Tiny Stray, Very Pregnant. This Girl Came Up To My Son In The Street Distressed Yesterday. She Is Maybe 1 Year Old Per Vet
X-ray showed at least 6 babies in her belly and she's due to give birth within the next week. She's safe now at our home.
Please have her fixed once her babies are weaned - and make sure those who take them in have their charges fixed, too.

I had a pony that looked like this while pregnant. We had to give her a different stall because her belly was too close to the door frame when entering her regular stall. Absolutely crazy wide load.
Rare. Twins is equine species is incredibly rare and dangerous.
Load More Replies...If you think nine months is a long time to be pregnant, spare a thought for the elephant mamas out there. They carry their offspring for almost two years before giving birth. The huge animals have the longest pregnancies of all mammals. But the 22 month gestation period is not just because of their size. Baby ellies need to stay in the womb that long for their incredible brains to develop properly.

She recently gave birth. 2 years pregnant! But no longer a slave to the tourism industry. Blessings, Somboon. Blessings.
Elephants are smart. Some would argue they’re even smarter than a few humans (read: poachers). Their brains have three times as many neurons as humans. And the babies are born really bright. Like really, really bright. Think about human babies for a minute. What can they do? Not much at all. For quite a while. They need help feeding, dressing, bathing, moving around, even burping. An elephant on the other hand is born ready. It’s able to keep up with the herd from the minute it's born. Scientists say this is all thanks to the extended time in mom’s womb.
That Mumma Is Ready To Pop
I want to know how she gets up from that position with those little flippers and no legs. Or does she just wait for the tide to pull her back out to sea? She's adorable, but I had trouble getting up and I had to scoot to the edge of the sofa and use the furniture arms! LOL.

Baby guinea pigs are born fully developed and ready to eat veggies but also need milk. They are fully covered in fur and their nails are soft and start to harden after birth. They are also born with their eyes ready to open and can run around almost directly after birth 👍
FYI - female guinea pigs can get pregnant again in only 2-15 hours after giving birth!!
Fairly recent research has found that mother elephants don’t miss a beat while pregnant. Or even shortly after. Rest? Ain't no mommy got time for that. Researchers from Oxford University worked with Save The Elephants to take a closer look at pregnancy and birth among African elephants. They put gps trackers on the giants and were amazed by what they found.

I Work At A Doggy Daycare And We Foster For A Local Bully Rescue. This Is Our Newest Foster, Sydney. She Was Pulled From The County Shelter And Is Pregnant
We decided to give her a super extra maternity photo shoot.
According to the university, “the average daily speed of the mother did not significantly change during pregnancy, birth and when moving with a newborn calf, except for a small dip in daily speed on the day of birth itself.” It turns out the mother elephants were just as fast the day before giving birth, as they were the day after.
"We speculate that this ability ‘to keep up’ may underpin why elephants have the longest gestation period [pregnancy] of any mammal in order to facilitate an advanced state of foetal physical development, and may have evolved to help elephant herds stay together," the lead author, Dr Lucy Taylor from the University of Oxford is quoted as saying.
I Caught A Friendly Pregnant Kitty On Monday. She’s Getting Used To Being Inside. Here’s Some Pics Of Her Outside And Then Inside
I named her Honey. I had been feeding her for a few months then noticed her belly getting bigger. She’s very friendly and she’d let me pet her and purr when I was around. I managed to catch her Monday, I didn’t want her to have babies in the dirt, or get FIV like my one kitty Joe. We took him in as a stray and he lived only 3 years with us, and he was the sweetest boy, but his active FIV was too much for him. Honey was also being bullied and chased away from the food I would take out, so I vowed to catch her and bring her inside.
She’s settling down but won’t go on any blankets or towels, she’s afraid of them! I hope I can get her used to something soft so she can have her babies on something other than the hard floor.
She’s leaking milk so she’ll have them soon! I’m so nervous for her, she’s just a baby having babies. I’ll get her fixed then find the best homes for her babies.
She’s so so sweet.
And someone who already plans to have her fixed. There are too many homeless cats out there because of irresponsible guardians who don't have their pets neutered.

So thankful you have given her a place for her babies. But just for information's sake, many cats prefer the cool temps of hard surfaces. Concrete, hardwood, marble, metal all stay cool unless in direct sunlight, for the most part. Mine still prefers it and she adopted me 7 years ago. She still sleeps on the top of a dresser or in a cardboard box on the floor.
Make her a birthing box and put it somewhere where she'll feel protected, like a closet, under a table, cave like 👍
I have 2 maine coons cats and I also feed 3 cats outside. One I named Gabby is actually the off spring of the 1st cat speckles I would feed. Crazy cause one day she bright me her 2 babies I named Rambo and Gabby and I never saw her again. Come to find out she got hit that same night 🥺 I can't bring them in but they also have a heated house under my deck to sleep in winter. They are spoiled lol Gabby "knocks" on the door by scratching as if its a scratch post lol
I had a abandoned stray I took in because he didn't look good. Found out he has fiv and he's at least like 13 with teeth and ear problems plus arthritis. Me and the doc figured let's keep him comfy and healthy as we can until he goes so gets monthly shots and lots of.food and treats and is loving his best life 💖
Juno's Piglets Are On Their Way A Little Sooner Than Expected! Any Day Now, She'll Be Ready
Juno does not look like a full-sized "meat" pig, so I'm guessing she's a miniature pig of some sort, which are generally only pets, as (not to put too fine a point on it) they would not be worth the feed/time to raise them for meat.

