Not trying to call you out here but I have to say this is a comment I see a lot by people who don't live near any kind of weather or bad neighborhoods. It's like when someone talks about being stressed out and someone responds with 'just take a vacation at your summer home' or 'just go to a spa' as if everyone can afford that. The average snowfall where I live is like 2 feet and winter lasts like 7-8 months a damn year. It's freezing cold a whole lot. Spring is anything above 40 degrees. It's considered summer is if the sun is shining. There's no riding a bike. Even if it's not snowing, it's raining. And even if I did live in a warmer climate, I'm not sure if I'd want a 7 year old kid riding a bike by herself to and from school where she could be kidnapped or the bike could be stolen.

The little 'smile for the cameras' is so infuriating I'd like to have a lawyer remind them that if any student under 18 takes off their clothes or is seen in any way in a state of undress, then they are technically producing child pornography, which is why cameras in the bathroom are generally not allowed in any public place. And they generally aren't allowed in private places either, unless you get consent from the person using the bathroom.

Parking at universities is the biggest scam of all time. You have way more students than can possibly fit in your school and you also don't have enough parking spaces for them. I went to a school that was set way into the woods basically. The driveway was like a mile long by itself and then the parking lots were in a circle around the property. The buildings were then deep set another 1/2 mile from there. Some buildings were way more popular than others. So you either had to park in a lot that was nowhere near the building you needed to go to, get there 2 hours early and enjoy your hike with a bookbag full of heavy books. Or you parked outside of the lines. The only tickets I've ever gotten were in college. And the campus police were basically only there to write tickets for parking as a revenue stream for the school. They almost never came out for any real crimes. My car got broken into and they didn't call the police but I did get a ticket for parking outside of the lines.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why she does it. But I wonder why people don't just say...no. I'm not buying this stuff. Go to the principle and state you can't correct any more tests because you have no pens. I don't know. My mom worked for a restaurant for years and she used to go to walmart to buy containers and basic things because the company (major company. Not broke) was just fine allowing her to keep paying for them. They took advantage of that for years. Her answer was always that she didn't want the fight with them and she also didn't want the hassle of not having the containers in case health inspectors or someone came by. Even though it's not her fault, they'd find some way to blame her for not ordering them (but the reason she didn't is because they were so expensive. They'd take a huge part of the budget for no reason. 1 pack of pens through their food supplier was 10 dollars). But if you don't just stop and say no more than they're never going to stop you.

They're systems are supposed to stop this from happening based on the class size/seat allowance. But it happens when professors manually add a student to the class because it's a prereq that someone needs to be able to graduate. Pre-Reqs are ridiculous classes that are usually high-school type classes that have nothing to do with your major that you're required to pay for to get a 'well-rounded' education (so they can justify charging you more money). They get booked up really fast because almost all the majors require them. I tried for 3 years to get into this one stupid Math class and eventually had to beg the professor to let me in because otherwise they were going to be short 3 credits and couldn't graduate. And it was because my stupid advisor kept missing our meetings to schedule my classes in a timely manner. I ended up having to make a complaint to the dean about it and they eventually let me in but i had to sit on the floor for like 4 days before i got a chair.

Or I could just sue you for not letting me use the bathroom-which is a personal, human right-and for giving me a bladder infection. Look, I get that it's disruptive to have people getting up and leaving class. And if you're over a certain age, you shouldn't need a bathroom break every 5 minutes. When you start working your boss is gonna fire you if you're going to the bathroom for 10 minutes at a time every half hour. That's work avoidance. But how about just talking to them about this issue like human beings? Or simply have a 'no coming back' policy. One of my professors got so tired of the up and down of people walking around while he was trying to lecture that he just said that if you need to leave, you aren't allowed back in the room. It's the same policy he has for exams. If you leave the room during an exam, unless you explain it's an emergency and schedule a makeup, then you get graded on what you completed but you can't come back in. It solved the problem.

Ugh I had a teacher that had a whole list of things you'd get deductions for that had nothing to do with the actual homework. Staples had to be straight. And if for whatever reason they were even a little crooked, you had to reprint it and try again because there were to be no duplicate holes in that space. You name had to be written on the right side of the paper only and only on the top line. There had to be no markings on the pages and no wrinkles of any kind. Misspellings of any kind were an automatic 0. She was a nutcase.

I'm guessing it's to keep them from maybe going into this particular bathroom. It's actually illegal otherwise and the school can't remain open if there isn't one operating bathroom. If the plumbing stopped working for whatever reason, they'd be required to provide port-a-potties or send them home.

I understand the budget for school lunches is ridiculous and they're doing the best they can. But even with bulk pasta, they could get rid of the fries and ketchup, and the cheese sauce that's been sitting in a pan and congealing for hours. They could make a chilli-style hamburger casserole that would be more fulfilling. Even with crappy ingredients. Or soup. Soup is something that is generally cheap to make and more satisfying than this and it can be made in bulk. Commercial bags of frozen veggies, some basic b!tch chicken parts and chicken bullion in water goes a long way. And soup actually tastes better the longer it sits. I'd rather eat soup every day than eat this horrifying lump of crud.

I'm wondering what it is that they think is going to happen that is so bad? Do you think a 14 yr old is going to see a skinned human and they're going to use it as spank bait? As if there's nothing better to use? They're perfect angels until they see this and it turns them into degenerates? Or...wait. Are you scared they'll understand their bodies a bit more? And they'll realize the religious cr@p, the 'virtue' cr@p pushed on girls, and the lies about morality and your body that you push on them...that maybe you're trying to keep them dumb and more easily controlled? Teach your boys they're animals and wrong and they can't control themselves so we have to hide it from them? I guess we should be grateful they're even allowed to read a science book this day and age. But I'm guessing these books have sections on having Purity Ball's and how the cl!t doesn't actually exist.

They aren't getting overpaid. Coaches/players get paid a percentage of what THEY help bring in. Without that coach, the players might not play as well. Without that player being as good as he is, taking the physical risks they take, suddenly there could be a HUGE drop in merchandising, ticket sales, advertising, etc. If they were only being paid, say, 200K a year, that means that the corporation that owns them is getting the bulk of that money on the backs of their hard work- which trust me they already do. So they should make a good percentage of that revenue. You can have the broader conversation as to why entertainment is such a huge revenue stream, and how unfair it is that the doctor who saves your life doesn't make the same. They should and we should be subsidizing that. But that isn't the fault of the football player, news anchor or actor- who all make ridiculous amounts.

Everything needs an app. Especially physical devices. I don't want your cheap buggy app to use my thermostat, scale, battery, lock, or light bulb. Ship one if you want, but devices should conform to standards-based, documented protocols so I can control them however I want. I also don't want to install an app just to do something that works just fine on a website. Also requiring Internet connectivity is cr*ppy design. I don't want basic functionality depending on your servers being up (and requiring accounts and giving you unknown data). My whatever should not stop working because you decided to stop spending money on the servers. This is bad with software but egregious with hardware and unacceptable with household devices (my water heater should never depend on outside servers). I've been in tech a long time. While greed and control and access to sellable data drives lots of things, there is also an attitude surviving from the 90s and 00s that the lifespan of anything is a few years. This attitude infects product design even in fields where lifespans are decades and replacement costs are high as we add compute to everything (which can be a great thing). USB was successful not because it had one (ish) plug, but because it standardized the protocols devices used. All mice speak one protocol, so anything that knows it (hci class) can handle any mouse. Zwave and ZigBee tried to do this for household stuff, but instead we got vendor proprietary, Internet connected, phone-home, WiFi devices. Rant done.
