50 Times People Were So Freaked Out By Something They Discovered After Moving Into A New Home, They Just Had To Find Comfort Online (New Pics)
Moving into a new home is always the start of a new chapter. You might be relocating to a completely different city or part of the country, beginning a new job and suddenly trying to make new friends and connections. But when you start this new chapter, you might want to hope that whoever wrote it wasn’t someone like Stephen King. There’s a reason why moving into a new house is the premise of so many horror films…
Below, we’ve gathered photos of some of the creepiest and most disturbing things people have discovered in their new homes, houses they have rented and homes they have considered buying. Many of these pics are inexplicable, but they might still send a chill down your spine. Keep reading to also find an interview we were lucky enough to receive from author and host of the American Hauntings podcast, Troy Taylor, to hear his thoughts on what moving into a creepy house might mean.
Be sure to upvote the photos that would send you running out of the house or rushing to re-list the property, and feel free to share any of your own personal stories in the comments, if you’ve ever stumbled upon frightening things in your home. Then if you’re interested in checking out even more of these spooky photos that could inspire a thrilling horror movie, you can find Bored Panda’s last article on the same topic right here.

John Wayne Gacy Did Construction For My Grandparents And We Found His Business Card While Going Through Some Stuff Today
To me this is the scariest thing on this list so far because we know the story behind this one...
I don't know the story can you please summarise it for me
Load More Replies...If you didn’t know, John Wayne Gacy, aka The Killer Clown, was a serial killer/rapist with over 30 victims, the majority young boys. His tactics were often dressing up as clowns for children’s hospitals or charities, before tricking them into handcuffs for a ‘magic trick’. He buried victims around his house and did awful things to them, google it if you like the gory details.
Thank you for providing a censored version so others can be aware, without the gory details.

Seriously for some collectors this is an incredible find. I bet OP could get a tidy sum for it. I'd probably keep it in a case for conversational value. Sorry ppl downvoted you, I got you back to zero lol. It's not like we are fetishizing the r*pe and m*rder of kids, god no! But ppl can't pretend it isn't a fascinating artifact.

1st thought: I bet it can be auctioned. 2nd thought: the little drawing in the corner: "let me show you the house! I'll love to have you as my... guest."
I’m currently reading Pet Sematary, and although I’m only about one tenth into the story, I know that the family moving into this new house can’t mean anything good. Thankfully, I’ve never experienced anything spooky or paranormal in any of the homes I’ve ever lived in or rented, but clearly, many other people have discovered disturbing things. They might mean nothing, but the simple fact that there was a pentagram carved into my attic or a lineup of naked mannequins in the basement would be enough to give me the heebie-jeebies.
I was curious how likely it is that any of these homes are actually haunted. We see portrayals of ghosts and hauntings in films all the time, but are they really as common as Hollywood has led me to believe? To answer this question, I reached out to Troy Taylor, author and host of the American Hauntings podcast. We asked Troy if it is common for people to move into haunted houses or if it’s more likely just paranoia when new homeowners suspect something is up. “It can certainly be both,” Troy told Bored Panda. “We are always thrown off a bit by anything new, especially a place where you have never stayed, and yet you’re now expected to sleep, eat, and live there. It’s new, and it can be unnerving.”