I believe the word is gravid, as in with eggs.
Amusingly "gravid" means pregnant in Swedish and I assure you we do not lay eggs ;)
That looks much like a Western Fence Lizard. All the ones here haven't been friendly, though I keep telling them to please stop sleeping on my steps for their safety. The males do push-ups as a dominant behavior, and they look like tiny gymbros.
As OP said, "I believe the word is gravid, as in with eggs." Some snakes and lizards give live birth, but this species does not. However, it's still acceptable to say that an animal that lays eggs is "pregnant", as the definition of pregnant is "containing a developing embryo, fetus, or unborn offspring within the body" - which does not specify that the young have to be placental only.

The marsupial moms can have up to 13 babies at a time. Unlike elephants, the babies are far from ready for life when they’re born. After birth, they crawl straight into their mother’s pouch. They stay there for at least two months. They keep cozy, nursing and feeding until they’re ready to face the big, wide world.
According to the the Wildlife Center of Virginia, “after two months, baby opossums open their eyes, and after a couple more weeks, start to emerge from the pouch and ride around on their mother’s back.” Opossums are only independent when they reach about four months old.

Fun fact: they are ticklish and laugh but to a frequency we can't hear.
Aww, it hurts so much when they leave. 4 or even 4.5 yrs is astonishing though! Very lucky (you and them)!
Load More Replies...I got my first 2 rats about 10 years ago. A male and a female. It took them about 6 months to figure out what to do. She had 11 babies. I did not realize daddy would jump on her again the day the babies were born. 20 days later, 15 more! We had cages in 3 different rooms. I still have the descendants of those 2 litter. Wait until the female is about a year and a half old. Her fertility drops and she will only have 3 or 4. Having the great great great great grandrats of the first 2 helps with the grief. I have photo albums of every fur baby.
Rats can have up to 12 babies in a single litter, and they get pregnant VERY easily. In the rat world what's called "oops litters" are very common. You think your boyfriend is a lousy lover? I've seen rats mate and it's over in 0.5 seconds. He jumps on her, thrusts a couple of times and runs off in the ultimate Wham Bam Thankyou Ma'am of the animal kingdom, and often that's all it takes for her to start popping out babies about 21 days later. So if you own both male and female rats, don't take any chances unless you want to be up to your elbows in a whole lot more of them!

Most of which are also already pregnant. They’re considered pests to many farmers and gardeners. And it’s no surprise why. “Because each adult aphid can produce up to 80 offspring in a matter of a week, aphid populations can increase with great speed," warned the University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Here’s another fun fact from the progressive world of animal pregnancies: Male seahorses are the ones tasked with falling pregnant and giving birth. Researchers from the University of Sydney studied seahorses to see just how they do it. “Fathers incubate their developing embryos in a pouch located on their tail. The pouch is the equivalent of the uterus of female mammals. It contains a placenta, supporting the growth and development of baby seahorses,” they revealed in this research paper.
The researchers described seahorse courtship as an elaborate process. “Males open and fill their pouch with water by bending forward and contracting their bodies to force water into the pouch, before ‘dancing’ with the female. Similarly, during labour, male seahorses bend their body towards the tail, pressing and then relaxing. This ‘pressing’ behaviour is accompanied by brief gaping of the pouch opening, with a series of whole-body jerks.” All of this allows seawater to flush through the pouch. And boom! Up to two thousand babies are born.

We Did A Maternity Shoot Today For My Very Pregnant Donkey
Again, what's so damn wrong with it? Please tell me what your hatred is of taking cute, memorable pics of pregnant pets or pics for adoption? Why does it matter if the owner decides to take a pic of their own pet with a belt or skirt? It's a riff on the maternity photoshoot in which the woman usually wears a skirt under her pregnant belly to accentuate it and often wears floral wreaths and other flower decorations. So again what is so awful you have to jump into the comments and b***h at people for doing maternity shoots with their animals? Who is hurt here? I guess you since you're crapping on other people having fun with pregnant pets. So how did it hurt you? I want to know so I never accidentally hurt you again by putting a skirt on my cat for fun pics. I don't want to get sued and have to pay your medical bills if I hurt you in the process. EDIT: you didn't go off on the pregnant pug wearing a sweater. So you have an issue with making an animal feminine with the skirt... This is getting very interesting...

