A sense of entitlement is a personality characteristic that's not exclusive to spoiled kids. The belief that you deserve special treatment or recognition for something you haven't earned can be quite universal.

And the subreddit which we will call 'Entitled Batch' can prove it — this online community is dedicated to shaming people who think they can always get their own way and are better than everyone else.

The moderators, however, point out in its 'About' section that the sub "in no way intends to spread hate or abuse or to offend any party, it was created for story sharing and entertainment."

Since its inception in December 2018, it has amassed quite the collection. Here are some of the most popular posts that have appeared on the sub since our last publication on it.

If a person isn't behaving as badly as these folks and you aren't sure whether they might have a sense of entitlement, experts suggest going through the following characteristics and seeing if they apply:

  • People with a sense of entitlement expect to get preferential treatment and special favors in life, without regard for why they should be treated specially. They assume "the world owes me." For instance, they might feel that the policies of an organization should not apply to them because they should be treated with special favors.
  • Regardless of what they have, they strongly believe that they deserve more. They expect to elevate their lifestyle above that of others without putting in the effort needed to do so.

  • When they reach a certain level of success, they feel that everyone should bend over backward to help them. If someone has a problem with them or does not agree with what they are doing, they will try to make the other party feel as if they are wrong and that it is a horrible thing to disagree with them.
  • Their personal needs come before everyone else's needs. They believe that it is your job to ensure they have everything they need, even if this means that you have to sacrifice taking care of yourself.

  • They're very dramatic when something does not go their way. In these cases, they might try to make themselves look better by bringing you down.
  • They are not grateful for what they have in their life. A person with a sense of entitlement may not say thank you or show other signs of appreciation for what they have. This is because they believe it is their right to have everything, so they don't value anything.

  • A sense of entitlement tends to be spread across their entire life. Someone who acts this way about one thing is likely to act the same way in other situations as well. They may be greedy or will take friends for granted instead of being appreciative.
  • They act like victims and blame other people or outside forces for their problems. Again, someone with this attitude believes the world owes them and that other people are responsible for making their lives better.
  • But if you read through the list and remain unsure, look them up on the subreddit 'Entitled Batch'. If they're not here, maybe they aren't that bad, eh?

That's exactly what happened in my family. "Excuse me, you're newborn (not even a day old) daughter's middle name is the name I wanted to use for my daughter that I don't even have, neither am I pregnant." I still don't get it

I guess she never heard of Mary Kay cosmetics? She was born Mary Kay Ash, born in 1918.

This is very stupid. There are about more than a thousand Kay's in this world, so the parent's gonna ask why are they all named Kay, or what?

Kenzie Kay - tell me their last name starts with K as well because those initials sound apt.

Well, my FIRST name is Kathryn, and one of the diminutives of my name is Kay. In fact, my mother’s name was also Kathryn, and when she was in high school, her nickname was Kay—-and she graduated in 1938, so has an 80 year jump on you. So STOP copying my mother, Kenzie’s mom!! (/s)

"no one started naming their daughter's middle name Kay" - like EVER? It was only after your daughter was born that the trend began? Huh. Great Aunt Mary Kay would be really surprised to learn that, considering she was born in 1934.

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, surely it should be good if they think everyone copies their name. Imagine your life being such an empty void you get offended about a stranger's middle name.

That's mainly bc parents don't quite notice how many other kids share names/birthdays etc. until they actually start paying attention.

What's with people making a fit over naming their children the same thing. My parents just picked a new name when a neighbour kid moved in with the same name they picked for me. I prefer my name now, but I haven't seen that girl since I was 3. So who cares.

Frequency illusion or frequency bias, is a cognitive bias in which, after noticing something for the first time, there is a tendency to notice it more often, leading someone to believe that it has a high frequency (a form of selection bias).
