Unless you want to go to University or take a college course, your grades will not matter after later in life. Now, passing High School does make things a lot easier, but lately I've notice Grade 12 completion is not much better than no diploma. Even then, who's going to really know unless they look at your transcripts. I have yet had an employer ask to see my transcripts and proof of graduation.

How old is that post? I agree with everyone saying she's a millennial because I am and she's only 2 years older than me. Xennial, at the least. And her daughter is definitely Gen Z. Same age as mine. But this whole issue has nothing to do with generational values. This is cult-like c**p or perhaps some weird cultural thing that only exists in their family. This is all the OP's fault. She had more kids. She can raise them or give them up to loving homes, that actually want them.

I agree. It's not like the women was trying to be intrusive and interfere. When I get this way it's because I feel like if I don't help out, if I tag along with everyone, I think they will think I'm mooching or taking advantage of them, and being a nuisance. There's definitely a communication break down. OP can't talk to this women, herself. She has to go on Reddit and complain to strangers and get their theories so she can feel like she's not a jerk. I feel it's polarizing but not really going in her favour.

You're overreaching a tad. (I say that with Canadian sarcasm.) How am I "defaulting". If they were to split the bill, he would being paying for his share of the bill. It's not a typical question when meeting new people where I am. It's a question asked when you want to size up someone and judge their worthiness of having your company. I can see the question being asked on a date, but OP seemed to have known he was unemployed. Although he could have admitted that for an answer at some point. We don't know a lot about him. Just a quick snippet of their date. Not once did I speculate OP is a gold digger. If you read my comment through, you would have read that I do see OP's concerns. He needs to work on himself and get through his unemployment situation.

I agree, it can go both ways. I would've liked to know how the OP responded more. We do know it's important for her to make sure she is with a self-reliant, self-sustaining man, and that is, of course, reasonable. He sounds highly insecure with himself in his situation, either way. He could have had some bad moments with being asked that question on dates. We don't have any other information regarding how long he's been unemployed, how many women he's met and how they have asked the question and responded. Did he ask OP what she does for a living? Assuming he knows she works, the type of job she has and ballpark what her income bracket is. Obviously, she can take care of herself and if she were looking for money she wouldn't be on a date with someone unemployed. I'm not saying she's in the wrong, at all. I know she's just looking out for herself.

It's considered rude depending on how it's asked where I'm from. It's not a usual question, and when it is asked it is teeming with scrutiny. We don't have any other details of the conversation prior to the question. No one mentioned "gold digger", which is defined as someone who is looking for someone very rich, and not someone who works for average pay, regardless of employment. I simply meant he could have had bad experiences, employed or unemployed, when asked what he does for a living. I also stated that I do see where the OP is coming from, too, and that I do understand she is just looking out for herself.

Where I'm from, if you're on welfare it's instant social suicide to admit, unless you're talking to people in similar situations or they know you very well. Even the type of job is up for scrutiny. More than a few times the question has been asked to me by people I just met. You get to know their intentions for asking pretty quickly, and the least judgmental people don't bother asking so soon after meeting you. It would come up naturally in a conversation, but not point blank. If someone has had enough bad experiences with the question, it's going to make them be defensive whenever asked what they do and how much they make. Actually, asking about someone's income is taboo, too. A lot of people get in between jobs. We all gotta start somewhere. Doesn't mean he's undeserving to find love. But I can understand where the OP is coming from because she's just watching out for herself. Perhaps she has been in a relationship where she was expected to work and support a lazy man.

Hey StangeOne, I’d love to know more about your perspective “knowing where they are both coming from” - cos I can’t reasonable rational from the guy at all. I had a friend who was a recovering alcoholic (and tbh she wasn’t doing great at “recovering” at this point) and was living off a restitution payment and welfare. She was getting really annoyed at people asking “what do you do?” and concluded everyone was materialistic and “judging” her. I tried to explain, no, they are making conversation, trying to get to know you and wondering how you spend your day. But, obviously, she was carrying her own insecurities when being confronted with the question and that’s what coloured her reaction.

I can see where they're both coming from. But if he's unemployed, he should be focusing on getting his s**t together and using his savings for surviving, before pursuing a relationship, or dating. In fact, someone unemployed I would be very suspicious how he's earning money to pay for a date. Unless she's paying.

