50 Times People Had Awesome Design Ideas And They Got Executed Perfectly, As Shared On This Online Community (New Pics)
We are surrounded by items, buildings, and even software that was designed one way or another. It tends to stick out when something is so poorly considered that we have to stop and wonder “what were they thinking?” Fortunately, most of the things around us conform to our expectations. A table is a table and a street sign is a street sign.
However, every once and a while, creative people make a novel take on a conventional object. So scroll down and enjoy this list of innovative and cool ideas people have made into reality. And if this article doesn’t scratch your awesome design itch, check out Bored Panda’s other collections here, here, and here. And if you want something a bit different, check out our list of terrible designs here.

Shark Culling Laws Poster
Get rid of shark nets as well. They don't protect the beaches because sharks can swim over the top of them. They end up killing so many different sea creatures which get tangled up in them.
The ocean is HOME to many amazing animals. Swim at your own risk, people!! WE are trespassing into THEIR territory. If you want a safe swim, then swim in a damn pool. It’s SO UNFAIR that these animals get caught in these nets and DIE, just so people can “have a good time at the beach”. 💔
Load More Replies...“I truly, and to this day, regret the decimation of the shark population because of the book and the film. I really, truly regret that,” Spielberg
Sadly there are many dishes around the world that use sharks, for example shark fin soup. I believe this is the reason most sharks are killed, and it is legal due to high demand. :(
Load More Replies...Park Bench With Built In Shelter For The Homeless
I hate those things! Homeless people shouldn't be seen as lesser, and nobody should need to pay to sit down!
Load More Replies...Or better yet, universal housing as a human right.
Load More Replies...Any time the homeless try to make a "home" on the streets and doing their best people b***h about it. Where are they supposed to go? A lot of folks are homeless due to Covid, losing their jobs, their homes and some have all 3. Anyone living paycheck to paycheck could be out on the street's at anytime. We need to figure out what to do.
People shouldn’t have to make a home on the streets at all. I would like to b***h about this. People should have access to housing. Especially all this empty housing that short term rentals have created.
Load More Replies...What a great idea I know a lot of people have issues with the homeless but they are human beings just like the rest of us. Many of these people have mental health problems or just can't find a place in society. Remember some have left abusive home lives and be patient, if you offer a drink such as coffee tea or soup especially in the cold winter months. I worked in heath care for most of my working life and have heard so many tragic stories.
There are more and more families around the Seattle area who are ending up homeless just because the price of housing has become so outrageous. And then the landlords are some of the worst at whining about the homeless around them. Suck it up. You created this mess by being greedy.
Load More Replies...It’s about time. Many European countries have ‘pods’ that the homeless can live in or some intended as temporary shelters. Since it isn’t ‘profitable’ in North America to address homelessness this will likely never be utilized here. There was a rather famous case in Toronto of a carpenter creating shelters, ( scaled down tiny homes) and he was issued an order to stop building them as well as being faced with a steep fine if he did not comply. Instead, the homeless must be treated as though they are subhuman, crammed into dirty, dangerous shelters where violence, bedbugs, lice fleas and theft is rampant.
Many homeless people are employed, they just aren't paid a living wage.
Convenient Simple Storage

Load More Replies...If this list leaves you particularly inspired, maybe to make some changes around your own home, it can be helpful to approach an area holistically. Or, to put it another way, to have a comprehensive, unified plan. Keeping to the design tenants of a specific style can really help bring a space together and make it look more cohesive. Let’s take a look at Scandinavian design as an example.
First and foremost, think about local, natural materials. We associate Scandinavian furniture and houses with wood, no doubt harvested in some primeval pine forests. But the core idea is to use local materials to establish a sense of place and style. This extends to building techniques as well, as most traditional architecture is firstly functional. French doors do not help insulate a house while thatched roofs are probably too warm for southern climates.

