Context is everything. Without it, some seemingly innocent images might not even make you do a double-take. But when you know more about what’s pictured, your reaction can be completely different. Raw. Visceral. Full of fear. On the other hand, some photos ooze evil and immediately turn on our fight or flight (or freeze or fawn) response.
Today, we’re featuring some of the creepiest photos ever taken, as shared on the immensely popular @fasc1nate account on X, formerly Twitter. Scroll down to take a peek at them, and be sure to share your thoughts on the photos in the comments at the bottom of this post.
Warning: this list is not for the faint of heart, as some topics are very sensitive.

The BBC notes that even some objectively ordinary things (e.g., dolls, clowns, mannequins) can have creepy connotations

According to Dr. Coltan Scrivner, a behavioral scientist and horror expert, the feeling of creepiness is something that almost anybody can resonate with. “If you say you’re creeped out, most people will know exactly what you mean.” It’s incredibly relatable.

That dust is still causing cancer. And I will never forgive, forget or pass an opportunity to remind folks that Republicans and Republicans only held up first responder healthcare funding. Firefighters died medically bankrupt because Republicans turned it into a political football for years. Years. If there is an objective good, you will find a christian conservative legislator in opposition. And while I should be used to it, this one still makes my blood boil.

Research shows that creepy things tend to be ambiguously threatening. A 2015 study into the psychological nature of creepiness found that it might arise in the gray area where things might or might not be dangerous.

Many people find things like mannequins, dolls, and clowns to be particularly creepy. They feel that these (objectively innocent) things have an underlying current of malevolence.

I have a degenerative neuromuscular disease. I have looked into the Sarco pod as well as places like Dignitas. I don't want to be trapped in a bed on a feeding tube, choking on my own saliva. If I live to that stage, it should be my choice. This picture isn't creepy, it's dignity.

This pod has not been used yet, even in countries where euthanasia is legal. There are still controversies about how painless it would really be and whether people would actually want to pass away in a capsule, separated from their loved ones.

Religion is the only thing stopping this from being widespread. This options should be available within a 50 mile radius to every human on earth. One should not have to travel thousands of miles to make a decision about their own body. People should be allowed to die with dignity, not suffer while they whither away.

We do. But I find the comparison problematic. I may make this decision for a cat but I would not want to make it for another human being. And I want to have the right to choose but I don't want anyone to decide for me.

Idiots "think" legalized euthanasia is about "killing granny for the inheritance", as if people are being forced into it. People who apply are screened and scrutinized to prevent it. Nearly all who choose it do so because they know their lives will never get better, only gradually worse, and choose not to suffer.

Yes please. I think counselling before hand might be a good idea to check no one feels coerced, but this needs to be an available option. No one should have to live out their last months or years in pain, dependency and indignity. We would have mercy on an animal, we should have the same mercy for human beings.

For those against this type of Suicide: My Grandpa was a tough a*s WWII Veteran, that NEVER smoked a day in his life. He still managed to have COPD, Emphysema and battled Lung Cancer, because when he came home from the war he had a job in Construction that used Asbestos and Lead Paint. He committed suicide by using a shotgun in 1995, because he couldn't stand to live being so sick that he couldn't leave his and Grandma's house. FYI committing suicide via shotgun is probably one of the most f****d up ways to die. I've lost a total of 5 family members to suicide via gun and they were all Veterans of WWII, Vietnam and Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

First, it's meant for people with documented physical illnesses that will never, can never, get better. Second, you would have to be certified of sound mind before being given access. Oregon already has physician assisted euthanasia, and there are limitations and psychological checks in place. This, if it were ever available, would work the same way. Depressives and other people with mental illness would never be given approved access to such a machine. And if they broke into a hospital to use one, how is that any different from them deciding to bleed out in the bathtub or shoot themselves at home? It would still be an unpreventable violent suicide.

The incurably ill and elderly should have the right to decide for themselves when they are ready to leave. There is no reason that anyone should have to remain suffering physically, mentally, and economically because they are not given a chance to peacefully end their life.

Having the choice to choose your time when you have a terminal illness should be a legal right for every human. It doesn't stop that person choosing to fight their illness, but many would rather choose to go before they are no longer themselves. Watching many members of my family pass from cancer I've seen both types and the end is the same for both - its ugly, it's painful, it's degrading and it torture for people to keep them alive against their will.

Honestly, I don't even think this should be limited to those with incurable terminal illnesses. It's YOUR life. You should absolutely be in control of when it ends, period. Either you have the right to bodily autonomy or you don't. There's no in-between.

The human body cannot detect a lack of oxygen. The feeling of suffocating comes when we detect high levels of carbon dioxide. So long as carbon dioxide is being removed we do not feel suffocated, the body just drifts off.

Nope. This is not OK. Playing God with people's lives. They've made it way too easy to kill yourself. A very close friend of mine with mental issues wants to end it. I see her using this as a way of getting attention. She creates drama to bypass getting help with dealing with her issues of being abused. The system is willing to skip a valid mental evaluation and just let her kill herself. This is NOT right. The system is corrupt to the core.

this isn't like suffocating, it happens so fast the body doesn't have time to panic. it would be like a carbon monoxide or helium overdose, where you simply drift off because your body doesn't have enough oxygen to remain awake.

Dr. Scrivener told BBC Bitesize that in real life, clowns paint on smiles, but on TV, dangerous clowns often paint on frowns. “This sends mixed ideas about whether they’re actually safe,” the scientist explained.

Meanwhile, clowns, dolls, and mannequins can scare some folks because of the uncanny valley phenomenon. In short, it’s related to how people feel uncomfortable when they see something that looks almost like a human being… but not quite.

From Wiki: The Dyatlov Pass incident is an event in which nine Soviet hikers died in the northern Ural Mountains between February 1 and 2, 1959, under uncertain circumstances. The experienced trekking group from the Ural Polytechnical Institute, led by Igor Dyatlov, had established a camp on the eastern slopes of Kholat Syakhl in the Russian SFSR of the Soviet Union. Overnight, something caused them to cut their way out of their tent and flee the campsite while inadequately dressed for the heavy snowfall and subzero temperatures.

Music, sounds, and silence can have a similar effect. However, context is vital here. “When a door creaks open that’s only creepy when you’re by yourself. It signals that something or someone may be pushing it slowly,” the scientist pointed out.

I have read a lot of books about serial killers. Albert Fish is pretty much up there as one of, if not the worst. He murdered and ate at least one child.

Other students at the school said it was common for athletes to put their shoes behind or inside the rolled-up gym mats, so one of the theories is that Kendrick leaped/slid into the rolled-up mat to retrieve his shoes, got stuck, went unnoticed, and asphyxiated.