Our New To Us House Has A Secret Panic Room That Wasn't Included In The Listing. Built In 1978 And I Love This Place
My house was built in 1978 but I have yet to find my secret torture chamber... I mean panic room.
That's not a panic room bro. That's how shall I put this, a place for adults to participate in concentual activities that most other people wouldn't appreciate.
Consensual? I hope so. This does not scream "Consensual" to me.
Load More Replies...Although it may be hard to tell, this room is underneath the outside cement patio
Looks like it has a chair and a pole... you sure it's not a strip club?
But Troy notes that we can’t always rule out the fact that our house might be telling us something. “From the other side of it, every house has a past, even relatively new ones,” he says. “It doesn’t have to have been a place where deaths occurred, or murders were covered up – nothing that dramatic. The residents of that home leave a little bit of themselves behind, both physically and psychologically.”
“Have you ever visited someone’s home just after an argument has taken place? There’s just something in the atmosphere that feels ‘off’. Now, imagine a century or so of that kind of thing taking place in a home, and you have what some would consider a ‘haunted house’, even if there aren’t any spirits present,” Troy explained.
I Was Helping My Dad Move Into His New Office, When We Found A Trapdoor
We hadn't seen this when originally checking the place out. Lots of 50's - 60's era blueprints/technical drawings, a newspaper from 1937, and gears with 1950's lightbulb for scale.
A bit of the left field but those three gears and a lightbulb are a great start for a steampunk lamp.
It's not quite as precise but luckily the lightbulb has some gears for scale

Looking For Somewhere To Stay On Airbnb. Found The House Of Nope
Look at the bed!! You'd sleep with one of those things literally right over you!? F-that!
I'd take it, those demons look really cool and maybe the owner knows where to get them or crafts them himself, so I could purchase one.
Unless the owner is a prop designer and proudly displaying their work, I wouldn’t really want to stay in a house with someone who makes or collects any of those things (the stuff in the display cabinet included). As to what they are: they remind me of the deity from the 2017 film The Ritual.
what even are those things? Are they real? .... please don't tell me they're real FML
You guys, the skeletons aren't the problem; look at the abomination paint job on that beautiful arched ceiling!!!!
Terrifying as this picture is, why am I only concerned that there is no safety railing around the top bunk mattress?
We then asked Troy if a homeowner should be concerned if they suspect that their home may be haunted. “First, let me say that genuine haunted houses are somewhat rare,” he noted. “No matter how odd things might seem, there’s a good chance they have a natural explanation. Determining this is the first thing you should do. Relax and be a good observer, even if you are frightened by what you think is happening.”
“Are those ‘ghostly footsteps’ simply the house settling or the floorboards creaking? Is that ‘cold chill’ merely a draft? Maybe these events have explanations, or maybe they don’t,” Troy told Bored Panda. “Just don’t let your imagination run away with you or soon, every bump in the night will be a vengeful spirit and every curtain that moves in the wind will be an apparition.”
Doing Electrical Work In This House That Was Built In The 1800s And There’s A Prison Cell Under The Basement Stairs
Definitely not a cell but a wine cellar. The bar door is there to prevent housekeeping or any worker / contractor to easily steal the bottles. Where I live you’ll find this in pretty much every basement.
I'm going with your reply. Makes more sense to me. I'd hate to think it was a torture chamber or something more nefarious

Found This In The Basement Of My New House
When we moved into our first home we found out soon after that the kids room who lived there before us had a lock on the outside of the bedroom as if to lock him in.... made me feel sick for that child so we reported it in case something was going on
Both kids rooms in the house I live in now had locks on the outside of doors. Kitchen cabinets are also all labeled according to what was supposed to go there. Honestly, both creeped me out a little.

He'd stolen it like 25 years previously. He had a life grenade for that long plus waited all that time and then sold it to an undercover agent. Like geez. And it was like all the people you read about who do these things. He was quiet, super nice and very unassuming. I'd known him most of my life and I would NEVER have guessed in a million years that he'd have done this.
And when it comes to what homeowners should do if they are really concerned that something may be up in their home, Troy says, “The best way to rule out any kind of natural explanation is to keep a journal of anything that occurs in the house that you think might be spook-related.”
“Write down whatever you see, hear, or even smell that seems odd and you just might see a pattern emerge – a ghostly or non-ghostly one. Write down the time and date, make a note of who was present, and describe what you experienced,” Troy told Bored Panda. “It might turn out that the strangeness happens at the same time every day or in the same location. This will be valuable information if you decide to involve a ghost hunter in your situation.”

