I remember this vividly - 35 years later. I was a Junior in high school (Class of 1988) about 40 miles from where Wendy disappeared. Every parent of a teenage girl sat us down and gave us the 'stranger danger' talk. We didn't go anywhere alone for months. We were all scared shiteless. Someone was eventually arrested, but with no 'real evidence', he was released.
