I have a friend in my troop with a great British accent, she was showing it off to my mom and someone came out of the store, thought she was British and bought cookies just because they thought they were buying from someone from Britain. I was with my troop going down a street, and we stopped to knock on the door of this cute little blue house. We waited for a while, wondering if the person was home. Eventually a woman came to the door. I recited my script, you know, the “hello ma’am would you like to buy some Girl Scout cookies we have Samoas and thin mints and lots of other ones and they don’t cost too much money and they’re good and it would be nice if you bought them” thing, but soon another woman rushed to the door and told me to stop for a moment. She turned to the first woman, who hadn’t really been responsive while I was talking (I felt bad for thinking that later, because of what happened next). The second woman asked me what I wanted, and I told her we were here to sell Girl Scout cookies. She started making hand motions silently to the first woman, who watched her and then looked at me. I can’t remember if she bought cookies or not, but I do remember being super embarrassed when I realized she was deaf and I had been rambling on and on to her that whole time.
