I should explain further. When you're making a poster or whatnot on a computer, you might want to add some pictures in that you find on the internet. You pick out nice backgrounds, etc, and you need to drop in a picture, say, of Darth Vader. The problem is that the picture of Darth Vader will be a square shape with its own background, not a cut-out picture of him. So now you have a square blob in your poster design instead of the nice, shaped cut-out that you needed. This is where transparent backgrounds come in, because it might seem like it's a square blob, but when you add it in, the square part disappears, and it's just the Darth Vader shaped figure that you need. Does this make sense?
