I hate to say it but I've done similar. Was shopping at a department store and trying to find someone to help. Spotted someone in high-vis and asked them. About 5 seconds in, my brain caught up and I was like "They don't wear high-vis here, what are you doing?" I said sorry and she laughed it off.

My bffs mom was given a small plant by her bestie while said bestie was dying of breast cancer. Mom took care of it for years, including moving. Took a decade until Mom realized it was a fake plant. LOL, bestie got a good heaven laugh from that one. EDIT: mom does not have a green thumb and dead bestie for sure did it as a joke.