It appears that Olive is a pug mix, yes - basically a mutt. Puggles are not an actual recognized breed. It does make me happy that the Beagle genetics helps alleviate the horrific health issues that brachycephalic Pugs go through - though Olive might still have to give birth via caesarian section, as a high percentage (usually over 80%) of brachycephalic breeds cannot give birth naturally.

Animals are pretty impressive. Totally diverse in the way they carry and birth their babies. And most of the time, they do all of it without any help from a medical professional or midwife. Although, elephants are known to get by with a little help from their friends. The females sometimes form a circle around a mom while she's giving birth. After such a long pregnancy, who can blame a girl for needing as much protection and encouragement as possible?

I've always wanted to see a red squirrel in the wild, alas the greys have out-competed them. She has such a neat little bump.
We used to live in a place that was thickly wooded with huge oaks (Quercus cerris) that produced enormous quantities of acorns. There was an intermittent stream that ran past our property down to the sea. The greys all lived on one side and the reds on the other and there were frequently mass battles back and forth over the stream bed.

Mare In Foal At The Watering Hole. I Was Happy To Take Pictures Of The Horses At A Watering Hole At Sunset. For A Few Moments, I Forgot Everything. My Heart Sinks When I See Such Beauty
I tapped the link at the bottom left of the photo and translated the non-English text underneath the English text in the Instagram post and it says “I was lucky enough to shoot (*photograph*) this colt mare just at sunset as a taboon (*Googled that, all that came up was some kind of flatbread 🤷🏻♀️) came into the watering hole. Truth is, at such moments you forget about everything, and the heart dies.” The Instagram post was from 2022.

Domino Is Pregnant With At Least Two Pups! I'm So Excited And Nervous At The Same Time
Genuine question: is this a hairless/naked guinea pig? It's very cute, but I'm not sure what it is. Nose, eyes and ears look like a gimme pig.
They’re called skinny pigs and they have such an interesting (but sad) history. They were basically bred into existence by scientists in a lab, completely by accident (they were breeding guinea pigs for some other outcome but skinny pigs were the result). Problem is, they’re at a higher disadvantage to regular pigs as they have a lower lifespan, are more delicate to temperature shifts, more susceptible to illness, etc. they were dying so rapidly that scientists gave up trying to care for them and handed them over to breeders, who bred with regular pigs, and managed to lengthen the lifespan (somewhat). They’re basically the ultimate runts of a litter. They also feel so odd. I used to call mine “Little Ballsack” (real name Ollie)

I Think My “Fixed” Cat Is Pregnant
I feel silly even typing this, but here is some context: My spouse and I became fosters to this adorable, abandoned cat that was hanging around my parent’s backyard in freezing weather (Feb 29). We fostered her through an official program that took care of all her medical needs. They told us she was not chipped, but confirmed she was already spayed. We both knew nothing about cats, but we ended up falling in love with her and we officially adopted her a few weeks ago.
She always had big nipples (we were told she may have had a litter before) so it was not a red flag. That is, until now. She has put on some healthy weight (she was emaciated when we first found her), but a lot of it seems to be in her belly area. I know it sounds ridiculous but we can’t help but think she is pregnant.
I have an appointment with the vet in 3 days (the earliest they could get me in), but I’m a little anxious thinking about the possibility she may seriously be expecting. I am wondering if this has ever happened before (an allegedly spayed cat being pregnant). I am also wondering if there could be any other reason my cat looks like this?
Congrats! And I'm guessing whoever you got her from simply made an error. But enjoy the kits and then have her spayed as soon as possible. Cats go into heat OFTEN.
Load More Replies...UPDATE: As originally reported by SewingStaffy, she had 6 kittens and here they are! Via Reddit, I just love the look on her face. And she has now been spayed for sure, yeah! Screenshot...b-jpeg.jpg
False pregnancy can occur in many mammals, including humans. Also, it could be botched medical records.
Whoever examined her and said she had been spayed didn't know what they were talking about. All the animals that I have ever had were spayed or neutered. All of the female cats, all of the hair did grow back on their belly like it had been before surgery. They were all spayed at 6 mos. The female dog I have now I got from a shelter just over 2 years ago and was spayed before I brought her home. I asked the vet about her nipples because they are different from the last female I had. She said that she had at least 1 litter of puppies and don't know how many more. I also her brother, they were from the same little but he had been neutered.
Usually when a spay is done the vet will put a small tattoo on the abdomen. All you need to do is shave the area and look for a tattoo. It's often just a short green line.

The bond between humans and animals can often lead to beautiful stories and unexpected friendships.
Just like the story of Lauren and Dove's intertwined experience of childbirth and care, many pet owners find themselves sharing special moments with their furry companions. This connection is especially poignant during pregnancy, whether it involves a human or animal mother.
These are cute, but I hope for the health of the mothers that they’ll be spayed soon (except the cows and goats, who may be bred for milk). More like this, please, Bored Panda.
Yes. The stray cats were already pregnant and the dog being fostered probably came to a shelter already pregnant, but it looks like a lot of these are people who simply haven't spayed their dogs and cats.
