23-year-old conjoined twin sisters Lupita and Carmen Andrade asked people to stop using them as a reference when asking questions about Abby and Brittany Hensel, which comes as a result of the Hensel sisters making headlines with Abby’s recent marriage announcement.

Taking to their TikTok page on March 29, Lupita and Carmen shared a video in response to a separate TikToker who was answering questions about the Hensel twins, using the Andrade twins as a reference.

Highlights
  • Conjoined twins Lupita and Carmen Andrade requested not to be compared to Abby and Brittany Hensel.
  • Lupita and Carmen highlighted differences in living conditions and medical aspects compared to the Hensels.
  • The Andrade twins shared their personal experiences, including daily life and medical details, in an FAQs video.

Lupita and Carmen, who have previously replied to the Internet’s burning questions regarding their lives as conjoined twins, did not approve of the use of their own experiences to explain Abby and Brittany’s way of living and medical conditions.

“We share a bloodstream, they may not,” Carmen exclaimed, as one of many examples to show that they should not be quoted to explain the Hensel twins’ different lives.

Lupita and Carmen, conjoined twin sisters, urged people to refrain from using them as a reference for questions about Abby and Brittany Hensel

“Those references of those videos are for us, we’re only speaking about ourselves, nobody else,” Carmen emphasized.

Lupita and Carmen moved to the United States from Mexico when they were babies and have since become influencers, sharing their lives on social media.

According to an interview for Today, published last year, Carmen is in college studying to be a veterinary nurse, while Lupita hopes to work in the same field as a technician.

In a frequently asked questions video shared on their TikTok page in 2022, Lupita and Carmen clarified that they both had two separate brains and, therefore, one could be awake while the other sister could be asleep.

They went on to reveal that in the case of the death of one of them, the other one would likely die shortly after due to sepsis setting in their shared body.

The sisters said they could not control each other’s limbs or “halves,” and they had no idea what would happen if one of them were to commit a crime and go to jail.

In the video, which was subsequently used by another TikToker as the main reference to answer questions about Abby and Brittany, Carmen said that she was in control of the right foot and could, therefore, drive.

“We cannot read each other’s minds,” the sisters humorously said.

They further explained that they shared one reproductive system but that Carmen had one detached uterus.

Moreover, as a result of the shared reproductive system, they both felt the same pain while enduring endometriosis, a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing extreme discomfort.

Carmen went on to ask viewers to “do the math” about weird and inappropriate questions about their sex lives that they have been often subjected to on social media.

The sisters continued to list the uniqueness of their anatomy, saying they live with two different stomachs connected to one digestive system, which means they feel full at two different rates.

Additionally, they said they have two separate hearts, two separate lungs, one kidney each, and one arm and leg each, meaning they had to do physical therapy to learn how to walk.

Due to their shared bloodstream, the twins revealed that if one of them drank alcohol, both of them could feel the effect and, therefore, not be sober.

Lupita and Carmen said they couldn’t have children and did not want to have any children anyway, adding that Carmen has a boyfriend, while Lupita, who identifies as asexual, does not want to date anyone.

Asexual is a term used to describe someone who does not experience sexual attraction toward individuals of any gender.

Just like the Andrade sisters, Abby and Brittany are dicephalus-conjoined twins, a rare form of partial twinning, with two heads side by side on one torso.

The Hensel twins have become internet sensations in recent days, particularly following Abby’s secret wedding to Josh Bowling.

The 34-year-old Minnesota twins work as fifth-grade teachers in their home state. They first shared their story in 1996 on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

However, it was on the TLC reality show “Abby & Brittany” that the public got to know more details about their daily lives.

I have zero questions about anything physical, but I wonder about their emotional lives and how it feels to be conjoined and always have to consider the other person in basically every decision you make. That must take incredible emotional strength.

Well, you are looking at that from your position, being a "standard" person like majority of us. However, her and her sister always been like that, and it is normal for them thinking and living with always taking each other into the consideration. People always look/judge (call it whatever you like) other from that own position/ perspective -this is just how we are wired. Perhaps those girls do not understand us?

I have great admiration for these sisters, just like for Abby and Brittany. I must be a hard life to never be separate from your sister. And I think that all questions about their sex lives are beyond any boundaries of acceptability. They do what they have to do. The sister that complies with the other sister is a hero in these cases. I anyone wants to question sexuality, go have a look at porn movies or whatever, but give these sisters all your love and respect, because it is far from easy how they have to live their lives.

It's interesting to think about. As with any person or group of people: It's good to expand your understanding of other humans, in an empathy and accessibility sense, but of course there are questions that are inappropriate and you've just gotta move on. I was telling my husband about how Carmen & Lupita had to have physical therapy to learn how to walk, and it must have been hard but likely they barely have to think about it now. My husband said it was weird and uncomfortable to think about because it's not a hypothetical, they are real people. But if we tuck away the experiences of people with differences to us, if we don't think about it, then we fail to appreciate their difficulties and therefore fail to accommodate their needs. Wheelchairs, colour blindness, sensory overload, it's natural to wonder about these things and it's *good* to wonder about these things. But yeah, if you wouldn't want a stranger asking you a question then don't ask that question of a stranger.
