Karen Purposefully Puts Coworker’s Health At Risk As She Doesn’t Believe They’re Sick, Gets Fired

For the most part, dealing with an entitled person means taking the high road and being the bigger person. However, some people take their disrespectful behavior to another level, which may require more drastic responses

A “Karen” employee constantly harassed her coworker for having a service dog. Her seeming annoyance toward the situation pushed her to dox her colleague and spread potentially damaging rumors online.

Her actions eventually led to her termination from the company. However, her friends and family continued to torment the employee for “getting a mother of three fired over a dog.” Read the full story below.

Doxing carries damaging consequences for the victim

The author’s last straw was when the entitled coworker began posting their personal information online. This is known as “doxing” in today’s digital world.

According to cybersecurity and anti-virus company Kaspersky, doxing involves revealing a person’s name and workplace details, which the woman in the story did. Other sensitive information includes home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, and bank account information.

Many people who dox another person may not realize how damaging their actions can be. Apart from cyberbullying, sharing personal information may lead to identity theft, death threats, and in-person harassment, which may lead to physical violence.

SafeHome estimates that around 11 million Americans have been victims of doxing and points to personal disputes as one of the leading causes. A study by the company also revealed some consequences, which include mental health issues like depression.

Likewise, a victim of doxing may also experience money struggles, especially if they’ve been subjected to financial fraud. In such cases, the person may also have to jump through hoops to prove their innocence to governing bodies like the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Victims of doxing must take action within the first 24 hours

Taking immediate action is necessary for people who’ve been victims of doxing. OnlineSOS founder Liz Lee states personal safety should be the utmost priority.

In an article for Medium, Lee’s first advice is to gather and save all the evidence you can collect. This includes taking screenshots with the date and URL. She also advises against deleting anything, as it can hinder you from taking legal action.

“All evidence helps. Even if evidence includes content you may regret writing yourself, save it,” she wrote.

Within the next few hours, the following steps involve telling someone you trust or a person in authority. If you choose the latter, Lee advises anticipating important questions like “Who do you think is behind this?” or “Why do you think you’re being targeted?”

Monitoring the situation is also crucial to damage control. According to Stanford University IT, you may request the takedown of the statements made against you. But if that doesn’t work, you can escalate the situation to appropriate authorities and safety groups.

The author took the necessary steps by taking screenshots and using them as evidence to file a complaint against the entitled coworker. Meanwhile, the Karen employee deserved the consequences implemented against her for publishing her colleague’s personal information and putting them in potential danger.

I don't understand the attitude of the YTA id**t. Nobody is inconvenienced by the presence of a service dog (apart from people with allergies, maybe). And I'm quite sure nobody 'suffers' from it. According to this sh**ty comment it seems to be okay to cause someone with a severe medical condition to pass out and eventually die, though. At least this bulls**t was downvoted to the core of the earth.

On a slightly related note: there's a person in my class that has a service dog, but it doesn't seem like a 'legit' service dog because it doesn't seem to listen to classmate's instruction very well (e.g. to lie down) and it will kick over its water bowl and will sometimes lick random people that pass it, for example. This annoys me, because I'm autistic and while I do not object to service dogs being in communal spaces, I just get cognitive dissonance looking at this dog...

That dog is absolutely not a service dog. If it is licking people, it's not "working" at its service job/task, whatever that might be. Actual, trained service dogs focus on their task and are trained to not be distracted by food, people, or other animals. It sounds like the dog is a disruption in class.

Why do you "feel horrible"? I know, cuz you're a nice person, but really? She was trying to get YOU fired, or trigger your health issues to try to make you sick or drive you out of the job. Horrible people who say horrible things and do horrible acts do not get to whine when their horrible acts result in real world consequences. Forgive yourself (you did NOTHING wrong in ANY way) and hug Max for protecting you. Haters gotta hate. You can't change toxic people.

Prosecution would have been even better than firing. People like "Karen" need to be taught a lesson about minding their own business and not interfering with working dogs. We can only hope she tries the same stunt at the airport with a d***s/security dog.

I hope the person who wrote YTA is put in the same situation as the poster. Then they can be an incovenience to others and let someone harass them endlessly. As if the poster has any control over the fat that a medical issue is involved. Same person probably doesn't believe that allergies like food can kill someone and would endanger someone else with that stupid attitude. Hope karma comes to get you Electrichead64

FAFO, NTA, doxxing needs to be stopped, and deliberately causing a health episode for OP was assault at minimum, attempted murder at worst, due to her health issue, needs former employee should have had these incidents reported to the police. Disabilities know no boundaries, they can affect some from birth, some become disabled due to accident, and others can become beset with them from illnesses, there's so many ways to become disabled, just as there are a variety of people in the world. The people most commonly discriminated against often have "invisible" disabilities, like I do, and the OP. We fight constantly for our rights, and someone mentioned the employer could have been sued for a variety of issues if they had not stepped in and fired the harassing employee, true, but the federal laws stipulated in the ADA are pretty weak, and need strengthening. Mandated reporters need to actually report health threats. When they don't, abusers get away with crimes.

Trying to cause someone to have a medical incident to prove they have it is assault. It would be like eating nuts around someone with an allergy because you don't believe them. She deliberately triggered a medical response. Instant dismissal. I would have probably have filed a police report. F**k her kids, maybe now they won't be utter c***s like their mother.

