42 Wholesome Pics Of Animals Adopted In March That Made People Say ‘Aww’
Interview With ExpertAdopting a pet might be one of the best decisions you will make. I speak from experience. I was never planning to adopt my dog. Instead, I had been fostering other dogs short-term after my cocker spaniel of 17 years died. As fate would have it, I spotted a photo of my current dog on the Facebook page of an animal rescue organization I'd been following. Even though it wasn't the greatest pic, something told me I needed to meet this animal ASAP.
I made an appointment and drove for almost an hour to the shelter. All I'll say is it was love at first sight for both of us. When I collected him a few days later, he jumped from the back seat of the car onto my lap in the driver's seat. And that's pretty much where he's wanted to be ever since. He is the sweetest, most loyal doggo, and my only regret is that I didn't meet him sooner. If you're considering adopting a pet, I'm here to tell you to go for it. And I'm not the only one.
People have been sharing the sweetest, most heartwarming photos of pets they adopted in March. It was no easy feat, but Bored Panda has narrowed down the list and picked our favorites. If some of these don't bring happy tears to your eyes, then I don't know what will. Keep scrolling and upvote as many as you like. Or all if you wish. We hope they inspire you to book a visit to your local animal shelter. Don't miss the insightful interview we had with Dr. Rebecca Greenstein, Veterinary Medical Advisor for online pet marketplace Rover. She has some great advice for anyone planning to adopt a pet.

Hazy Has Been Adopted!
Meet Oatis, My New Roommate
The dog is obviously blind. And for anyone wondering, a dog relies less on its eyes than does a human, and will do just fine. My childhood collie was blind for the last two years of her life, didn't impact her quality of life at all. My current dog has a ring of sight around the outside of each eye, she's doing fine.
Why is my comment hidden? How did that happen? Is it because i said this dog is ugly?
Yes. Because some people actually don't care about the look. And may please refer you to Thumper's mother.

When it comes to adding a new furry member to your family, many people believe in the saying "Adopt. Don't Shop." We asked renowned vet Dr. Rebecca Greenstein for her thoughts on the matter. She told Bored Panda that while it really depends on the situation, adopting an animal is a great idea.
"Adopting a pet is a big-hearted and ethical decision because you are hopefully giving a deserving animal a forever home and a chance to live their best life! Most shelter animals are cared for by competent staff, but it’s a far cry from the stability, security, and love of an adoptive pet parent," Greenstein said. "Unfortunately, due to overcrowding and illness, some unwanted pets can even be euthanized if they can’t be adopted out."

You adopted them both, which means they are a bonded pair. Nothing but love and respect from me.
Adopted After 200+ Days At The Shelter
We adopted a cat in 2015 that had been at the shelter for seven years. She was cross eyed and had a wonky ear, but she was perfect to us. She later went deaf in the crinkly ear. She went to the Bridge on 8/17/2020. We love you and miss you, Starlet Girl. 275170529_...8186b0.jpg
The expert added that many people believe dogs that come from breeders are more predictable in terms of certain traits, but this is not always the case. "Just like in people, offspring may have completely different coat colors, appearances, sizes, health concerns, and temperaments from their parents," she explained. "And remember, not all breeders are equally trustworthy or reputable."
Greenstein says either way, it's super important to get a thorough history of the pet you’re about to adopt or buy. So that you know if it's the right fit for your family and home life.

Load More Replies...One reason animals end up in shelters is that people aren't prepared for the huge responsibility of owning a pet. They underestimate the time, work, and love that goes into adding a furry member to their family. Others don't do their research and end up buying or adopting a pet that's not a good fit for their lifestyle.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), around 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.1 million are dogs, and 3.2 million are cats. Around 4.1 million shelter animals are adopted each year. And about 920,000 are euthanized.

Meet Romeo, My Rescue Flowered Sharpei
"I would encourage prospective pet parents to take honest stock of their home situation and lifestyle before adopting a pet," Greenstein advises. "If you have young children, not every animal will cope well with the noise and intrusiveness. If you work long hours away from home, some athletic or anxious pets will act out without the proper amount of physical exercise or mental stimulation. If you adopt a pet with a history of trauma, be prepared that there may be ongoing medical or behavioral therapy, and perhaps other adjustment challenges, associated with that."

Oh my goodness, unless that's a confluence of the most perfect combo of genetics, that's a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever! They are a very rare breed! <3

And ask for any and all current and past paperwork they have for the pet. "Ideally, the pet should be vaccinated, dewormed, and even spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. You should be informed if there is any history of illness or injury that might crop up again in the future and could require ongoing veterinary medical care."
Adopted My First Pittie!
It wont be your last. Pitties are so misrepresented. Lovely dogs if given a chance and just loved.
So true! We have two of them - a 6 y/o male and a 3 y/o female. We've certainly loved all the dogs we've had over the years, however, it's been notably different with our pitties. We are unapologetically obsessed and have essentially built our entire lives around them.

She adds that while many pets are understandably nervous or shy in a shelter setting, you need to evaluate an animal’s temperament closely before bringing them home. And this is especially relevant if you already have other pets or children in the house.
"A reputable shelter should be honest with you about a pet’s tendency to be anxious, destructive, or aggressive – qualities which may limit their suitability for certain pet owners," says Greenstein.

Cane Corsos are a mastiff breed. They are usually gentle giants. They've gotten a bad reputation due to bad owners, but most mastiff breeds are absolute sweethearts :(

Greyhounds have an ear type/shape that is called "rose ear". This is a normal carriage for a greyhound's ears. They can be held/lifted up higher, but just because this dog's ears are carried in this manner does not mean it's stressed or afraid of the camera. A relaxed greyhound's ears will look like this.

Lovely boxer, but bloody hell, that must be a contender for the world's most boring garden! 😂
Judging by the trees and hills in the background, OP lives in a desert, perhaps California, or more likely Arizona. (I live in California, I know the look of a desert well.) A "garden" (or even just grass) is not feasible in these places due to the heat and the massive waste of water it would take to keep the plants alive. They could absolutely plant native plants, but many desert-biome "native plants" have thorns, spikes, or other physical protections against predators (that could hurt a pup) or are toxic to doggos. Yeah, it's very boring and sad, but it's probably the best option for where they live XD

Don't rhyme them. Dogs focus more on the ends of words than the beginning.
Fred and George, Zack and Cody, Julius and Vincent (Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Danny DeVito in the movie Twins)
Those adopting senior dogs or cats are extra heroic as they know heartbreak is not too far in the future but let these dear animals have truly loved final few months/years ❤️❤️❤️
We adopted a 10 year old Newfoundland because we didn’t want him to die in a cage. Was told he would last maybe a year. Had him for 4 years! We think the pool we had helped. He would go swimming every day it was open.
