Cute Illustrations Of Directly Translated Afrikaans Words

I live in South Africa, and one of the most spoken languages (out of the 11) here is Afrikaans. It’s a great language with some interesting words.

I did some funny illustrations of direct translations of Afrikaans compound words that mean something completely different.

I was hoping, as someone who also understands Dutch, to find my favourite Afrikaans word translated, namely: verkleurmannetje. For those not in the know, it's Afrikaans for Chameleon and literally means "changing colour little man"

This is wonderful, I am from South Africa, and you have chosen some excellent examples of the Afrikaans language and your illustrations are cute and fitting.

Afrikaans is based on Dutch after the Dutch settlers came to South Africa. Also used to be referred to as Kitchen Dutch, Cape Dutch or African Dutch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrikaans

Amazing work! We should celebrate Afrikaans instead of condemning it as the "language of oppression". Lets live in the present, not the past

Ummm, isn't this the language that the white minority tried to force upon the black majority during Apartheid in South Africa? Weren't black teachers who "committed suicide" in custody arrested for not teaching the language of Dutch Colonialist to the black children of the slums? Slums like Soweto. Where's the cartoon for oppression?
