Naaah, I am going with justified!

100% justified, in my opinion. The legal and justice system has failed so many times when it comes to protecting children. She made sure this person never hurt another child again, and I will sleep better knowing that. I am not for vigilantism in general, but there are exceptions

This man was her next door neighbor. He was a convicted SO of two other little girls when he abducted Anna and kept her in his home for hours that day. He SA'd her and used his girlfriend's tights to strangle her before hiding her in a box by a canal close to their home. His girlfriend called the police on him and he admitted his crimes to them. After Marrianne shot him 6 times out of 7 shots fired, she was apprehended without resistance. She was sentenced to 6 years but only served 3 years before being released. Source-Wikipedia.

I think the questiomn is phrased badly. Justified is the wrong word to use.

No the difference between murderers and civilised people is the rule of law. Also note he was in the middle of his trial. He hadn't even been convicted. What if the police had made a mistake?

It may not have been "justified" by legal means, but I'd do the same thing, 100 times over. Monsters don't deserve to live.

No. Law does not equal justice. Her child died because of him. We can debate but on many points he did deserve to die

The tricky thing is trusting that justice really would have been served. He deserved to die...but I'm not sure that's the sentence he would have got.

Justified: having done for a legitimate reason. He raped and killed her daughter. She killed him. That is the most legitimate possible reason so she was indeed justified. And seeing as though justice would be a remedial action being taken this is also justice. Jail would not have been justice in her eyes and that who deserved it not the public or a court or the government.

Mob justice is no justice. Can't say I don't understand her motivation, but if we start letting victims choose how and when to seek retribution we'll end up with lynchings and even more lives lost, including thousands of cases of "oops, didn't know that. Too bad, too late"

Yes. They have failed at the basic task of being a vaguely decent human. They don't deserve protections.

Sorry you got downvoted for this. The only issue I have with your post is that the time frame needs to be longer than 10 minutes.

While I totally understand the urge, torture is never the right choice. It cannot be the right choice, so unless those parents just want to tell the murderer about their kid or something - fine. But inflicting pain on others for the sole purpose of inflicting said pain is just never-ever right. And yes, I do understand the urge to do so. Absolutely! But that's why we DON't go around dishing out self-justice. We have laws and rules and police and stuff like that to take the emotion out of the punishment. It's not always satisfying for the relatives - quite often isn't, actually - but it's still better than torture-sessions. Just imagine what would happen if the suspect is later proven to be innocent?

A pistol small enough to smuggle in like she did is difficult to hit even a person sized target if more than a few paces away. The fact she connected 75% of those shots with her intended target one handed tells me she was a better shot than most police. I don't condemn her actions, she didn't shoot an innocent man or bystanders, she shot a man that did not deserve to live. Who knows if she saved more little girls from the fate her daughter met, thankfully we don't have to wonder after he was released to do this again.

But she didn't kill an innocent bystander. This POS would have a chance of parole and/or released, she made sure he was never going to be free to probably hurt/kill someone else's child.