That's actually not a circle for summoning demons! A demon-summoning circle looks like this: Some_type_...eafc6a.png
Worshipping the devil is fine and all, but doing that to nice hardwood floors is just wrong.
The pentacle/pentagram faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar predates Christianity and, in fact, was once a Christian symbol before the Cross. Each arm represented Christ's wounds (Thorns, each palm, each ankle).

a lot of people have pentacles (protection) mixed up with pentagrams (a shape) and both are "historically" seen as demonic symbols when in fact it has nothing to do with summoning anything nor satanism and instead is actually just a pagan/spiritual symbol . This photo is also just over-posted ig

They can be unsettling but are very rarely dangerous. In most cases, simply asking a ghost to leave your home or making a deal with it not to bother you will generally work. You’ll feel silly doing it, but it’s worth the effort.” Good manners can go a long way in life, even with ghosts.

Is that the lens of a camera reflecting in the flash of your camera? Leave now and report the owners to the cops.
A younger cousin of mine had one of those loft access hatches in his bedroom. I never asked him about it, as I didn’t want to frighten him, just in case there was a chance that it didn’t actually bother him, but I always wondered how he managed to sleep in that room. I was several years older than him and wouldn’t have wanted to have this in my room. Hell, I’m an adult now and wouldn’t want to sleep in a room with a loft hatch.
Years ago we had a spate of burglars taking out tiles and entering houses through this kind of access. People were installing locks on them.
That's how my parents house was entered in the 70s when they were overseas. I've put hooks and a bar through all the ones in my houses since, as did they after the fact

Make sure their knowledge doesn’t come from watching television shows and wearing matching black t-shirts. You are allowing them into your home so be sure you know what you’re getting into with an investigation. They are not coming in to be ‘ghostbusters’. They are merely trying to verify – or debunk – what you believe about your haunted house. They should never ask for money to do an investigation. If they do, run away quickly!”

I Also Had Military Ordnance Hidden In My House
I bought the house in April, 2005. Three months later, I was considering running a new cable TV drop. So I grabbed a flashlight and went to a closet in the basement where I was considering drilling the hole for the cable when I noticed something shiny behind a random and oddly placed small section of peg board. I pulled the peg board back and noticed 3 silver cylinders a little bigger than a cigar. I took one and read the label. To my amusement, they were military issue parachute flares that I assumed were used in Vietnam. It wasn’t until then that I noticed the much bigger black cylinder. I am not a military man, but I know what Comp B is! So naturally, I freaked out. I rounded up the family, told my wife to take them to Grandma’s. I called the police and explained the situation and the officer that answered seemed a bit amused by my story, he told me to hold on while he spoke to his colleague and I heard him say: “I want to go, I gotta see this”. So the police show up, I took them to the basement, they took one look at the ordnance and decided it was best to stay outside. They contacted Selfridge Air Force base (I live in SE Michigan) and while they waited, they were discussing possibly evacuating some of my neighbors (who I hadn’t even met yet) and closing the entire block. At this point, there are about 3 police cars in front of my house and the neighbors are getting curious. It is 11 PM on a Thursday and every neighbor within 10 houses is on their porch. It was then, that 3 black unmarked Suburbans with US Government plates pull up to my house. Needless to say, at this point almost every neighbor on the block was outside, trying to figure out what was happening. After all, we were the new unknown neighbors who kept to ourselves. So the military took the mortar and the parachute flares. They checked the rest of the basement and found nothing, then left. The house was built in 1970, I assume the mortar and flares had been there since the 1st owner.
Yikes. I don't know what any of these things look like. I would have just grabbed it out of the wall and dumped it in the trash.
You're supposed to call the authorities, for proper disposal. If you put it a trash can it could still blow up. What if a kid found it?
Load More Replies...So did I! I would be telling the police that the entire block needs to evacuate before the military bomb squad shows up and I would be several houses away!

