29 Illustrations By Iranian Artist Show The Harsh Reality Of Doctors During Coronavirus Outbreak
Nobody expected 2020 to be like this. All media channels encouraging people to stay at home. All theaters, cinemas, gyms, and museums being closed. All hospitals around the world filled with people, some even unable to help others. It seems like everything has stopped in the great pandemic of the 21st century—coronavirus. One artist decided to show us how to adapt to these uneasy and extreme times.

Could we somehow coordinate a response from hospitality and chain restaurants too? For major hospitals in the cities like Boston, New York City/Manhattan, Chicago there shouldn’t be too many tourists or people staying out of town. Healthcare providers and people working on the frontlines bring that risk back home. Having disinfection protocols once leaving those facilities and upon entering hotels/motels/field camps would mitigate the spread and provide them with places to stay, and decrease food they throw out and is a good publicity opportunity.
I feel this needs a little context as some may not realize the significance of the items on the cart or the image. This is meant to show a Haft Seen. The Haft Seen is a traditional display of items signifying spring and rebirth. For Iranians, the first day of spring is also the start of the new year, Nowruz, and so it occurred during this crisis. Nowruz is meant to be a time of celebration and family, not being in quarantine in a hospital bed. This is meant to show doctors doing what they can to make patients feel more at home and bring what little comfort they can during a time that that is meant to be joyful.
My heart loves this.. the scientist in me rails at the shadow angles
I really like the shadow showing the angel wings! Bless all those doctors, nurses and others taking care of us during this terrible time.
Patrick you keep saying rude things about every picture, why did you even go on this page?
Load More Replies...im not trying to be rude or anything, but the eyes are all completly white... just the way they were drawn or somthing else?
39-year-old Iranian artist Alireza Pakdel creates mindful illustrations that reflect on the world’s current situation and show how to fight the spread of this invisible enemy. His illustrations capture the harsh reality of those who sacrifice themselves to take care of us—doctors, policemen, firemen, and nurses. They are the protagonists of these illustrations that we must respect.
No, but clearly you have. We get it. You hate everyone and everything. Now just STFU and eat your vegetables. I hate bratty children!
Load More Replies...My teacher made a bet with the a special ed student in my class that if he did all his homework he could be called grim. As in grim reaper. He’s goth.
My sister works in the ER. The hospital just told the staff that if they are exposed to Corona virus, they are to continue working, and cannot leave until they start showing symptoms. This plus no PPE ( Personal Protection Equipment ) is technically Human Endangerment. She could get fired for speaking publicly. Guys, if you or someone you know is having to work in these conditions, go to the news and let them know, but anonymous. This is perhaps the best way to get a company under fire.
Alas, that is the situation doctors in the UK are finding themselves in too... I do NOT envy them.
I don't want to be an alarmist here or any of that mashugana stuff you know.
Patrick McKemie Can you literally just go crawl back into your snake hole
Load More Replies...Pakdel masterfully highlights the power of solidarity, empathy, and protection for one another. His characters convey all kinds of feelings and appeal to surreal, imaginary situations that reflect on today’s world—a group of doctors holding the arrows of the clock to wait for the vaccine, a doctor and a nurse trying to break the chain of the coronavirus from a patient’s hand, and another doctor sacrificing himself to defend a group of patients from the deadly virus.
They lay down their lives so people can cross from the side of disease and being sick to healthy. Putting their bodies on the line for each other and the public, both the path and mode towards recovery. There are healthcare providers falling ill and dying as we speak, the sacrifice of the body.
This one made me tear up. Our health care workers really are carrying so many on their backs. A huge thank you to all the health care workers everywhere!
The doctors and other medical staff are the 'Bridge to Survival"... heroic what they have to deal with.
This one really hits home. They are literally risking their lives so don’t complain about social isolation. There are so many love languages and ways to communicate. Use this time to figure out yourself and do what you’ve been putting off/meaning to do. Unfortunately, it sucks that for many poverty can be scarier than disease. The numbers, the economy will be much worse off if we lose our spirit and loved ones. How can you expect us to work and stimulate the global economy when we have lost faith in our governments? Having a lull and shutdown of a few months is better than losing the ones we love and continuing the spread of disease, which over time is worse off for the economy and global unity by adding to quarantine times, fear, racism, and etc... Get tests out there! Work together and share the research.
Doctors are bridges that people walk on to be protected from the chasm of the coronavirus.
Load More Replies...I didn't think a comment on Bored Panda could make me cry, I guess I was wrong :C
Load More Replies...Sorry I just want to see what stupid thing he's said. It's like a 3 year old talking
Load More Replies...Is it weird that I've never heard of the watermelon rubber band challenge? I feel like I gotta know now
Yeah I haven't either, but now I'm curious lol.
Load More Replies...I think a lot of people do not know the difference between a viral and bacterial infection... They think they can 'just' be given some meds(including antibiotics) and they'll recover. Many people here in the UK are not taking the threat seriously...
Even after we recover from this, a bacterial resistance war is in progress and impending. Keep up the personal hygiene folks and stop requesting antibiotics for viral infections. Vaccinate for what you can.
Load More Replies...Is it weird this reminded me of the watermelon rubberband challenge??
trying to put so much tension on the watermelon that it breaks can be compared to concurring the coronavirus
Load More Replies...Please don't hate on me I thought when I first saw this picture they were attacking each other. Please don't hate me my eyes are really bad
These illustrations are poignant and their messages are clear, but can someone please explain this one though?
We praise the nurses and the doctors. But don't forget about them. The janitors and custodians are working harder than ever to slow the virus spread.
