a lot of people refuse to do. This is what the total acceptance movement has done. fat acceptance, incest acceptance, transgender acceptance, and the list goes on. It has turned people into fragile little snowflakes who think their lack of self-control or plain mental disease is special.

Ok I think you need to teach children to have compassion for people. But people including children have preference for what the see. I think there is a reason why people are more turned off to very overweight people. Because it is a look of being unhealthy. The mother isn't teaching her child compassion. I am over weight and don't want people pretending it is equal to someone more healthy. And no I wouldn't want my child calling me fat. I would tell them it hurts my feelings you calling me fat. And that when you love others you don't say mean things to hurt them. She is teaching her child that if the child gets overweight no one is suppose to disapprove that is unrealistic. The truth is being very overweight isn't as appealing or healthy as being a closer to normal body weight. To a lot of people not everyone but to society in general. And even if it is more acceptable isn't as healthy.

I agree that you shouldn't use fat as an insult, but once gaining weight is becomes a problem (Like in this woman's case), you shouldn't explain it to your kids, as if you're proud of it, true it's difficult to lose fat in the first place, but if it can literally KILL you, shouldn't one do something about it? a small amount of fat is good, but too much is a problem.

If you don't want to be called fat, don't be overweight. That's the only way to avoid it. Unlike most things people are condemned or shamed for today, this is something you can fix. There are very few cases where a person has a legitimate reason for being overweight, and we shouldn't immediately think of them as lazy or sloppy, but everyone should strive for a healthy weight and those who don't should be able to handle the consequences. It's like if you smoke, you should accept the fact that you're at high risk for lung cancer and people aren't going to want to be around you when you smell like smoke and have cigaret breath.

Dana Gabriela
Community Member

Yeah... but if I'm overweight I accept that I could have health issues, like the smoker in your example.. but nobody will insult me or bully me, if I'm in school, telling me "you're a smoker" with disgust... because, why not, I'm thin but I smoke and I drink like hell and that's ok: how I look it's what interest you, not my personal health.. gimme a break.. No matter if you will die of throat or lung cancer, if you look thin and fit, it's ok to smoke or drink (even if drinking have destroyed a thousand families, not like being fat... not talking about violence and many problems result of it) without beaing insulted. That's the way people treat you. Not because everyone of those scientifist here which know that being fat means for sure that I have health issues and they care... Bs..they care just about my look, and that's all. Hypocrisy it's mother of all of you. And superficiality.

God forbid should anybody's feelings be hurt if they are called fat or worse. Parents need to teach their kids to have thicker skins rather than not bullying. People are just too sensitive for anything that is said today. Everybody's a winner! What the heck does that teach kids today. Parents need to stop sugar coating everything.

Rafaella Bueno

Be kind.

Nope. If she were truly "comfortable in her own skin", she wouldn't be feeding her children lies about fat protecting their muscles, and pretending that adjectives versus nouns don't exist. While it's good to teach against cruel insults, the reality is that she denied to her children the truth -- that she is very overweight.

It's easy to write negative things sitting behind a computer anonymously.

It's good to teach against meanness, but it's bad to rationalize & deny your own relative lack of health.

If being very overweight was not an issue related to health, wouldn't we see a lot more overweight athletes in the Olympics competing side by side with athletes that were in much better, I'm sorry, 'different' shape?

Ruthie Quinn

I love what she did, but I don't understand why she didn't correct her daughter on thinking it was alright to speak about her mother that way, and then believe it was OK to do so because she apologizes.

I'm sorry, but she is fat, and so are her children. Regardless of what she'd like to call it, the fact is, she's fat, and that's unhealthy. She's sending a good message, but she also needs to acknowledge the truth about herself, whether she wants to believe it or not.

That's right. We can call a tomato a strawberry all we want but it's still a tomato and just trying to get everyone else in the room to call it a strawberry doesn't make it anything but a tomato either. Things are what they are.

If they don't like the word fat to describe a person's body type then just say overweight, obese, morbidly obese, tubby, chunky butt or whatever else you can think of, but don't say fat. It's hurtful.

That being said, you are overweight enough that it should be a significant concern for you, health-wise.

maybe she should say "I'm not just fat, I'm bones, muscles, etc with lots of fat on top"....why would anyone think that being this overweight is a sexy & healthy thing to be? why would you teach your daughter that she has fat on her stomach too? I can't agree with this woman....no shaming here believe that 'cuz I am overweight myself since I had my son at an older age I've had a hard time losing the "baby fat"but I try to teach my young son that it is unhealthy to be overweight , it puts so much strain on our hearts & other organs as well as our joints. No matter how she wants to explain this away. There is nothing sexy about seeing someone with everything hanging out all over the place. yes, she should not feel less then or not beautiful 'cuz she is beautiful & doing her best but i don't think those teeny weeny bikinis are the best choice. If you disagree please remember that this is my opinion & I have a right to it, so please show respect like I respect your opinion.....

She must be a Liberal cause that's how they make stupid excuses for everything. Almost all fat people have mouth control problem. I said almost cause some will get fat even by drinking water.

Yeah... but if I'm overweight I accept that I could have health issues, like the smoker in your example.. but nobody will insult me or bully me, if I'm in school, telling me "you're a smoker" with disgust... because, why not, I'm thin but I smoke and I drink like hell and that's ok: how I look it's what interest you, not my personal health.. gimme a break..
