Taste is subjective, and if you still doubt it, just talk to people about whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza. Straight off the bat, you will hear contradictory answers and see just how eager folks are to defend them.

A few weeks ago, Reddit user 1060west-addison made a post on the platform, saying "What is the most controversial food opinion you have?" And it instantly blew up.

As of today, the post has over 20,000 comments, many of which have ignited heated discussions. From cupcakes to beets, continue scrolling to see what things are tearing everyone apart.

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart Only vaguely a food opinion, but, there’s no such thing as a “special occasion” food. Like, cakes are often associated with parties. But I’m a grown man and if I want cake because it’s Wednesday I’m gonna go get myself a Wednesday cake.

Well, think I already replied this before... some people have the nerve to actually call Hellman's mayo. Absolutely no taste ! Belgian mayo is the ticket. Higher on acidity, and consistency as if it came out of a concrete mixer. By the way, don't get me started on the Dutch with their sweet 'frietsaus' (fries-sauce) ;-)

Best fries I had ever had was in Belgium. We were in Brussels and we were walking around and a friend said "let's get some fries". Walked up to a restaurant that had a open Dutch door and ordered a cone of fries. Ohmygawd, they were so good and they came with ketchup mixed with mayo. Ever since, that has been my go to dressing for double friend fries.

Which is actually Marie Rose Sauce (if you add the extra ingredients listed) and popularised in the 1960s (by the British chef F***y Craddock) or even Cocktail Sauce which predates the Marie Rose sauce. Not quite the same as Thousand Island, that has a different spin. There is also the Argentinian Salsa Golf, which is earlier than all I believe (about 100 years ago). Interestingly, many countries have been mixing these things together for decades.

Rosie Hamilton

It's all very subjective, isn't it? I can't agree with you about mayo on eggs. Eggs go with Hollandaise sauce and are the making of the dishes Eggs Benedict, Eggs Royale or Florentine (bacon, salmon or spinach variants of the same dish). Mayo, for me, is not enough of a flavour on it's own to work with an egg, another mild flavour. It needs the contrast. Ketchup is quite an overpowering flavour in comparison and doesn't actually enhance like a condiment should. That said, people do love the flavour of ketchup! So that's what they're enjoying and the chip is a carrier in that instance. Fair enough. I think that is why the blend of mayo and ketchup works, it tones down the ketchup. Salt and malt vinegar still allows the flavour of the fried potato to come through so that's why that's my preference. Dipping a chip in egg yolk, oh yes yum!

May be something they do in Utah but a base of ketchup and mayo is common in many countries, some dating back a century. Which at least means it's a popular flavour combo. Just has a lot of different names. In the UK it's Marie Rose sauce - but has a couple of extra ingredients to give it some punch.

Ketchup is bland and boring. Mayo is much better - if you can, get some Dutch joppie- or fritessaus - but when I make fries I usually spice them with more than half a dozen herbs and spices and they don't need anything to go along anymore at all. Sometimes I go with some latin salsa (whatever they sell as salsa here) or with a self made "Mexican" salsa verde (I have to use replacements, because you don't get tomatillos here but my Mexican lady rated it as tasting just like home :D).

KETCHUP is bland? It's got a really strong flavour. What's the matter with your taste buds? Or the brand of ketchup you've had. You may not like it but there is no way by any definition of the word that bland can apply to ketchup.

Canned fish is awesome! Not just sardines and anchovies but you can get all kinds of fish in cans, even stuff like clams and even squid! And if you prefer food without too many additives or processing, look at the back of the can, it typically says something like "ingredients: fish, salt, some sort of oil (veg or sunflower or something) and with some, the processing is so minimal the fish is just cooked in the can after sealing during the pasturization process.

Try kipper snacks, they kinda have a smokey bacon taste. Fantastic treat/snack

Kippers are amazing. Add a little butter and Mmmmm. Also, canned mackeral fillets in tomato sauce are perfect on toast. It doesn't sound good, but it is extremely good.

I don’t enjoy eating 3 times a day, it’s a chore.

Then don’t. Follow what your body says, not the arbitrary rules others impose on you. As long as you’re well nourished and healthy, who TF cares if you only eat once a day?

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart I love to eat lemons the way that most people eat oranges. People act like that’s crazy, but it’s normal to eat citrus and normal to enjoy sour candy, so why not also eat a sour citrus?

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart I legitimately think Diet Coke has a better flavor than regular.

I don't drink the diet versions of any other drinks, but for whatever reason I just think Diet Coke has a better taste!

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart Chicken and fries require absolutely no sauce/ ketchup, if the chicken is juicy enough and the fries are cooked well, why add stuff to take the taste away? So pointless

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart East Asian noodles are way superior to Italian pasta. Both in the available variety and overall taste/texture. Most Italian pasta is the same thing cut into different shapes.

Approximately .5 ml of peppermint extract added to the mix for a pumpkin pie makes it next level delicious. The reason I consider this controversial is because no matter how many pies get consumed at Thanksgiving dinner with compliments, nobody else does this and I'm pretty sure people don't believe me.

I super hate cold pizza. You lose the flavor profile of the sauce and cheese. I need it piping hot

30 Of The Hottest Food Takes That Are Tearing People Apart Hummus is absolute garbage. The different "flavors" are b.s., they all taste the same. Like a dirty armpit.
