Dad Spends 18 Months Transforming Daughter’s Bedroom Into Fairytale Treehouse

Every girl wants a fairy tree in her bedroom, so 2016 super-dad candidate and Reddit user radamshome decided to oblige. He spent 350 hours over 18 months to build this magical 4,250 USD project. The concrete and rebar tree is so strong, that it can support up to three adults.

Radamshome is an “artist in the video game industry,” and his biggest fear after building this incredible structure is “when she’s 13 and wants it removed from her room.” What do you think, Pandas? Should we call it a day, and declare an early victor for the 2016 father-of-the-year award?

More info: radamshome

“My daughter wanted a fairy tree in her room that she could sit inside and read books”

“I was kind of un-prepared for the physical realities of this project….”

18 months and 350 hours were spent to complete the project

Radamshome, who is an artist in the video game industry, began with a concept drawing and a scale model

He took private welding courses to make the tree skeleton structurally sound

After over 100-120 hours, the skeleton was complete

It took another 50+ hours to apply the wire “skin” to the rebar

A special mixture of cement was used for the tree trunk, and papier-mâché for the branches. Total time so far: 225 hours

The dad used to paint miniatures as a teenager, so he used the same techniques to paint the tree

He wove Christmas lights, capable of being dimmed, into the branches to simulate stars

The fairy details and tree decorations were found at a Michael’s art supply store

One happy camper! The tree is actually strong enough to support three adults!

That is absolutely beautiful. Very lucky girl. My only negative thought is.... how are they going to keep it dust free? Especially with the electrical cabling in the branches that will attract dust?

For a day, switch on a super air vacuum/hi-power fan in the room. Then use -as many as you need- cans of compressed air to blow off all the dust sticking to whatever ! xD

Wow you had the exact same vision I had In my head for my daughters room. I have a boiler in the corner and wanted a reading tree for her but as you can see the hours that go into this I thought I will just stick to just painting it. Look on my page you can see what I decided to do instead. But this woukd look amazing for my daughter.

And by the time he finished, she was 18 and moved out of the house.

I'm 50 and I want it. I wish I could have created something like this for my kids...but when you are renting you just can't do it. This room is outstanding.

What a terrifically talented dad he is! Judging by the expression on his daughter's face, she loves it! When she's too old for it, he'll have to move her to another room. Can you imagine pulling all that out? :(

To expand on his job description, he mentions in the comments " I'm a world artist at Bungie working on Destiny. Before working at Bungie I worked at Naughty Dog on Uncharted. "

Why spoil your kids indulging them in over the top projects like this? She will grow out if it within a year.