My mom insisted it was quarters and picked it up despite my telling her not to, dynamite gets less stable with age, got it into the dinning room before realizing it wasn't quarters. And finally calling the cops who were quite amused. Turns out they were railroad flares. They were marked fusee which I hadn't heard before.
Man, all my grandma left me was a dirty poem about Hitler and forcing themselves on Nazi women (seriously) and what REALLY read like a love letter from her secret female lover, hidden behind her own portrait. (Sarcasm that I'm upset she didn't leave explosives instead. Also, pretty sure she was a secret wiccan: her hallway and the five rooms sprouting off it form a star, with a fire pit/furnace in the hallway/center. She was an odd duck.
A dozen military CS gas grenades...both hand, and rifle launched. The bomb disposal officer asked for a large refusebag...because his Bomb Bag couldn't fit all the ordnance. This wasn't the only ordnance I have found in the home.

A resident ghost is almost guaranteed never to hurt you. It just wants attention. There’s nothing to be afraid of, and a peaceful co-existence is simple to maintain. And just think of the stories you’ll have to tell your grandchildren!”

There's an Alberta Perkins born in 1900 who was in a Louisiana insane asylum on the 1930 census (Ancestry.com) This may or may mot be her, and if it is it'd explain the cheap stone. Possibly family got her a nice one and she was relocated. Old stones are donated to the church or city if they can and use them as foundations to build barns, animal sheds, or grain storage like old corn cribs. Ive seen them used in Lake Michigan as part of the massive stones and construction debris used as breakwaters along the shore to fight erosion

It's sad unless you consider that the guy might still be alive!
Load More Replies...Does anyone know where the original poster is from? The guy in the pictures looks a bit like Australian footballer Matthew Richardson. He played for the Aussie Rules team the Richmond Tigers in the 90s/00’s. The teams colours were black and yellow like the scarf! The official uniforms back then looked exactly like the 3rd picture. Found A Hidden Room In My New House Today
So today my family hosted a home welcoming party. While we were sitting on the back porch my mother noticed and commented on how there is a large amount of missing space of what the layout on the 2nd floor should be. Upon hearing this two of our guests immediately started asking if they can go upstairs and pokes some holes in the wall. I follow the two guests upstairs and they see where the missing space should be. They then kick a hole in the wall inside the bathroom closet to reveal this room. The room is about 10x5' and none of us have any idea why it was boarded up.
popcorn ceilings? what does that mean?
Load More Replies...There are entirely too many secret serial killer kidnap rooms on this thread.
My parents bought a house from an old widow who proudly proclaimed her husband remodeled the house. We’ll he wasn’t very good and wasted a lot of space. The upstairs had slanted ceilings on the sides because you were right up against the roof. On the north side of the house he turned that into a bedroom and hall closet. Fine. On the side he just covered that space over with a wall. Us kids had our bunk bed right up against that space. We wondered what was on the other side. He also put a light bulb in a closet that pressed it against anything put on the shelf but you couldn’t see that from outside the closet. We put blankets up there and they almost caught fire on our first day but I smelled burning.
Newly Purchased Home. Clearly A Grave In My Backyard, Right?
if ... Keyword is if. Youll never truly know the people around you
Load More Replies...Well, my parents' backyard has 3 graves. Two dogs, one cat. To me this sight is the sign of love. Call me naive.
That just got me thinking about my parent's old place. Mum sold it two years ago and the new owners pulled it down and built a much bigger place. They probably came across 2 or 3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 or 4 Guinea pigs and a few birds in the process!
Load More Replies...Most likely a pet grave, I don't think anyone would bury a human in their yard and make it that obvious.
Maybe they made it obvious to discuise the fact that it wasnt a pet after all? Sometimes the best place to hide something is in plain sight... Because no one would suspect it....

