Agree with this 100%. Bob makes my teeth hurt and my toes curl. And although Leo is a bit of an uptight obsessive who seeks to control his family at an unnatural level, that's no excuse for Bob busting in on a family vacation and hijacking Leo's family and career.

I didn't know about the animal cruelty, but if that's true then it just solidifies my opinion of her. Saw her live once. We were very excited because we heard she put on a helluva live show (and seeing videos of her concerts confirmed that) but apparently we caught her on a bad night. She didn't take the stage until over 2 hours after the start time. Apparently she has no regard for people who have babysitters or who would have missed the last train home. When she finally came on her performance was average at best, she really seemed like she didn't want to be there, and in between songs treated us to a rambling stream-of-consciousness about losing custody of her son. LIke - jeez, we did not pay a ridiculous amount of money to listen to your problems. Worst. Concert. Ever.

You sound exactly like me and my husband. We married very young, and we weren't ready to be parents. Everyone said "you'll change your mind" and I was quite prepared to believe that we would. We promised each other we would not, however, have kids until we were both ready and both WANTED kids. We've checked in with each other often to make sure we're on the same page, and we always have been. Nope. Don't want 'em. Like our life just the way it is. Check again? Actually, the older we get, the less parental we feel. Window closing? Now or never? Totally fine with the never. We're in our 50s now and have not regretted it for an instant.

I liked both. Spielberg was right to leave out the mafia and affair subplots for the movie and focus on Brody vs. Bruce, but I really liked the book. Yes, the characters are unlikeable but that's kinda what I like about them. I've read the book many times. I like the description of small-town-by-the-sea and what it has to do to survive. I like Ellen's backstory and how her relationship with Brody evolves. Quint was easily the most unlikeable character so I liked that he got what he deserved. The ending was a bit too similar to Moby D**k though - the movie ending was definitely better.

My cousin was a bicycle courier in NYC at that time. He delivered packages to one particular company in the WTC so often they got to know each other. That morning, he ran into one of them on the ground floor. She said "Is that for me? I'll take it now, save you a trip up top." She signed for it and off he went. If he had taken the package to the office, he would have been up there or in the elevator when the first plane hit.

I do this. I know the shelf-stackers and the produce guy and the checkout staff and the very tall manager who - I am convinced - covertly follows my short-a** around and pops up just when I need something off the top shelf, by name. This is because I'm the only customer stalking the aisles so they have time to chat. They always have a wine box ready for my bottled goods and they are all great fun to talk to. The ONLY problem with going that early is that sometimes - mostly in the fresh produce and meat sections - they haven't got much out yet. And there's nothing in the deli, because they haven't roasted the chickens or sliced the beef or made the salads yet. Other than that, this is a great time of day to shop, even if it doesn't feel like it when the alarm goes off.

Dogs gotta walk. Rain, hail, shine. Sometimes it's the last thing I feel like doing but I always, 100% of the time, feel better after doing it. James Herriot once said "anyone who has walked a dog knows the abiding satisfaction that comes from giving pleasure to a loved pet" and I don't know if truer words have ever been spoken. But aside from the mental health benefits, the physical ones are obvious too. So dog or no dog, get outside. Get some exercise. Every single day.

I was like this until I got dogs. If you're not in a situation where you can have a dog yourself, there are many charities that you can volunteer for to walk dogs for elderly/housebound people. IN UK main one is Cinnamon Trust. You get to hang out with a dog and see their joy in the outside world and it really helps. From someone with Major Depressive Disorder and Complex PTSD. Before I started volunteering I would stay in my house and not talk to anyone for at least a week at a time. Now I have 3 rescue pups of my own. Knowing you're doing at least one useful thing in the world makes you feel a bit better about yourself too.
