Today the UK celebrates its second Ferret Day - an annual event held every May 5th to raise awareness about these exotic pets. These adorable animals have been working with humans (and sometimes against them by stealing chickens) for over 2500 years, and ferret racing is still prevalent in rural fairs.
The name "ferret" comes from the Latin furittus, meaning "little thief," probably because the playful pet is known to steal small objects. Today, trained ferrets are used to lead wires and cables in confined spaces. And although ferret care has some specifics to it, these cute pets are rapidly gaining their popularity.
Why don't you vote on your favorite cute ferret photo below—or if you're already an owner of such a funny pet, post your own picture!

guys please don't get a ferret just because you think they are cute... there are so many things about them that many people don't know when they run out and buy a ferret because they saw it on the internet and think it's the best thing ever... That's why so many ferrets end up in shelters and get put down! They require a LOT of care and attention, and are very very prone to getting sick, especially cancer. That means almost guaranteed thousands of dollars at the vet at some point in their life. If you can't afford this, simply don't get a ferret. Can you handle playing with it for at least 6 hours a day? No? Then don't get a ferret. Can you handle the disgusted look on your guests faces when they walk into your house? Ferrets SMELL. They poop a lot, and generally have a very musky odor. You can get them descented but it doesn't help much. If you don't like when things smell like literal sh*t, then don't get a ferret. Ferrets are great, but please please do your research. :)
I completely AGREE with you Emma. Most of these pictures show the ferret's owners not knowing how dangerous the world can be for a ferret.
Load More Replies...If you want a ferret then you MUST MUST research them first!! They are not like cats or dogs and can be very expensive. You first must have the time to spend with your ferret(s) as they require at least four hours a day of playtime with you. Also they sleep for about 12-16 hours a day though they can adjust to your sleeping schedule. You must also spend a lot of money just getting ready for a ferret. One will cost you about $100-150, you have to buy a cage which costs another $100-200, special food and other stuff. All in all it will cost you about $500-600+ just to get started. Also they can experience a lot of health problems after their 4th year to where it can cost thousands of dollars to treat them ie. Adrenal Gland Disease which has no treatment and they will die. Also you must ferret proof your house as they try to get into EVERYTHING! They love to grab hold of electrical cords, get trapped into small spaces, try to eat EVERYTHING on the floor! They are however great pets!