OP's story was deleted by user but the user below had commented this story and I thought I'd share it. "My parents buy their big “this is our last house” home. It was owned for couple decades by a concert promoter/Texas Mafia dude. Very well known. They found a floor safe under a stack of bricks in the garage. Got a locksmith. Easy peasy - he’s in. They then called police (sadly they didn’t call me). Found about $200k in cash and quite a bit of coke in one giant zip-lock bag. The previous homeowner died - that’s why the family had the home for sale. So, Police can’t ask him what’s going on. Police ended up taking it all. Several years later the deceased guy family contacts parents and say “we finally got the cash back from the court, but please take half.” They did. Didn’t get half the coke though. Probably best."

Found This On Our Front Porch After The Second Night In Our New House. Yes, That Is A Human Tooth
You have a witch. Start documenting everything. My friends roommate in college was being stocked by a witch. The witch believed the friends roommate was her soulmate and that she had to be linked when they died. The witch was in her late 30s, my friends roommate was 8 when this started. She would leave things around their property like that and then tried to kidnap her when she turned 12. Eventually they got a restraining order and the woman had to move. Our senior year of college the restraining order was up and she had to go back home to fight for it to stay in place. They reinstated it for another 10 years after they found a shine in the woman's home with updated pictures.
That is just left out for tooth fairy during pandemic...no contact pick-up. The fairy didn't make it I guess.
I remain puzzled as to why 1} no one calls the police on most of these matters 2} Why no one asks their reality agent or any of the many inspectors that have to inspect homes for sale before they're allowed to be sold WTF is going on or 3 } Why put it online and then flap your hands as if you have no idea what to do? And yes..get a camera or a RING doorbell or something.
What will the police do? The problem is not seeing who is doing it. I mean we literally watched one neighbor send over a kid to his grandpa's house to smash our car windows (long story there). The cops did nothing because they had no proof. They said they had to have it on camera or catch the act being done. Oh and this was the third or fourth time it happened.

A whole room full of national costume dolls, two mannequins with wedding dresses on them (can't remember which relatives but maybe my great grandma and great nanna), a trench coat with a fake leg sewn on (for a Jake the peg costume), a foam mannequin attached to a second pair of shoes (so my grandma could wear them and hold the mannequin as her dance partner) and a large mannequin in a clown costume and mask (I don't remember why). Most of it went to my mum's place, and since she is a hoarder, us kids will eventually have to do something with it, though the national costume dolls were eventually able to be sent to a local community centre.

It would become my life mission to find out the purpose of each one!
My FIL lived in a 5 storey house in London, 4 were rented out as self contained flats. Whenever a tenant moved out he'd change the lock barrel but, for some reason, keep the old keys. When he died we found a huge keeper ring with 143 Yale type keys on it. He died in 1992 but there were stacks of old London phonebooks dating from the 1960s. Never threw anything away!
Reminds me of the drawer full of keys my grandad left in his house before we bought it. I don't think we ever used more than a 1/4 of them, don't know what the others were for.

I usually dont have insects in my apartment, but every time I buy bananas it seems that fruit flys appear
I live in a condo and have these. Poured stuff in the drains, take out the trash regularly, checked my house plants and changed the soil but they are still all over. They started 2,3 years ago when my new neighbor moved in. Also got bad smells coming in. Called the HOA. Turns out the guy below me lives in filth. Trash and old food everywhere. The flies and smells are coming in from his place. He was asked to clean up but they never enforced it so I have to live with the flies coming in and have to keep buying air fresheners.

The houses on my street all had that but theirs had doors. It was a garage storage closet. The builder had gone to prison for shady loans and bad construction. They just "forgot" to install the door before marketing the house. I was the second owner.
I found some old WW1 German medals in the attic of a house we moved into. Not creepy but interesting .
These pics have been making the rounds for years. My this and that and AirBnb or new house this and that is a complete fake. Sorry.

I'm guessing there aren't as many required inspections and disclosures in some places vs. my state.
I have stayed in a few air bnbs and never seen anything creepy. I did stay in one overnight though and I woke up to the owners having loud sex in a nearby room!