Child Safety Awareness Ad
As a pet parent, this also applies to our furred children! Even some everyday foods and objects can be toxic or fatal to our cats and dogs. Awareness all around! :D
Load More Replies...Hey, that was ours! It was a lenticular poster, the image depended on the angle of view. There was a TV commercial as well.
My mom was in a group of other mom's to take to task Mr. Yuck sticker's. The problem was what would happen if you didn't have the stickers on everything and kids thinking it was ok. I think all companies with toxic item's should put big warnings on the bottles. Something children are afraid of. A troll, a clown, or just Mr. Yuck printed on the bottle in several places. I mean a scary clown reaching out to grab you if you touch the bottle. Yikes!!!Am I alone?? LOL!! Sh*t now I have the song in my head singing I think I'm a lone now doesn't .........!
Maybe not something children will get nightmares from. It would be enough to print a red stop sign or a Hand or similar on it (like the official signs for danger). Parents are given too much slack here. Either lock those things away or teach your children to not touch that stuff. Children are not stupid. You just need to put a bit of effort in. Edit: thinking about it, there are probably too many idiot parents out there, so go ahead and make that stuff as unappealing to young children as possible

Scandinavian design also prioritizes functionality, which is often, subtly, emphasized by the use of neutral colors. Small wonder that the creators of Lego would approach furniture with an eye for practicality. Sometimes this does express itself as a sort of minimalism as one might see in an Ikea catalog. But there are myriad examples of more decorative or flashy items made by acclaimed Scandinavian designers that are also in keeping with the style's core tenants.
Paint Sample Cubes, Instead Of Flat Swatches, So You Can See The Colors With Shadows
Ooh that's cool instead of buying fifty million samples and waiting for them to dry
Only about 200x more expensive (and wasteful, when colours change next season --- which is a nonsense in itself, but that's another matter). So, not a fan.
I dunno about you, but in my home Depot the paint colors don't change out every season. At least it's not all of them, there might be a few that I don't notice. I know because every time I go I end up looking at paint colors lol. If I go to an actual paint store, it might be different. But they do mix the paint at Home Depot
Load More Replies...What's great about this is that this let's you see how the colors are going to look at different times of the day and how two corner walls are going to look side by side given light will be hitting them at different angles.
I work in a paint store and we have this display. Very popular with customers

Load More Replies...Seatbelt saved me - whatever kind of ad it will take to make people figure out how important they are is the best one to me
Me too. Kept me from going through the windshield.
Load More Replies...ALWAYS been a rule of mine. As a teenager when I got my first car, I always told everyone to put seatbelts on! I wasn't leaving until you did and if you just really really didn't want to wear one you had to get out of my car! No joke. Takes a second and don't even notice you're wearing it most of the time. BONUS..... It will save your life of God forbid we were ever in a wreck. Still a rule to this day but with my kids instead 😊😊♥️
Of course, it's a flat chest. Seatbelts hurt those of us with chests, and women are more likely to be killed by their seatbelts than men. Redesign seatbelts for women, please!
Have worn them for over 60 years. When my folks bought a 1961 VW bug they had seatbelts installed and I insisted on adding them in the back seat of the 1959 Mercedes we inherited in 1985. (it already had front ones) I wasn't allowed to ride in the front seat as a kid before there were seat belts. Anyone remember those dangerous baby seats that just hung over the bench front seats?
They're "born in/ died in" years like on tombstones, but the seat belt is covering up the "died in side". Seat eats save lives
Load More Replies...Design has also changed over the last century, with new styles coming and going. For example, the iconic Empire State building still stands out today as an Art Deco skyscraper among a forest of glass buildings. This style itself was a reaction to Art Nouveau which had been so popular at the turn of the century. While less ornate, Art Deco tended to use expensive materials like gold, and furniture in the style would feature exotic leathers like sharkskin.
Drunk Driving Ad By Hyundai
Having had a successful go in rehab, fortunately, I had the experience of hearing from someone who had actually killed some one while driving drunk! She was there as the first part of her sentence and was horrified and suffering terribly. Nothing compared to her victim and victim’s family of course. It ruined so many lives! Don’t drink and drive.
This reminds me of the MPI (Manitoba) drunk driving commercial. Empty glasses are placed in front of the viewer one by one while you're looking at first hand view of someone driving along the street. The view gets murkier and then crash.
The drink is also lying when it tells you you're the most important being in the entire universe. Also the Dave Matthews Band doesn't rock
It's definitely lying when it tells you texting your ex is a good idea
Load More Replies...Canada used to have an ad that showed how each drink added impaired your vision.
this was done back in the day (can't remember by who, but it was an advert for drunk driving probably MADD) anyway, they keep adding a glass on the dashboard, and you heard the glass clank down. eventually after like 5 or 6 drinks you can't see anything and the car slams into the back of another car.
This is a take on a 1990's Canadian ad produced by M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) It's incredibly impactful, and easily found on YouTube
We used to have something similar on a TV ad. One glass plunked down. Then another. And another. All in a line. The view through the glasses got more and more blurry. I believe the only sound was the clink of each glass being put down. Simple. Effective.

