Some of that stuff is in the exam rooms in the US also, but nothing potentially harmful like meds or needles. The nurses/doctors have their own space (with locks) for those things and bring them into the room as needed.

From a mother's perspective, this is a no win situation. My teenager would be upset with me for interrupting her nap. She also would angrily say "why didn't you tell me?!" if I didn't disturb her. This has happened many times in my house.

My mother had an eye stroke. So instead of the brain being blocked her optic nerve was. The damage was confined to her eye. Before that happened I had no idea there was something other than a 'regular brain' stroke.

What's weird to me is that this is coming back around. My mother taught me this way way back in early 80's before I was a teenager. Always wear cotton underwear and use only unscented, undyed toilette paper. I guess teaching that skipped some decades. Also, I thought they took scented & colored tp off the market for this very reason (in the US at least) has that changed back too?

I absolutely agree that people have to take responsibility for their actions. Unfortunately some mentally ill people either don't recognise their own poor behaviour or go undiagnosed and therefore don't get treatment. My own parent has the same illness I do and was abusive in every way possible. Thing is, they were undiagnosed and an addict. Now that I'm an adult whose own disorder is stable I understand them better and why they did what they did, BUT in no way do I think it's an excuse. If I could choose not to abuse my own children and see a Dr and get treatment, they could have too.
