There's a horse property near me, and one of their paddocks only ever has 1 horse, 1 mule and 1 steer in it, in spite of them having many animals. Apparently the other horses are too stupid to be in that paddock, so the smart animals have it all to themselves.

The city doesn't have the authority to establish a mental hospital and civilly commit people, only the state does.

These buildings have an interesting story. They are all constructed in the same manner, but the stock market crash of 1929 left the developer without enough funds to complete the brick 'skirts' around the steel support structure that the other buildings have, so they were just left open. These buildings are not of masonry construction, and simply have a brick veneer over a steel skeleton.

Large buildings tend to be built atop friction piles when bedrock is not nearby. If the piles are properly engineered for the substrate, they can be just as sturdy as bedrock.

That is not a Nuclear power plant. Cooling towers are used in many different types of power stations that use steam turbines. The giveaway here is the number of actual chimneys, aka smoke stacks, so it's either coal, oil or gas powered.

Fossil fuels is not the problem, not for a surprisingly long time. Fracking only makes it cheaper to get. The problem is the CO2. But I guess since a lot of people don't believe in climate change telling them we have to switch to renewable energy sources because we're running out is an acceptable lie.

When I looked into fed disability, I learned I didn't qual because you must have less than $2k in "assets" (I have very small 401k). Given current rent, pretty much anyone who saves up for monthly rent is disqualified. Even if I did qualify, my benefit would have been less than $300/mo.

Kowloon Walled City was a fascinating place. A population of 1.3MILLION per square Kilometer. It was a lawless slum that must have been absolute hell to live in. the whole place was established as part of the same treaty that Established Hong Kong as a British protectorate. Short version, Kowloon was a weird loophole that neither side owned but it became a major conduit to move goods in and out of Communist China for about 50 years.