Shark Fin "Wet Floor" Caution Sign
I once had to. I was stuck in a stall in a restaurant. the lock part was jammed, so seven-year-old me decided to crawl out, as I was close to hyperventaliating. I think it took a long time to get that lock unstuck.

Modern design principles are less constrained by form and materials, so the guiding philosophy focuses more on the user. Sometimes this is referred to as literally user-centric design, though some will also call it human-scale design. The core idea is to make everything intuitive at a glance, even if you have never seen an object before. Maybe you are familiar with the design principles of Don Norman or at least the Norman door. Imagine a door with no handle, just a metal plate. Naturally, since you know it’s a door, it must move to let a person pass through. So with no handle, your only option left is to push.

Load More Replies...Any Love For Packaging Here? Very Thoughtful Hardware Package Design
I used to work in a home for the developmentally disabled. They went to "work" on weekdays, to a rehab type program that taught life skills. Some of the more intelligent clients had actual jobs, where they packed hardware for appliances and furniture. They each had a paper with life-size drawings of each item. The client would cover each picture with the matching part (like a toddler's jigsaw puzzle). Once each picture had its part, the client bagged the pieces.
Much better than the plastic ones you get with most flat packs. I also still get stuff (esp appliances) surrounded with polystyrene. Insane!
I love this! No hunting through all the parts to find the one screw you need and it's all mounted on a piece of cardboard! Not a million plastic bags!
What I like most about this is that it makes Quality Control easier and more robust. An inspector or an automated system can “see” at a glance if all the parts are there, not masked up inside a plastic pouch.

Yeah. I went to go fill up my water bottle
Load More Replies...I used to fish there all the time. it was such a great place to hang out all day, and by "fish" I mean put the hook in the water and read my book in peace.
See the boat house in the back, right of the sign? Back in the early 1960s, I would go fishing at that lake with my Mom. They rented row boats for fishing at that boat house. In the fall, we would go up around the building and pick chokecherries to make jelly. In the winter, the boathouse would rent ice skates, but we would bring our own and skate until we were frozen. Off to the far right is a lovely set of hills on the edge of the golf course. We would sled down those hills after the snowpack got deep enough. One year, a bunch of 20-something guys were using huge inner tubes and they ran over my little brother. After that, we stayed on the smaller hills. The lake is still a four-season park where folks play and have fun. For being within an hour's drive from Denver, it has kept its personality.

Newly Constructed 'Danish Prison Cells' Are Designed Better Than My Apartment
You know you live in a prison state when accomodations that are beyond the means of a minimum wage laborer are considered a punishment elsewhere in the world.
Scandinavia actually makes a point of reintegrating its offenders back into society, and very successfully so
Load More Replies...It's been shown that 'nice' prisons like this have much lower reoffender rates than 'tough' prisons. People who are given an opportunity to get an education or training, and therefore a decent paying job and a secure home after release have little reason to return to a life of crime. Putting people back into the poverty they were in before they went to prison means they often reoffend due to necessity.
That‘s why most countries make rehabilitation their main goal, instead of just punishment.
Load More Replies...that's a prison cell?! it looks like a hotel room! i'm gonna need to commit some danish crimes...

