Imagine the sheer joy of the day you finally move into your new, dream home. And the cold-shower realization that you may have gotten yourself a haunted house. Okay, let’s not jump to conclusions before scrolling below through this collection of some of the creepiest, weirdest and most unexpected findings people came across upon arrival.

Found A Creepy Room In A Hidden Crawl Space In My New Home
A crawl space behind the door contained a safe, briefcase (with money of various countries and origins, silver ingots, jewelry), a stack of mysterious videotapes (one of them was labeled "No no no no"), and a note that said “save yourself”
While some of the creepy discoveries in this list may indeed look unsettling and raise some doubts whether the place you just moved into is really fine, some people encounter way more serious issues. Think of hard-to-explain sightings, sounds, or smells… How do you know your new home is not haunted?
Well, to find out, Bored Panda reached out to Greg Newkirk, full-time paranormal investigator and founder of the world’s only mobile museum of the unexplained. For the last two and a half decades, Newkirk has been tracking down and investigating cases of high strangeness ranging from flying saucer crashes to cursed artifacts and everything in between.

Just Rented A New Place. Previous Tenant Left The Wall Mirror - And A Dirty Secret
“If you just moved into a house and it doesn't feel quite right, remember that anything but a brand new home has spent years soaking up the experiences, actions, and emotions of the people who have lived inside it,” Newkirk explained. It turns out that many paranormal researchers—including himself—believe that intense emotional states can create some kind of lingering bond with a location, which most people can pick up on unconsciously, the investigator explained.
“My advice, as silly as it might sound, is to talk to your new home, introduce yourself, explain why you're there and that you plan to care for the space. This kind of introduction can make a big difference, because even if you don't believe in ghosts or the paranormal, it can act as a kind of positive affirmation that will help you settle in.”

There's A Room In The Attic Where I Just Moved. Pretty Sure Nothing Good Happened Here
There are no neighbors near enough to hear someone yelling if they were in here...
Hard to tell, but the door is only 4 feet tall and 1.5 feet across (lamp for scale). It's got a light built into it and is painted light green. Metal grate on inside and outside of the door. Ceiling at its highest is a little over 4 feet. I'm hunched down to take these pics.
This is a creepy room upstairs at the far end of the attic at the house I just moved into. This house is overall about 60 years old, and apparently, the previous owner was the head of a church (don't know if that means priest or what)
that looks more like a prison cell, that would be playing in my mind all the time, of what realy happened there.
If you're looking for signs that your new home might be haunted, Newkirk said that you won't have to look too hard. “In my experience, hauntings in residential homes exist primarily to draw the residents' attention to something—whatever is causing the haunting *wants* you to see, hear, or feel it.”
Moreover, “common experiences in haunted homes range from the subtle feeling of being watched all the way up to visual manifestations of what we'd call ghosts. I've found that the longer you go without acknowledging these kinds of anomalies, the more pronounced they'll get until they're basically demanding your attention,” he explained.

I Should Never Have Opened The Attic
If you're worried that you might be moving into a haunted house, the professional investigator urges you to choose curiosity instead of fear. “Parapsychologists have long believed that there is a strong link between the unconscious mind and ghostly experiences, so when it comes to hauntings, consider that maybe it's *you* with the 'unfinished business,' and not the ghost.”

However, “if you remain open to the experience and explore the possibility that a haunting may very well be a product of your own powerful subconscious attempting to communicate important information, you'll find that these experiences are far less scary than they are enlightening. Sure, maybe your ghost is the lingering construct of a dead person, but those are easy to deal with—they just want to talk,” Newkirk explained.

The professional investigator reminded us that “if you are seeing things, hearing things, or feeling things that are scary—especially if they're instructing you to do things that are out of character—it's always a good idea to speak with a medical professional before calling in a ghost hunter.” He concluded that “you'd be surprised how many paranormal experiences are cleared up with a visit with a doctor!”