Geezus. So glad you pulled through all that. Yeah, that's the worst. There's supposed to be a 4 day grace period. So, if you're late you can ring them to say if you need a couple more days. I've had to do that a few times in the decade I've lived here. The worst they do is send a notice that you're late, regardless if a payment date is set up. But to evict someone takes a lot of steps, as it has to be approved by the tenancy board. I believe what you got was an illegal eviction notice, because the timing is too soon. These are the types who have eviction notices ready at hand. At one slum apartment I lived in, the caretaker would go around to each suite, right on the morning of the 1st, demanding rent and if you didn't have it right then and there, she handed you an eviction notice. She wasn't the caretaker for long, at least. Bunch of power tripping goons. You are right, though, they should be checking on their tenants to see if they're okay.

I'm always struggling with that. I find it best to not say anything, just nod and go about my business. The double standards I can't take. But because I have to watch what I say, the aggression comes out erratic and anxious. The only thing I didn't like with kitchen work, thinking back, was that I had to prove I was allergic to high acidic foods, like canned tomatoes. At least the Chef took it seriously when I showed him the hives, redness and swelling after 15 seconds with my hand in the can. Not sure why he demanded I mash up the tomatoes with my bare hands in the first place. Also the lack of safety. Making an unpaid teen, on a school led work program use the meat slicer with just a moment of instruction on where not to put your hands, and only having holey oven mitts available. This was in '99, too. I'm sure industry standards have gotten tighter since then.

But tbf, that's not coming from the waitstaff. That's just them reiterating what was said by the customers. They're the ones having to deal with the b******t requests and complaints. The waitstaff tell you so they can go back the customers to remind them how unreasonable they are being to everyone working at the restaurant.

But what if your gums don't normally bleed when your flossing and brushing, eh? The last dentist actually taught me how to properly brush, and it's not trying to cut into your gums. You trace the gum line and around your teeth. This still cleans the gums without causing pain and bleeding. She was also the only dentist that reassured me my teeth are fine and teach me anything without lecturing.

My dad is a retired officer. He has PTSD and prefers to be to himself or doing something out in the country. Rarely goes into the city for much, unless there's something he needs. He absolutely hates rap music, has a negative view of any neighbourhood in the city that isn't affluent, regardless if it's not really a bad area to the general public, and he is paranoid af with new people. He has used his badge to visit me in the hospital after visiting hours (thanks, dad, the nurses thought I was a criminal with a new baby, and treated me so.), got access to my report card at school behind my mom's back (so she says), runs every boyfriend's name through the police system and checks out his friends, too, and would get his buddies to cruise by my house about every week or so, or make b******t visits that end up being "misidentification". This is what happens when your estranged dad is a cop.

Agreed. I almost died due to diverticulitis in my late 20s and spent 3 months in hospital. After 4 years of never being late on rent I couldn't get anyone to take a cheque to my apartment manager for me so it was two days late. When my mom was able to drop off my payment she stopped by my place to grab me some things and there was an eviction notice taped to ky door. 48 hours after 4 years of timely payments and they didn't even have the decency to call me and check what was up they just immediately tried to evict me. Finally got surgery, got released from hospital a week later, and as soon as I was healthy enough to move I was outta that slum. Took a while tho since I was down to 120lbs which was skin and bone for me.

For people saying spay or neuter, I had a cat neutered and he still was able to spray and get horny. Apparently getting fixed isn't always 100% effective if extra ovarian tissue is still present in a female cat's abdomen. Medications with hormones, like creams, that cats can ingest if licked can have an effect in an increase of estrogen and progestogen. And sometimes it's just a behavioural thing that's misinterpreted as sexual.

Most people likely do know there's a difference. But unless there's a need to know, like a pediatrician or developmental specialist, people are not following up on your kid's development. Also, not every kid meets the same developmental milestones as other kids. You could have a 1 year old (sorry, 12 month old) not able to walk yet, and another 12 month old already running. Or a 14 month old catching and throwing a ball, but an 18 month old can throw but not able to catch a ball yet. If anything it would lead up to more questions about their development. Possible scrutiny and presumptions about disabilities and delays, and accusations about neglect. It can really snowball from there. When people ask about a kid's age, use whatever metrics you like, but a vague answer is suffice.