Those individual gangs represent millions of gang members all fighting for territory, all fighting to protect their business interests. Our aging prison system cannot keep up... it just can't.

This Bar Has A Chilled Strip To Keep Your Drink Cold
Of course you just know some idiot is going to get their tongue stuck to it after a particularly ill-advised bar bet.
As a recovering alcoholic my beer never stayed in the glass long enough to get warm.
I’ve never been a sipper - I finish a drink pretty quick. And that gets me into trouble every time since the effects take a bit longer to catch up
Load More Replies...🤔 condensation on the glass drips down the glass and freezes at the base welding the glass to the bar causing the necessary use of force to unstick the glass, thus often spilling the fuller glass. The second problem is the build up of said spills creating uneven surface to put glasses/bottles on and they topple-over. They are a terrible idea.

Samsung’s Galaxy Flip Phone Advertisement At A Bus Stop In Belgium
Honest question for people in countries where English isn't the primary language: Do you get annoyed at all the English in advertisements in your country? As an English-speaker, I've appreciated the ubiquity of the language when I've traveled, but I'm wondering if it's irritating for the people who live there. (Where I live in California, all the ads are in English or Spanish; I don't mind the Spanish because it helps me practice my very basic language skills.)

Load More Replies...Good thing they spelled "Jeep"; if not, BMW drivers would be fighting for parking there.
I get what they are going for but, my first thought was that this is saying Jeep owners are jerks who think they can park wherever they feel like. Which I know isn't true (my neighbor owns a Jeep and she's a lovely person). It just kind of screams 'entitled' to me. I know that isn't what they were trying to convey but, I can see how people would look at this in very different ways.
Maybe the thing they are trying to convey is EXACTLY that if you own a Jeep you are entitled.
Load More Replies...This ad is humorous targeted to Jeep owners who tend to be very brand loyal. It highlights the articulation of the axels that Jeeps are well known for in the off-road community. These Room Numbers In My Hotel
I like it. It looks good. However, it excludes blind people and those with sight problems for no good reason other than 'it looks cool. Function and inclusivity must come first. There must be something physically there on a door to enable the blind/partially sighted person to be able to get to their room. If instead there were raised numbers, the person would be able to find their room without help.

Not sure what you mean. The flipped part of the k makes it look like it's spelling "IDEA" and the messaging encourages customers to look in the catalog, presumably to find decorating ideas. Featuring their iconic allen wrench just aligns the message with their self-assembly brand identity. What part of that is making fun of themselves or their customers?
Load More Replies...Yep. That's how I put my Ikea kits together. There's generally one little piece that isn't in there correctly.
@SabbeRubbish - Neither. It is a reminder that IKEA often provides poor instructions, customers too often finding that once "assembled," they have to partially disassemble and "go the other way." A reminder to me to not shop at IKEA (however it is spelled or mispronounced in the USA).

Except maybe Zelenskyy, dude gives awesome speeches. But overall I agree sooo much!
Load More Replies...as an aspie/autie, this has a different meaning for me. i often speak softly or am too nervous to speak, and when i am heard, it feels like others don't care.
Oh gosh. I hope you will encounter a person who listens and cares. They do exist.
Load More Replies...I like that! Good advice for everyone, not just for those certain individuals who are so enamored with their own voice, that they drown out anyone else trying to get a word in edgewise...

The wet weather takes a way from it a bit but still great execution and design
Oh fantastic. The wet weather really adds to it, anyone that knows the show sees how dreary the dragon scenes are.
Absolutely, especially for the old or visually impaired! Can't understand why anyone would downvote you for pointing that out, but take an upvote from me!

