Our homes are meant to be our safe spaces, where we unwind after a long day, eat, sleep, and take shelter from the chaos of the outside world. We make them our own and naturally assume we know every corner.

But for these people, that sense of comfort was shaken. One day, they stumbled upon something deeply disturbing hidden within their homes—so unsettling, they felt compelled to share it online.

Scroll down to see what they found. And maybe keep the lights on, just in case.

I Was Looking For Something In The Attic When I Found This

Bats clustered in an attic vent, a creepy discovery found hidden in a home after moving in.

Lucky you. Bats are great for getting rid of nasty biting insects. Here in the UK most bats are protected and you can't interfere with them without specialist guidance. Building/demolition projects will be delayed if the bat surveys find signs of bat occupation.

We invested in bat houses as we live surrounded by woods with a little stream. I've seen our bats flying with a snake in their grip! When we entertain outside - our guests aren't getting eaten alive by mosquitos either! Bats are remarkable creatures!

When my parents built their house on the river, I talked them into bat houses around the property. They have virtually zero mosquitoes.

Less than 1% of wild bats carry rabies, and human rabies cases are rare in the U.S.

You will have trouble with bat guano, it's not good for your home. You'll need a removal specialist because bats are rightly protected by law. They will recommend where to put bat houses so you keep the benefits of bats, and will install bat exclusion devices to keep them from reentering. The excluders must not k**l nursing bat pups, so must be installed before pupping season, (summer months) or before hibernation begins.

Bats are a lovely and vital part of a healthy biosphere. However, it is not healthy for them to be in your attic. Their droppings are highly acidic, will damage your flooring, and can contain microbes that are not a friendly addition to human lungs. It is best to seek out a reputable wild animal rescue/migration company to help move them someplace good for them and the humans. Bat boxes on or near your property would be an excellent way to help them stay safe and get the benefit of their environmental caretaking.

That is awesome! If you don't want them in your house, build some bat boxes outside for them. They're great at natural pest control.

This many dirt accumulated in the basement? I would suspect, it was not cleaned in decades. The footprints are most likely old, maybe from the previous owner.

Proverbs 3:13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; 3:14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold.3:15 She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. 3:16 Length of days is in her right hand, In her left hand riches and honor.3:17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.3:18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.3:19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens;3:20 By His knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.3:21 My son, let them not depart from your eyes—Keep sound wisdom and discretion; 3:22 So they will be life to your soul, And grace to your neck.3:23 Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble.3:24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet

Remember, the idea that Voodoo dolls used as an effigy to harm people was brought from England to the Caribbean. They didn't exist in that religion before that.

I'm not following your comment. I understood that Voodoo dolls (poppets) originated from the Fon people in Dahomey, presently known as the Republic of Benin, in West Africa. The Voodoo religion was practiced among slaves in Haiti and Louisiana from a blend of beliefs from their countries of origin.

This is NOT a "voodoo doll," please don't call it that! It is an nkisi nkondi, a power figure that offers divine protection, in the belief system of the Kongo peoples. And the head is quite beautifully carved.

    Footprint Found On Wall

Ceiling with hidden wooden hatch above doorway in a home.

My house is a poor man’s Victorian, it was built in 1893 and once or twice a year for the last 6 years I’ve lived here I magic erase the door frames, switches, windowsills during a seasonal deep clean.
Last October I was deep cleaning my home and noticed a footprint about 8’ up the wall under the attic. I remembered my partner had been doing some attic work in spring and figured it must’ve been left over from that. When he came home I asked him to wipe it up, since it was pretty inconsiderate to leave for 6+ months without offering as he’s usually pretty meticulous.
“Hey can you wipe that footprint off the wall above your office?”
He looked at me confused, “What footprint?”
I walked him up the stairs and pointed it out and he looked at it and back at me and flatly said “Why would I have been in the attic without shoes?” Which is a very him response, as he’s very stoic and exceptionally more prepared for anything that I am.
He goes “Are you pranking me?”
I wasn’t. We have no clue where the footprint came from or why it would be bare 7’ up.

Wonder how many births - deaths - marriages were recorded in that! Those were often much more accurate than even census records for tracking lineage because they were updated at the time of the event. That could be a treasure trove of information.

