I agree. The one where they said the main character of the TV show was asleep or they don't make batteries for that toy anymore really annoys me. I can't believe people would do that to their children.

I only half agree with you. My parents were always 100% honest with me and my sister as kids, to the point where our mom especially would way, way overshare. My sister and I learned to be excellent liars, because we were expected to be transparent about every single little thing. Nothing teaches a kid to lie faster than a parent who won't give their kids enough space and privacy. Honesty is a very good policy, but within reason.

Yes, and if you want your kids to trust you & feel safe in confiding in you, they need to know that you are trustworthy. Once they figure out that you've been telling them "little white lies" just to shut them up (and they WILL figure it out!) then they're going to wonder what else you've lied about.

Most of these lies aren't bad, though. For example, the little kid who is visited by a bird at night if he sleeps in his bed; that just helps keep the child well-rested in bed. How else is a parent supposed to keep a stubborn child in bed? Strapping them down? Many of them are still too young listen to reason. Plus, I strongly doubt that he's going to cut off connections with his parents once he finds out that's untrue -- if he does, it means there are other serious relationship problems completely unrelated to the lie. The kid will most likely fondly look back on these memories when he's older.

These are glimpses of random lives. They are creative and resourceful responses to what they perceive as challenging situations. You don't have to assume they are smacking of sheer anything. I drove my parents crazy with my tenacious curiosity, and it's no crime to screw with your kids sometimes.

not a parent, but to a certain point i understand white lies. in theory i agree with you, but kids are so exhausting, i get why it's someone's easier to tell them fairy tales to make them clean their room.
