My name is Vanessa, and I’m a self-taught illustrator from the US (and China, and Germany, and, well, all over the place really!). I currently live in Lithuania with my husband and a plant called Spikey (which isn’t actually spikey at all…don’t ask).
I’m hopping mad about bunnies, so when I heard about Inktober, an awesome art challenge where thousands of people around the world spend the month of October making a new ink drawing every day, I already knew exactly what I wanted to draw for it! But shortly before the challenge began, I learned during a late-night trip to the hospital that I had a serious repetitive strain injury in my drawing hand. I'd literally painted myself into a plaster cast!
Still, unable to sit on the sidelines while Inktober continued without me, I cautiously embarked upon the challenge regardless. It wasn't easy, and it probably wasn't smart. I even had to take a break in the middle to rest my hand, but I finally got there in the end! I hope you like the results of my first Inktober, and if you'd like to see more of my work, then feel free to follow me @hoppingmadproductions on Instagram and Facebook!

Hitting Pause - Time To Rest My Hand!
Yeah take care of that hand. We want to keep seeing your Masterpieces!
Ready To Restart
I love every one of these and love your drawing style! Hope your hand is feeling better!
Thanks so much!! I'm definitely taking a bit of time off now to rest it....but I'm excited that I finally got through inktober!
Aww thanks! I might just have to look into that as a possibility!!
What a great month of posts!! I really love them!! Keep more coming!!
I love your style! And love each and every one! You are talented. Keep it up, but take good care of your hand first!
Thanks so much! Yes I'd rather be safe than sorry so am resting up and icing it again...although it is hard to be patient as I've got so many ideas I want to draw!!
Oh wow. I am so sorry to hear what you've had to go through and the daily pain. Thanks for the warning...I'm definitely not going to take this lightly! In fact, I'm headed to the doctors again next week as my hand is triggering up again and I want to be extra careful that I don't end up with permanent nerve damage. Keep your head high and I hope my bunnies can put a smile on your face and help you forget the pain for even a few seconds!
Oh, I know how you feel! I was not an artist, but an athlete, with an injury. I could not stop, ended up with crutches and then a wheelchair, still in the wheelchair now after 11 years since getting my diagnose. Be careful! Take good care of your body, I did not. I felt like, if I could just continue to compete as long as I could and end up in a wheelchair by the age of 30 (I was 16 at the time 28 right now) that would have been fine by me. But soon got crutches and ended up in a wheelchair not even 2 years later. But if I had known the pain it would bring me for so many years and who knows how much more to come.. I would definitely have been more careful. Your case is different, but just make sure to take hood care of your body and take enough rest, before you get restricted from the thing you love to do the most!
Though at the same time I am kind of (again, as far as possible) happy it happened because I met people who I would have never met otherwise. And things happened that would never have happened otherwise. But by this time I think to myself, well, the best things that could have come out of it as far as I can think of, have already happened. So now it's time to get better. Waiting for that to happen! Haha. So I at least can go work, study and my big wish (if I am lucky enough I can) have/raise a child with my partner. Which we can't right now, because he is the main source of our income with his work, and I do not have the energy to raise a child. But I believe I can be cured. I just do not know when yet. And you will heal too! And can continue your cool art!
I'm glad you take it serious. I do not mean what happened to me will happen to you. But just a warning to take things serious. We as athletes / artists need to be careful of our bodies! It's okay, I'm kinda used to it now after all those years. As far as you can get used to pain. There is nerve-pain (in many different ways, extreme pain by touching my lower left leg, and pain like stabbing, wrapped wires, lightning, cold, heat, throbbing, pinching and so on. Plus from another disease chronic cramps. All those pains at the same time 24/7 for 11 years. On a international medical pain-scale list it is as severe as giving (untrained) birth, but chronic. It sounds horrific, and kind of is. But as I said, I am kinda used to it now and the most frustrating is the pain while touching (hand, fabric, water, a breeze etc) and the lack of energy because of fhe extreme amount of pain. But I am a very happy person! I am content' though healing would be awesome haha Take care!
well there is always next year or the year after that...or after that!
That seems to be how the boredpanda's platform works. Even if you upload them in a certain order, as the community votes on pictures it reorders them based on what's most popular :).
There's a wonderful determination I see in your pictures. Even injured, you really pulled a promise through. I hope you didn't overwork yourself and you'll get better soon. You have a beautiful art style, and I'm glad for bored panda that I got a chance to take a look at your works!
Thank you! I'm taking it easy for now and resting up a bit, but I will still be posting a watercolor comic each week in a similar art style!
Thanks so much!! I'm definitely taking a bit of time off now to rest IT htpps://jobsaajtak.in
I have Pseudo Tumor Celebi, cause of that, a ton of nerves in my head is messed up, I can bearly walk, im in pain 24-7, there is no real cure, it took my short-term memory, and it makes my hands shake badly, But Im an artist/Graphic Artist, I used to be able to draw with paint and use pen and paper too, but my hands now shake too much for that, I can hardly write my own name,..... I now have to use the computer even more to make my drawings .......You dont see me getting Notice or free Publicity like this.....But you know a hand that will heal in a while is much much worse than my problem.........