Business Card & Cockroach Trap
Headless roach and Headless roach's sister, beware of these traps
Sink Drain Design At The Minneapolis Airport
And it's also a horrible design with the faucet barely reaching the sink. Maybe so you can see the clever drain cover.
That photo was taken at a low angle so you can see the drain. The faucet and drain actually line up well. It's a cool design and the rest of the bathroom It's in has won a number of design and tech awards.
Load More Replies...I love when there's little designs like this and details in a large place. It shows that they really did care down the least little bit.
Logo For Lune Croissanterie - A Pâtisserie Specialising In Croissants
"croissant" stands for "lune croissante" in French, meaning waxing moon (because of the form). So the name of the shop is quite nice too. And then the moon rocket... Some visual jokes translate badly ;-) Just like English word plays (sound plays?) with K9 (canine, dog) or French ones with K7 (cassette).
It's not that complicated the bottom of the rocket is a croissant

In some Spanish speaking countries, croissants are called "media luna" or half moon, it makes sense.
This Bike Rack Shaped Like A Bike
Great fun aesthetic, but does halve the number of bikes that this space could accommodate. Cool design, NOT Good design imho!
Question - from one who hasn't even tried to ride a bike in half a century: how many bikes can this shape of bike rack actually acommodate? Asking for a mere acquaintance...
Load More Replies...There is one of those near my pharmacy shaped like a Penny-Farthing bicycle.
Substation, Detail Of Cornice, Hans Heinrich Müller
Actually it's kinda cool. Where I live it would be some trashy vinyl mansard.

Minimal Clock Design
This clock was recently posted on here as an example of bad design. But I really like it too
Load More Replies...Which hand is the minute and which hand is the hour? This is a terrible design if you can't read the time!
The thinner one shows usually the minutes. But I remember this exact clock being in a post about bad design...
Load More Replies...This is going to make me sound wacko, but I've always wondered if there is a recognized phobia of clock-ticking. I can't be around any clocks I can hear, I have this irrational worry that they'll send my heart beat into a wild arrhythmia and I'll die. I've only ever confessed this to my husband.
Chronomentrophobia maybe? The tick tock sounds of a clock often cause irritation to a chronomentrophobe. They have increased sensitivity to such sounds. People with chronomentrophobia often feel their lives are controlled by clocks. Or it might come under misophonia. I very much dislike ticking - causes very disrupted sleep to have a ticking clock in the bedroom.
Load More Replies...This is a fussy, pretentious design. A truly minimal design consist entirely of 2 hands and nothing more, not even a dot at noon.
Deadpool Knife Caddy
I almost bought this off of Amazon a few years back. It's sooo freeking awesome!
KV Bjørnøya, The Newest Vessel Being Built For The Norwegian Coast Guard
Where's the bar code? I thought all their ships had to have bar codes so they could... Scandinavian. I'm sorry. I'll show myself out.
you know they started putting bar codes on ships in Norway. So they can...Scan the Navy in.

Saw This Soft Serve Machine When I Was Visiting Vancouver
Electro Freeze is the Imperial of soft serve machines, to be sure! (Btw, if anyone is wondering, I use Imperial as the Gold Standard instead of Cadillac, because...... well, they were way better :-)
S'all Good, Man
Did you pandas see the Breaking Bad Super Bowl commercial ?? Freakin Awesome !!
Aluminum Can Of Gin From Italy. Can't Spell Engine Oil Without Gin!
Holy c**p! First you pour the can...oops 😬 then a can "gets"poured into your gas tank. What??!!
I refuse to drink alcohol, but I still feel a little anxiety from this image. I don’t know what will happen if you drink engine oil, but one mistake of drinking the wrong may lead to hospitalization and/or death.
I love ‘em all! They’re smart and very satisfying. It’s also a good balancer for all the ‘bad design’ posts. XD
Hey, they've got to get it right *sometimes*, don't they??

We're talking about people with the average IQ of 50. None of them have the mental capacity of a teenager, much less than an adult. They may not be very good at thinking, but they have the same feelings, the same needs as the rest of us.
My supermarket used to hire a young man with Down's to work as a bagger. He did a great job . He took pride in his work, and people would get in his line just to say hi.