Man Finds A Secret Room In His New House That Contains Tons Of Ammunition, Guns, And Grenades
Just moved into my first house about 2 weeks ago. Just starting to get settled in. Bought the house for a very cheap price. The previous owner was very old and passed away. The house is very old, but for the price, it was perfect for a first house.
When I first toured the house the basement was way worse than it is now. The previous owner hadn't moved anything out yet. The basement was pretty full with junk. They cleaned most of the stuff in the basement out, so I had to clear some stuff out. But here it is now with some stuff that I don't really need and will probably get rid of soon.
While sorting things out in the basement I noticed this sheet of plywood that oddly fit in. I have had the house for 2 weeks and never noticed it. I decided that I didn't want to keep it down there so I tried to move it. It is pinched pretty hard against the stairs so it was pretty hard to get out.
When I finally got it to move I noticed there was something behind. At this point is when I got my phone and started taking pictures
how old where they..?? it could be a bunker from ww2 depending where u live
(The information in the comment has been edited according to the passive-aggressive comments on this comment) I assume it to not be a ww2 bunker, one of the first pictures there is what appears to be a 30 STANAG magazine, a more modern style magazine. But the last picture does show a bucket of M1 Garand clips, which are for the standard issue American rifle from 1936 to 1958, so during ww2 (as people in the replies pointed out, loudly, I have made many mistakes in this comment. I apologize for any confusion, I was only tried to help and I can tell by the replies, I have failed that task)
Load More Replies...its kinda sad because the old owner was probably deeply paranoid and spent the last years of their life constantly being afraid
Oh my. A burglar is in my house. I'll just totter down to the basement, find the room behind the fake wall, and get a weapon. And load it.
Load More Replies...The blue paint on the spoon of the grenade means that it is a dummy. The bottom should be drilled out of the body. Cannot see the rest but I'd imagine there may be some collector pieces worth quite a bit in there.
Your local gun shop should be able to purchase this - or - the EOD for your local PD to remove the items.
Go tell them on imgur 6 years ago when they posted it if you're that bothered.
Load More Replies....30-06 hunting rounds. That one ammo can is several hundered dollars. Just what is showing. Figure somewhere between $3 and $5 per round currently( per bullet). A very common hunting caliber.
Load More Replies...First, can you legally sell grenades in the US??? Second, don't you need a license to sell ammunitions in the US ?
Load More Replies...Probably should get rid of the explosives, but why would you get rid of the guns?!
Those clips are for an M1 Garand. I wonder if the rifle is there as well.
That would absolutely make my day. Not in a creepy way. Is there a non creepy way?
I don't know a lot about weapons and stuff, but I remember when I was a little girl, my father had a souvenir shell from when he served in Korea. He kept it in his workshop, high up out of reach. He told me never to touch it, because old ordnance is unstable... that's not what he said, but that's what he meant, and that I was never to touch anything that looked like a bullet, grenade or anything like it. Shouldn't someone check this stuff out?
The grenade is fake. Ammunition is different than ordinance. Ammunition has an almost indefinte shelf life. At worst, the ammo would be unsafe to fire but not unsafe to dispose of. Gun or smokeless powder does not degrade like explosives.
Load More Replies...If I type the name of the OP will that get censored or is this ok, too? :D
Don't call the police. They will take it and auction it off or officers will end up with new items in their collection. Bring in a firearms appraiser or similar to look it over. If there are any NFA items let them and or an attorney handle those properly. The rest can be auctioned to collectors potentially.
Load More Replies...Call 911 why? 911 is for emergencies. Call the police and donate any valuable collectors items to individual police officers private collections? Why? There was no crime. Call an expert on firearms and an appraiser. The police are not firearm experts. They know more about the legalitiea of the Use of Force. Most get the minimum amount of training for the job as firearms are, and should be the least used tool at their disposal.

There's A Multi-Room Dungeon/Cave In The Backyard Of The House I Rented
I rented this cool house in the hills of a Los Angeles suburb and there is a lot of DIY stonework on the property - little walls, an archway, steps and this dungeon built into the hill right behind the house. The history I've gathered is that a stonemason lived here for decades until he passed away from old age in the 90s, when the current owner purchased the property and began renting it. No one I've talked to knows what the dungeon was used for

I found a bunch of baby teeth individually wrapped in tissue paper, in a keepsake tin, figured the previous occupants--an elderly couple who had moved into an assisted living place--had simply forgotten them. I guessed that they had kept their kids'/grandkids' teeth as part of the "tooth fairy" thing. Got their new address from the landlord and mailed the box to them. Proud of my good deed, I mentioned it to Holly, my neighbor. "That's funny," she said. "They didn't have children."
Sooo, it's possible you just freaked out a lovely elderly couple by mailing them an unsolicited box of teeth? 🤨😀

This gives me so many good ideas of what to do in our crawl space and attic before we ever move out! Love it!
I learned from this that people like to leave teeth and dolls behind when moving.
We rent a converted storefront on the main street of "TrekTown." Building's about 100 years old. Thought there was a closet in the back corner of the living room when we first moved in... Turns out to be a stairwell that goes down to a brick-walled basement that's chronically damp and leaking. But the scary part is that there's this little closet-like room (no door) with a concrete slab bed (about 12" clearance beneath it, built straight into the wall) occupying most of the floor space. Whole room is about the size of a jail cell.
I should not have looked at this. I should not have looked at this. I SHOULD NOT HAVE LOOKED AT THIS! I don't believe in supernatural stuff, but I still get super creeped out by it. Now, I'm off to go find a post about cats.
Does anyone, the realtor or buyer, even go into these houses before they buy them?
The superstitious credulity expressed in these posts is what scares me, because it's a constant reminder that even in this supposed age of science and reason, vast swaths of humanity have intellectually barely advanced beyond cave dwellers. Let me try and help... Here's a list of things you should be wary of in life: Large carnivores and wild animals. People... Here's an incomplete list of things that are harmless and should not cause any kind of rational fear: Clowns. Dolls. Ouija boards (see following list). Rocking chairs. Attics. Basements. The dark. Old hospitals. Unidentified creaking sounds in an old house at night... Here's a list of things that do not exist, and so shouldn't ever worry you: Ghosts. Evil spirits. Demons. Witches. Curses. Aliens. (I would add other items to this last list, but I'm probably already going to be downvoted into oblivion).
Unidentified creaking sounds in an old house at night *could* be people or wild animals, so that one should be allowed to cause rational fear.
