Man Says He Wishes His Daughter Was A Son Instead, Has His Life Ruined After She Overhears It

Some say that a parent’s love must be unconditional. Sadly, it’s not the case for all children — some receive very limited love (if any at all). A good example is today’s OP, who learned that the reason her father didn’t put much effort into growing a relationship with her is because she was a girl. And well, this newly learned knowledge caused some wild and heartbreaking drama for the whole family.

How should you react when you learn that your father doesn’t appreciate you just because of your sex?

So, he ended up slapping his daughter and getting charged with violence against a minor

The post’s author was never very close with her father, as he didn’t spend that much time with her. He only properly spent time with the daughter during her birthday and the holidays, if you’re not counting the times he took care of her by giving her food or comforting her.

Then, one day, the teen overheard her dad talking on the phone in their backyard. She didn’t pay any attention until she heard her name. It was the dad telling his friend that he wished his daughter was a son, and since she wasn’t, he didn’t really try to build a relationship between them.

Luckily, after the girl told this to her mom, she comforted her, saying that it doesn’t matter that she’s a girl — she would love her either way. Later, the mom confronted the dad, and it ended up with him leaving to stay at the OP’s grandma’s house.

But the story didn’t end there. After some time, the dad came over to talk with the mom and the daughter. He apologized for his words and expressed the intention to be a better father from then on. But this didn’t satisfy the post’s author, as she was confused about how he was planning on ignoring all the damage he had done throughout the years. After all, she’s going to turn 18 in a couple of months. So, he left again.

Of course, after some time, he came back again. This time, the dad tried to guilt-trip his daughter and wife into forgiveness. As it didn’t work, he dropped a bomb, saying that he wasn’t interested in building a relationship with his daughter because she wasn’t actually his daughter. In his words, if she was his, she would have been a boy.

This left the teen dumbfounded, as it wasn’t how things actually worked. Well, Bored Panda did some research and found out that, in a way, the dad wasn’t that far off — it’s actually the man’s sperm that predetermines the baby’s sex.

At the same time, just as his daughter thought, he was also very far off. While, yes, the sperm is something that determines a baby’s sex (not to be confused with gender!), the man himself can’t be sure whether he’s going to produce boys or girls. After all, men tend to carry both X and Y chromosomes.

Coming back to the story, the daughter told her dad that his theory wasn’t right, and that angered him to the point that he slapped her. The girl didn’t hold back, as she pushed him, and he fell from the porch. The mom called the police, and the dad was taken away to a hospital and later arrested for violence against a minor.

It’s no wonder that people were shocked after the last update of the story, which ended in violence. In fact, some even stated that they stopped believing that it was true, as it went way too far, way too fast. Others just wished that the OP would be able to move on from such a horrific turn of events, as it must be quite damaging to go through.

So, whether this story is true or not, it’s still quite a wild one. One day, you’re living with an emotionally absent father, and just a little bit later, he’s being charged with assaulting you. At least the mom in the story seems to be a normal parent.

“I no longer believe any of it is true”: After several wild turn of events, some people started doubting the story’s validity

The OP’s dad has a point. He was a man. His father was a man. His father’s father was a man. And so on. All males, throughout the family line. /sarcasm/

I was about to ding you for the “sarcasm” tag (it’s so obvious that the tag was redundant), but then I remembered the audience and realized you *had* to do it lest you be buried in comments suggesting you’re wrong. 🙄😞

You people do realize facts are stranger then fiction right? Also when I was growing up I saw some guy yelling at his daughter saying how she never was his and never could be just because he has a history of son's. Don't ever underestimate the stupidity of men ever

The OG sounded believable but the further down this goes, the more it seems like a fairy tale. Like, did the mother never wonder herself why her husband ignored their child? It's unfortunately more than common that people get upset when their kid has the "wrong" gender. Plus, if she tolerated her husband ignoring the child for almost 18 years, why would she suddenly throw him out because the why is out? Plus, there's a bunch of attention grabbing details that just don't fit in there, such as being hit by a car or watching the Mandalorian. I'm not buying this one.

I don't know. I kind of believe this one. Humans do all sorts of non rational things. Maybe this was just the final straw for mom. And dad sounds stupid. So I believe he would think she wasn't his kid. That's the part that actually makes me believe this story. That idea is so ridiculously stupid that it's something like I've actually heard people say. Like she couldn't make that up it's so dumb. I vote this story true.
