LakotaWolf, I believe the absolutist mentality comes from wanting the unnecessary killing of up to a million companion animals a year to stop. That’s just in this country. And of course we don’t want purebreds to go extinct. But it wouldn’t hurt to stop breeding for a year or two considering how many breeders there are in the world. Nobody said you’re evil and horrible for wanting a purebred. I love that there are actually sanctuaries for specific breeds. Makes getting a purebred a rescue! :)

You are absolutely right. There is nothing wrong with a purebred dog and some people look for a certain breed for a purpose. Maybe someone wants a husky because he lives in a cold place and runs marathons. Maybe somebody want a labrador because of os a good family dog. With a shelter mongrel it is likely a surprise what charakter the dog has and sometimes the dog ended up in a shelter for a reason. If you think you can handle it, go on. But people should stop posting bragging posts about their adopted dog to show them like some fancy Accessoire. Show me your shelter dog after it lived with you 5 years, that i can respect

Ahnjunwan, I'm going to believe this post is an April Fool's joke. Breeder dogs have as much negative characteristics as a mutt and can be a surprise too. Most dogs aren't surrendered to a shelter for a bad character. Most often, non-adoptable pets aren't presented as adoptable unless the managers know the adopters would be able to care for it better. Dogs are surrendered from owners realizing they shouldn't be an owner, the dog was given as an unwanted gift, a child receives one as a gift & loses interest, the dog makes any motion that it might hurt someone, a dog reacts to being mauled by toddlers -& parents think it's a bad dog, new parents can't care for the baby & their dog (my mom gave her toy poodle to a trusted friend b/c the dog was jealous of anyone being with my mom & would growl & snarl, so my mom took no chances witn.her 1st born baby & found a responsible person to adopt her dog). Look at how many dogs were adopted during the pandemic & once it was over, couldn't take care of the dog or didn't want it.

Here are 3 dogs we have adopted, out of the 20, since we’ve been married. Never had a problem with any. From pitbulls with dog fighting tendencies to collies with Lupus, as long as the home has a stable pack mentality everybody gets along. We’ve had 160 pound Newfoundlands to 6 pound Yorkies, mostly senior and special needs. I think most people want people to adopt instead of buy until the shelters are empty. From the 1970’s where 17 million companion animals were euthanized to the present where the numbers are down to under a million are euthanized. Still too many to be put down just because they don’t have a home. This means the dog breeders would have to stop for a couple of years. Not that big of a request to save so many lives.