That's a WWII Japanese Army sword... I'm guessing you are in America...these were brought back by American GI's as trophies. By that point these were being factory produced and aren't the same quality as a handmade, hand folded sword. Still very cool and will definitely have some value to someone. Try militaria collectors rather than martial artists of you want to sell it. They will value it more highly.

Yeah. My parents used to have a very well taken care of house cat who spent nights in the heated garage as that was where his litter box was and he also tended to get in major mischief if left in the main house. If breakfast was served two seconds late, he would literally climb up the inside of the door frame and hang about 5 feet off the ground yelling his displeasure. Trim around the door had to be replaced after he passed away it was so shredded.

Okay, everyone should know that there is nothing at all to be afraid of from some silly thing like this. If, however, you choose to believe in "magic," then you have to accept the rules of magic.Despite what scary movies would have you believe, any kind of "spell" or "curse" can't have any kind of "effect" on any person who was not part of the original casting process. Even if someone used a bunch of old hair (probably from a vacuum cleaner) to cast a spell on someone else, that spell would be limited to the intended victim. In the realm of magic, one cannot cast a spell or curse to affect the whole world.

You are more likely to get a listeria infection from packaged salad than canned food because the latter is usually pasteurized, which kills the bacteria. I guess you're thinking of botulism. Now that is really worrisome because you can't see, smell, or taste a difference in the food itself, the only warning sign is gas buildup in the can that makes it bulge, but not always. If there is gas escaping from the can when opening, that's a sign to toss it.

Weirdly enough, holes can enhance the strength of a beam/joist. Iirc, it is 30 years ago and the most hated topic when studying civil engineering, it gets stronger because you have to factor in less of its own weight. Steel frame construction of bridges or roof supports of huge halls are an everyday example, plus they take advantage of the triangulars

Used to be used instead of toilet paper, not that these look used. Probably just a 'convenient' place to throw them since they are organic matter.

Firestarters! Or they had an extra-good harvest that year, and couldn't figure out where to store the overflow. Those kernels may still be viable -- in that case, a history group would be thrilled to have them.

    Wooden Panel Moved Again

A hidden compartment in a closet ceiling, discovered after moving in, with clothes hanging nearby.

Moved into this place 9 months ago. Maybe 3 months ago I noticed this wooden panel in my closet ajar. We checked, nothing up there unusual. Well we didn't actually enter but I took a quick video with the flash on. Well it was open again this morning. I do toss my clothes up into my closet but the panel is slide to the left not pushed back in the direction I throw my clothes.

OP: "Would be edit: I can't edit this post and I don't want to spam a new one so hopefully people find this. Theories so far 1)a frogger or whatever. Very unlikely they would probably die from the heat. 2) animals. Fairly likely but no evidence of any animals. No food gone, no droppings, no noice. Also we love in Tokyo much less likely for a raccoon to manage to get in our house 3) ghosts, most probable, I had ghost dreams the first few months 4) air current. Very probable.. however we live in a Japanese style building it's very drafty so that's not so much pressure as wind wiping through our place when we open all the windows. This will slam doors just not sure how it slids our panel to the left and only twice in 9 months. After my husband wakes up, we will slam some doors and play with air flow and see what we can do. Will probably tape it shut later"

I wasn't able to see inside the granny flat on the property I bought because it was being rented and the renter didn't give us access. I was supposed to see it one day, but the guy said at the last minute that he had to work and couldn't let us in. It was also during covid so scheduling was tough anyway, so I decided it didn't matter. I don't think I would have bought the place if I had seen inside, because the place was foul. The guy (who had a intellectual disability) had smoked inside so there were nicotine stains over all the walls and windows. He also had a cat who he obviously didn't clean up after very well. I had to remove all the carpets because p**s had ruined them. I still haven't cleaned the oven because I couldn't stomach it (as I live in the main house I don't need to use it).

    Notes In My Crawl Space

Worn cardboard notes with rules found hidden in new home, including no hitting and cleaning up messes. Creepy discoveries.

Outside of our little crawl space door, someone wrote "hi, Rudy!" on the wall. My husband and I regularly joke about living with Rudy. Like when my husband leaves the cabinet doors open or forgets his glass of milk inside the pantry for me to find in the morning and so on, we blame Rudy.

Today a plumber came by and had to go in the crawl space (which I am too much of a baby to enter myself) and he took pics to show me the pipes, totally ignoring these weird notes that were pinned to the walls!!