Once again, the YTA fuggnuts are letting their fingers work before their brains. The office busybody was obviously provoking OP and Max to the point of possibly releasing sensitive information. I'm surprised she wasn't hit with a lawsuit for pretty much almost enabling identity theft or worse. Max wasn't allowed to bite her but karma certainly did. As for her equally sh*tbag friends and family, I hope they get served with a warning or worse if they continue to harass OP. Karma did OP and Max a service by unleashing the HR hounds of justice on that moronic busybody. SMH!!!

As a cheery note: a happy dog story. I attended a small employee fair about accommodating disabilities. There was a calm friendly dog that I petted. I asked the woman next to it, "Is it an emotional support dog?" She smiled and said, "No, it's my seeing eye dog. But when my colleagues get stressed out, they sometimes come over and use it for emotional support."

No wonder HR got rid. Even if there had been no past bad behaviour on the woman's part, she had created a hostile environment, bullied a colleague, shared images taken in the workplace online as part of the harassment, and put OP at risk of medical episodes on multiple occasions. On their own, maybe cause for warning, collectively it is significant evidence and (particularly with the triggering medical episodes) non-action could have made the employer liable if something did happen to OP.

She's "faking" her disability? I don't need to know all the details to realize it requires FAR more than a doctor's note to be eligible to receive a dog that costs up to $30000 to train. Hell, I can't even train my dog to quit trying to grab stuff out of the refrigerator every time I open the door.

I don't understand the point of this post. Don't get me wrong, she's obviously Nta but there was no reason to post this in AITA. No one in their right mind would actually think they are the AH in this situation, so why look for validation. Post it on another sub reddit that like, tells stories about horrible people getting karma or something. It doesn't really feel relevant to this subreddit and feels like it was just engagement bait, posting it on the most popular subreddit for upvotes which is why I'm always so hesitant to believe these internet stories.

the only fault i find with OP (based on what was written) was that she did not file complaints with the local police for the doxxing and anti ADA harassment. and that last YTA comment- OH did it make my blood boil. Society is NOT suppose to be built for the common denominator, but for EVERYONE. that YTA guy is a total ableist. EDIT: also also, OP, you did not do ANYTHING wrong. Why can't people mind their own business. If was at work and someone had a dog, I'd assume they must have been vetted through HR and HR determined it was fine. That's part of their job, no? If dogs aren't allowed, no one is going to let OP just walk around with their dog every day. If they ARE walking around with their dog every day, then it must be okay for them. And it isn't my job to play detective and try to get them outed as fake. People like Karen are seriously unhappy people with way too much time on their hands.

Open a civil suit, list in the Complaint everything about why the medical condition is so serious, and every instance of Karen trying to exacerbate the medical condition, plus the proof of harassment and proof of Karen's termination for harassment. Email copy of complaint back to everyone who emailed OP abuse, stating if they wish, she can add their names to the lawsuit as Defendants for harassment too. Karen's friends will abandon her once they read how awful she's being/breaching federal law, and to ensure they're not dragged into her mess. Full vindictiveness would involve going door-to-door in Karen's neighborhood asking if any residents have had any problems with their service animals and Karen, invite them to join your lawsuit against her, and provide a copy of the Complaint to the neighbors for their information. Ruin her social circle and her neighborhood community ties (possibly church ties too if a neighbor spreads the Complaint among Karen's religious community).

Downvoting because of 3/4 of this. Putting together a complaint? Yes totally. the rest of it? NOPE... because that (depending on jurisdiction) could get OP hit with a harassment suit herself. and this Karen seems like the type to do it (I would put together everything as a complaint and hand it over to HR an authorities)

NTA, OP did not get Karen fired, Karen got herself fired for being a giant A-hole. I'd feel worse for her kids having to live with her as a mother than Karen getting fired.

The co-worker deserved what she got. She probably spent more time trying to get OP and her service dog out of the building instead of just doing her job and minding her own business.

HR needs to know about the family/friends emails and assist in getting those blocked. OP should report continued harassment to police.

The woman chose her actions and in for doing so, she chose the fallout for those actions. She has nobody to blame for her unemployment but her own self. (also Service Animals are 100% important).

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. This falls under the ADA. The business would be open to huge liability for not firing her. If the Karen lacks even this basic level of intelligence, her family will suffer no matter what.

I'm certain this is the first time she's harassed other employees. I just can't comprehend a mother of three can be so quick to judged and very vindictive with zero compassion. HR did the right by terminating Karen's employment.

I just can't imagine someone hating on a specific thing that makes their life hell. This was a dog! What a horrible POS this woman is! And her children will be taught how to make others life a misery, usually end up being bullies. I'm not saying her children are, but it's a slippery slope into that mindset

the only fault i find with OP (based on what was written) was that she did not file complaints with the local police for the doxxing and anti ADA harassment. and that last YTA comment- OH did it make my blood boil. Society is NOT suppose to be built for the common denominator, but for EVERYONE. that YTA guy is a total ableist. EDIT: also also, OP, you did not do ANYTHING wrong. Karen played stupid games and won a stupid prize. If she wasn't so hyperfocused on you she could have handled this better -- but obviously she just cares about herself and not her kids.