We really forget. They have to be better protected and given more benefits. All professions should have liveable wages, and corporations have to stop being insensitive vampires. Thank you for everyone able to work. I know it’s easier in theory to try to claim unemployment or justify going to work to keep mouths fed or forcing someone to work even though they are sick, but that’s seriously misguided and contribute to a growing problem and burdening the systems. Also, limit your shopping and have one person do it for multiple families to limit exposure and the crowds. Don’t leave the house just to have something to do, take a walk while maintaining social distancing outside.
Load More Replies...This one is by far, the best of all. The people on cleaning and mantenance are strugling and normally they're the forgotten ones in their collaboration during the emergency
Yes, it is buying time.. so hospitals can prepare and aren't swamped over capacity.
Load More Replies...Yes, we’re buying time as to not overwhelm the medical work providers. A second wave is very likely, so mass testing needs to be done and people shouldn’t be stupid like relaxing on hygiene or immediately celebrating. Sorry Italians, but running from North to South knowing that a quarantine was looming was not the best idea. For people returning to their respective countries, the airlines and crisis lines should have coordinated with officials to set up temporary facilities until incubation periods are over and testing comes back negative after some time, not immediately. Or at the very least temperature checks. Those who were asked to be careful and diligent, ughhh why? The people under 40 (socializing and partying; not because of work) who thought they would be fine, you’re taking up space in the ICU that can be used for vulnerable patients. Now you’ll make up the majority in the upcoming weeks. We’re all learning, but that was seriously misguided. Please apologize to the germaphobic
Isolation is the only way to stop a virus from spreading... it is biologically driven to seek out hosts. The greater the number the available hosts (in this case human beings) the greater the spread.
The people at war are saving people's lives in their own country, don't be blind.
Load More Replies...no they mean its like war against the coronavirus
Load More Replies...Yeah I tried to do it too, its even sadder to me that there's no way out :(
Load More Replies...The explanation says it’s “—a group of doctors holding the arrows of the clock to wait for the vaccine”
Could also be looked at as "Trying to hold back the hands of time"
Load More Replies...It feels like a desperate attempt to stall time, and they need more hands on deck. At what other time can you do the right thing by staying at home and lounging around watching Netflix? Also, get vaccinated and stop people from trying to claim religious reasons to get out of it. You’re literally depending on others for herd immunity you selfish jerk. Don’t spread idiocy. This will be a problem for a long time; it’s exposed to the global population. The longer it stays and is left untreated, the more chances it can mutate. Its mutation rate seems slower and doesn’t seem to ceckme more dangerous for the time being. Don’t add a flu outbreak to this pandemic, not at this time, not any other time in the future.
They're trying to find cure as soon as possible to reduce the infected individuals.
People we need to stay home it’s only spreading and we the citizens are making it worse
My county recently went under lockdown because no one was social distancing, staying home if possible, etc.
i get the meaning. but the car is so small the trap would do nothing...like I get it and its true, going outside especially in some places is just a death sentence. but the trap would go right over the car.
The job of every healthcare worker -- spread joy and fight the virus!
It is "Samani" we call in Azerbaijan, we plant it or decorate our rooms in Novruz- for celebration of spring arrival. As well as novruz symbolisez the new year in the past. Iran, Azerbaijan and other nations in the Central Asia celebrate this festivity since over 2 thousands ago... It resembles Pasqua-Easter in Western countries.
it's "sabze" from "haft sin".also look here :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haft-sin
Load More Replies...Not if they lived together with the family from the beginning. Households with several generations under one roof/in one flat are not so uncommon...
Load More Replies...IT'S CAUSE THEY LEFT THE HOUSE. don't leave the fricking house how many times do people say this?
Load More Replies...Even if you leave home with the mask on, it won't be as safe as staying home. It's still risky. You can accidentally touch the outside of mask and rub your skin elsewhere. You might touch the surface of an infected place and touch your skin elsewhere before washing hands.
Family have left home and feel protected by owning a mask but it hasn't been used correctly thus offering a false sense of hope or security
the book is quran .and in iranian culture when someone is leaving if you pour some water on their footsteps they will come back safe.it's all about safety.
Load More Replies...There have been a lot of charlatans telling people they have a cure (I don't know who the Iranian equivalent of Jim Baker is, but I guess some exist). There is no cure yet, just treatment for the symptoms and methods for keeping yourself safe until there is a specific treatment and/or vaccine.
there's a lot of superstitious b******t solutions to the coronavirus suggested by clerics. for example dried female donkey s**t (not even kidding) so this guy is trying them all and the virus is like WTF?
Load More Replies...it doesn't matter what exactly it says. as long as you understand he's saying "i'll do whatever i want, without any cares". and the virus about to infect him is looking at him as though he's lost his mind.
Load More Replies...Him not caring and going outside, left the door open for the virus to get into the house and take a member of his family...
I hope this helps Americans feel more connected to people around the world, especially since the US and Iran have a tense relationship. We're all just people, and while we're probably not going to be singing "kumbaya" together any time soon, perhaps we can stop supporting politicians who want a war. I'm not paying taxes to hurt other people, and I'm not supporting another endless war. These are families just like ours dealing with death and fear just like ours.
Well said Lou! I wish I could click your up arrow 99 more times...
Load More Replies...Excellent representations!! Well done. One question. What are the bundles of green vegetation tied up with a red ribbon?
Something like a Christmas tree.. But Iranian version.. Because it's Iranian new year
Load More Replies...Wow! This proves how much, facing a real threat, Iran or occidental countries are not so different: doctors and nurses are heroes!
These are awesome! However, keep in mind, as well as the emergency staff, other heros such as janitors, teachers, and even cashiers, and delivery people deserve to be recognized! We all play a part in the situation, so let's make sure that our part is good.
these are great and a good way to help us remember the people who are working to keep us safe
