Someone Points Out That Dads Watch TV In A Very Specific Way, And It’s Hilarious (25 Pics)
There are these certain things that, it seems, pretty much all dads start doing somewhere along the line after becoming a father. And no one has yet figured out why. We've got taking grilling very seriously, not wanting a dog and then having the best relationship with it, shaking a handful of peanuts before popping them in their mouth, sneezing extremely loudly—the list goes on and on and on.
One of the most dad-like things people on the internet have been pointing out for quite a while now is watching TV standing up. Why do they do that? Is there something about it we don't know? Are we missing out? The mystery remains unsolved...
With that being said, Bored Panda invites you to look through some of the best meme-worthy photos capturing dads casually watching TV. As always, don't forget to leave a comment and vote for your favorite ones!

mine doesn't even watch sports. he watches youtube and disenchantment and futurama and arrested development
As a dad, I can tell y'all it's just so we can work out our gluteus.
Yea, my dad would do that, but part of it was he would have this thing about "relaxing" or "watching the game" that would make him feel like he was being lazy
It's because when dads sit to watch tv, they fall asleep and snore, whilst claiming to be awake and resting their eyes/watching tv
In a lot of these rooms, the TV is way too high on the wall, so sitting and watching is actually straining the neck. It is eye-level when standing and much more comfortable.
When my sis or me are watching a show, and my dad also likes the show, he watches, but he watches in the doorway. STANDING UP. lol
Dad here. Not all if us are like this especially us with flat feet. If I stand in one spot for more than 5 minutes my feet will really hurt. I much rather sit in my couch cross legged with my dog on my lap.
I don't know a single guy/dad that would watch tv like that i find it so odd. My brother Barry once fashioned a very long stick so he could change the chanel from across the room so he didnt have to get up
Wait... this is so accurate! My mom has a picture of my dad standing like this watching dancing with the stars! Also... he CONSTANTLY yells at the tv...
my theory is, when watching the news, that dads need to concentrate by standing close to the tv and being able to hear every word. i use to stand like this, when my child was younger, i got distracted too fast and stood there to listen carefully.
Do you seriously not know why we do this? Kids have spent years training us that as soon as we sit down they'll come in and start demanding stuff, and the "go ask your mom" doesn't work because she's smart enough to have made herself scarce at the first sign of trouble. THAT'S why we're standing.
It's so we don;t sit down and fall asleep in the chair/couch/recliner.
My dad would stand in the hall watching two tvs at the same time. Why? because room on the left was his with his tv going with the News...room on the left, the study with my mother sitting in her chair watching «The Bold and The Beautiful« and she would want to go over the whole plot with him afterwards....They are both gone now,but this post made me smile...
I’m a dad. I don’t watch TV like this. Neither does my dad. The question is: are we the weird ones, or is it all these others?
Yup. My husband will be on his way to do something in a different room, stop directly in front of the TV, stand there for 15 minutes, then turn to go. He'll then forget what he was going to do in the first place, walk back by to figure it out, get distracted and stand in front of the TV for another 15, rinse, repeat...
My dad does this and I think it’s because if he sits, he falls asleep
I thought that was something only my dad did and it used to annoy me... had no idea this was the Dad watching TV standard form.... amazing.
Well, sitting is the new smoking, so we should encourage more dad-standing. 😁
Haha I’m not a dad but I actually do this too just not so close to the tv lol
I stand and watch TV as well, but I'm making dinner or washing dishes. TV is in family room about 15 feet away.
It’s so cross cultural. Beautiful. My middle eastern dad does this too.
They say sitting is the new smoking, so (if you keep some distance from the television) it might even be a good thing.
My husband(a dad) will sometimes come into the living room while I'm watching TV and get terribly distracted by whatever I'm watching. Just stands in the doorway, almost literally in midstep. Sometimes I'll stop watching TV and start watching him instead because I can tell he meant to poke his head in and ask me a question but the "Oh shiny" part of his brain kicked in.
